I'm a Marketing student on my 2nd year, however it's definitely possible in this area to get a job without pursuing a degree, and you can feel it more when it comes to Digital Marketing. And it becomes from the fact that is a whole new recent area and the Uni actually still cant deliver the most recent content to their students about this new thing, so when someone wants to become a Digital Marketeer, that person only can find Digital Marketing courses or any content related to outside of the University, at least this is happening in Portugal, but on the rest of the world probably is the same as well. Now about the switching careers topic: the recruiters are not only looking for degrees anymore because to work *in a big company, in any part of the world, we should be able to learn everyday and be able to work with our colleagues as a team. Therefore, soft-skills are needed to perform well in a company because with these soft-skills you are going to be adaptable to a new reality and learn all the hard-skills.
I'm from another whole different field (science) and it's interesting to see how many skills are useful in many different careers. But I couldn't work on a laptop all day, you need a special mindset for that :). Lovely channel, very soothing and calming.
I have 1 year experience in digital marketing My skills are 1) fb ads 2) Google ads 3) social media management Google analytical tools What to know if i would be considered in the UK digital marketing company for a job.
Your English is so good that I was surprised to learn you're from Germany. I even follow your videos to improve my own English. Thank you for sharing your challenges here.
"I am specialising in digital marketing with a focus on addressing the unique challenges faced by individuals with dyslexia. I believe this is a crucial area that remains underrepresented, despite its significance. As someone who has dyslexia, I have a deep understanding of the specific obstacles that this community faces, particularly in navigating digital content. My goal is to bridge this gap by creating more accessible and inclusive digital marketing strategies. This will not only improve the online experience for people with dyslexia but also demonstrate the untapped potential of this market, which many businesses overlook. By specialising in this field, I aim to bring attention to the importance of inclusivity in digital spaces and ensure that everyone, regardless of their learning differences, has equal access to information and opportunities."
My experience is very similar! I studied linguistics and literature and now I work as a social media manager for a big company. One of the things that helped me the most was to showcase my project on TH-cam, as I could demonstrate how to build community. This video is very useful! ❤❤❤ Thank you very much
I'm pivoting from customer care to digital marketing as well and getting certificate from Coursera. The issue with internships is that they specifically look for 4th year students without exceptions and it's been a while since I graduated. Also I have no networking skills to help me with. Wish me luck.
Great Video ! Helpful! Next year, I will be Going to Edinburgh university for my Masters in marketing and also have 1 year job experience and I believe through internship! I would land a job there for myself as I will come on the master loan; however, your video pop-up from somewhere and i find it really helpful. It would be great if you give me some advice as marketer?! for job in uk 😅
quick question... marketing is lowkey something i'm tempted to explore, that being said i do expect AI tech to influence the industry in the foreseeable future. are you yet seeing any effects of that in your field and are you taking an precautionary steps to avoid being laid off?
totally get your concern, here's my take: we need humans to prompt AI and at the end of the day, we are still marketing for other humans who seek human experiences and want to connect. marketing will change no doubt, so I'd focus on jobs that cant be easily automated like creative strategy, content or brand management
I would like to make a career shift into digital marketing. I am currently taking the Google Digital Marketing course. However, the issue I face is that I lack real hands-on experience, and I am uncomfortable with showing my face or making videos with my face on social media to create examples of my work that I could later present in a job interview for a social media manager position. Do you have any suggestions for alternatives?
depends which part of marketing you're interested in, is it social media marketing? I think you can also create great content without showing your face, maybe more on the educational side. I'd also really recommend finding an internship, perhaps a remote one for more flexibility. good luck!
@@johanna.helena I’m not sure yet which area of digital marketing I’m interested in. For entry-level positions in digital marketing without much experience, which part do people usually start in? I work as an online teacher, so I might create a faceless Instagram learning profile where I share my educational content.
Hi Johanna, great tips for switching careers! I switched from bookkeeping to auditing but the things we can learn is endless. Btw, how did you get to learn English so well?
Do you think digital marketing gives you equal or more satisfaction than the investigative nature of journalism? One thing you didn't mention (it's not a criticism) but journalism is very social class based in England. If you went to the right private school it's easier to get internships because of strong alumni links to certain organisations/companies.
marketing is definitely less satisfying, but I was really craving more stability + I still work as a freelance journalist so I can scratch that itch 👀 your comment re class is very true, I also noticed this! I always google feature journalists and 80% of their parents have a Wikipedia page…
Hi, thank you so much for the insights! i think you talking about how to get into the job and maybe also your particular tasks etc is so interesting. I have a question for you mayb you could give me a tip :) Do you need statistics knowledge for digital marketing? Cause i am studying communciation and thinking of taking the statistics course (only have very basic sttistics knowledge so far). I think it'll be a bit of a struggle but i was thinking that since marketing is so much based on data and the analysis thereof, statistics is probably useful? What do you think:)
I also had statistics in my MA but haven’t used it in my career so far - I’m in creative marketing though so you might need it if you go into the more analytical/numbers side of things! I‘d say go with the courses that interest you most cause that’s what you‘ll hopefully end up doing work wise!
Hi Johanna, congratulations for your videos. I'm also very interested in taking digital marketing courses (even though I have no experience and only have a three-year degree in psychology), but do you already have to have a business to take hubspot courses? or a freelance website, or in any case do you already have to be active at work? because when I tried to sign up it asked me for the name of my company, or my freelance site. A thousand thanks! :D
Hi there, thank you for watching 😊 it should be completely free, I assume they just ask for this info so they can track their data and potential leads, I’d probably just add a link to your LinkedIn account if you can’t proceed without adding something 😊 hope it works, I found their courses really helpful x
Hey, I’m looking for summer internships in marketing, I was wondering in your resume how would you add your projects or stated that you have a portfolio with small projects. Another question, How do you find internships which websites are best suited?
I'd recommend building a website that includes your projects & a description of yourslef and including that link on CV's - also shows that you are a bit tech-savvy 👀 I'd say Linkedin was the best platform for me to apply for jobs and internships x
very true!! portfolio & internships to get work experience - I’d also do some free courses (I like the ones from HubSpot) to boost your cv. Good luck!🍀
@@tahsinahmed3572 anything that helps you to demonstrate your experience - for example, work samples of social media posts, blog articles etc., you could also build a website with case studies of your work :) If you don't have any experience yet, I'd focus more on internships or freelance gigs (which will then help you to build a portfolio)
@@johanna.helena sorry one more question. Do u think it will be better for me to go to university to get a degree or can I do digital marketing without a degree?
Thanks for your sharing. It's great to watch your video and understand what your marketing life is. I was a digital marketer in Hong Kong. However, it's difficult to find a marketing job in the UK as the employers may not recognize what I have done in my home country. What do you think about this? In addition, I am curious about the British Culture here like their buying habits or social media preferences. Hope that you can share more about this in the future. Many thanks!
good question, sadly I don't have much experience with this - my work experience was all in the UK as this is where I had my first job after uni! I'd suggest looking for companies that have a link to Hong Kong so that you can utilise your previous experience, that's what I'm doing (with my German background), hope this helps & good luck!
