Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

I have to disagree…I’ve had three Pendleton’s that I’ve bought over the last couple of years. I like the cut and style, but I am just not crazy about the wool they use…I find it itchy. It is definitely warmer, but I live in North Texas, where it is rarely cold enough to justify wearing one anyways. I typically wear them when I travel, but I prefer Dixxon flannels…I’ve bought a bunch of their clothing period. I’m a big guy and they make clothing for big men, unlike a lot of companies (big men need style too! lol). Just my opinion.

Ya, I just got turned on to Dixxon. I am disappointed that they carry different patterns and colors through their Australian store than they do through their American one. And then also, they have such a limited run that they sell out of the large sizes very fast. Then you look online and the scum of the earth resellers are charging $150-$200 bucks for one when they come from the store at an $80 price point. Everyone just wants to be in your pockets these days. Shame.

@@wyattbreymeyer4033 that mentality is a problem in todays world. People will spend $50 every year for a poorly constructed, made in China flannel, etc. but won’t consider spending $300 on a very well crafted flannel that will literally last a lifetime. It’s time that people start buying fewer, better made clothes rather than many, pieces of crap.

I think that the flannels made by legendary whitetails are excellent gateway flannels for people looking to get into flannel wearing. They are cheap enough so if you accidently shrink dry one it doesn't hurt. But they are also warm and sturdy enough to be worn everyday! Carl, I would like to see your take ok them. They would be priced well below anything in this video, but I have numerous ones from when I first started wearing flannels and love them!

I`m glad you came up with this video as I`m always on the lookout for a good flannel but always afraid to buy them as i`ve had to throw away many more than I`ve gotten to wear , either they shrink badly or the wear ability is poor. I just reached over to look at the brand name of the very best flannel I`ve ever owned [ Burry Lane ] but alas they don`t make the brand any more , got 15 yrs service out of the last batch I bought and just now starting to wear out. I Like many others find myself having to buy thru the mail and fitment is always an issue with that method I`m really glad you had such an in depth review of these and as far as name brands that`s very helpful to as there are many companies out there trying to imitate the better brands between all the above it makes buying a daunting task. Thanks

Pendleton and Quiksilver/Waterman are the only brands that fill my armoire. They have über cool ombres and color ways. There’s a lot of other great labels out there but that would interfere with my ocd and paychecks lol. Cool and informative video.

I have a couple Dixxon Flannels. They are 100 % polyester which is why they don’t shrink and hold up well. But there is nothing like the feel of soft cotton.

Great video! Filson flannels are good if you can get them on sale. I love my Carhartt flannel too. I surprised so many of your high end flannels are poly-blends. If I was going spend more than a Benjie on a shirt, I’d want wool or at least a mostly wool blend.

Thanks for the flannel video!! I'm 5'4" and am athletic and weigh 145 lbs. All regular manufacturers make shirts that are too long in the sleeves for me. Can you please give me your opinion on the flannel shirts that have relatively shorter sleeves if any exist. My current flannel "go to" is Peter Manning and Ash & Erie (shorter men) but their flannels are pretty thin. Thanks again!

  • @macfamily5693

Try 5.11 flannel shirts. Great quality for around $65 retail and they have mid and heavy weight. They tend to run smaller in the shoulders and arms, but the snap buttons and pockets are the best. Duluth are the most comfortable and LL Bean are great as well.

through a frend i have found Dixxon flannels, have you tried any from there? i ordered 1 and absolutly loved it and now have sense picked up a couple more, including a couple for my wife. granted they seem to be more geared towards bikers and a west coast style but those suckers are warm and block most wind while out riding. great video by the way, i will have to keep watching!!

Love your channel and have been subscribed for a little while. When it came to flannel shirts, it was an obvious go to. Yesterday, I ordered an American Giant flannel cotton shirt on sale. I had done some internet research and was surprised to lean, it is made in the USA, one of the few. Too good a deal to pass up. But it is less than 6 ounces. Can you recommend a wool or heavier, warmer cotton, at least ounces, with snaps instead of buttons? Can be made anywhere, at budget, mid level or higher price point. I was thinking about LL Bean Pendleton, and that Japanese brand you say make the best. Also, as a Canadian, I am thinking about Roots. You have never covered American Giant or Roots, to my knowledge. Perhaps ideas for future videos?

The problem I've always had with Patagonia flannel shirts is the length of the sleeves. I bought an XL (my normal size) and the sleeves were way too short. I ended up buying another XXL just for some extra sleeve length, and the sleeves are still short. For the price they charge you'd think they'd offer something with sleeve lengths. I've found a much better fit with Pendleton.
