Currently, I'm having trouble with choosing the right “course” for me. I'm desperate to avoid mistakes while establishing my career, it's making me feel pressured, I'm scared to fail my family (because I can feel that they've had this unhealthy obsession with academic performances and report cards). It is not my intention to make them feel that they wasted years of paying for my tuition just for me to fail. Furthermore, I've been considering business ever since, I was passionate when it comes about business despite my lack of knowledge (and I'm still learning). Not only that, but I became aware of Marketing last year, and did a little research regarding the course, and I immediately considered it as my top course. Why Marketing? Honestly, I feel like I'm mindlessly deciding. But when we talk about business, plenty of people think that it's easy, that business is all about money, all about financial stability, they barely recognize the beauty of marketing. I want thrills, but I also hate too many challenges. I feel like doing some research about Marketing, or knowing things that are related to it, gives me a thrill. And it's scary to know that I'm doing things out of curiosity. I want to avoid wasting my time choosing wrong directions, but I'm also wasting my time by not exploring. I'm not good at maths, but I like to learn about establishing a good relationship/communication with strangers (in which I describe as my “clients”). And also, I've been seeing myself working inside a company (probably influenced by movies and books that I've read). Whatever happens in the future, I hope I'm doing well. I hope I won't regret my decisions and despite having drawbacks, I hope I'll be able to learn something new. To students like me, who are having hard time deciding what path to choose. May we all have the inner peace one day. We can all make it through.
I am so glad that I found this video. I am currently in college and I'm having that "hold up, what is it that I'm doing" moment, and you helped break it down. You changed my mind to stick with it :)
Thank you so much for making this video and sharing your experience! You've worked and interned for so many amazing companies and I was wondering if you were able to make a video diving more into that. For example how you got those placements, what you included in your resume/portfolio, how to stand out in interviews, networking etc. Thanks so much!
Incredibly grateful I found this video. Recently, I had to come to terms that a career in animation is not for me, and as a creative person, I think marketing would be the career for me. I can't see myself major in anything else, and I always kinda had an interest in business, so I gotta give this a go. Thank you for sharing.
I've just finished a highschool student and had a big struggle choosing PR or marketing. But thanks to your vlog, I can find out which one is suitable for me! Marketing for sure haha
I wanna do marketing so bad but my dream is to live in a rich neighborhood and hang out with friends at fancy restaurants with designer on. I'm nervous marketing won't make that dream happen and I'll be living like a normal person like everyone else. I'm also scared bc I have social anxiety and communication is a very key role in marketing. I'm nervous I won't get paid well and I'll just have a tough time with anxiety. But I really hope to be able to speak with people freely in the future.

Just to add about the Communications major versus a Marketing major, the Communications major (particularly for those with a focus in Strategic Communications) focuses on persuasion and how that fits within advertising and how a particular ad campaign might be communicated to the public. If the end goal is get into marketing, either one of those degrees will be fine. A degree is just the thing that gets you into the door, the real experience comes once you find whatever pathway you choose (SEO, product marketing, social media marketing etc) and getting a job in that area.
@11:45 is where you nailed it! Actually, I think at the end of the day, we shall be doing what we're really passionate about. Yeah, you're right, if we ask finance grads (me myself), they will find it very difficult to try marketing and vice versa. Although I pursued a finance major on my undergrad, I am switching to marketing on grad studies. Very informative video, thanks!
Ask your college if they offer lifetime placements for careers. Which means after you graduate you will have your college locate careers for you - for a lifetime.
I love the video, and I love how you show the vast umbrella of marketing. From someone who joined a small agency, I think it would have been great to hear 1 or 2 specific examples of what you liked or didn't like about marketing.
I am looking to apply to Rutgers business/ marketing. I think they wanted Calculus. Am I right????? I have an Associate Degree already so I took Statistics and College algebra. I hate math! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Graphic design graduate here, went back to school for computer science but it was heavily involved with hard math courses and I ended up failing math two semesters in a row. I’m deciding to go into digital marketing
Thank you so much for this, this was a really helpful video and I gained so much knowledge. I am meeting with my counselor tomorrow, so I really want to have somewhat of an idea of a major... and this video really motivated me. I am a junior in high school, and I already made my schedule for senior year, but I might change it and take more classes with knowing how to navigate at excel(I have somewhat experience taking ap research this year). Math does not really come naturally to me, but when I genuinely put time and effort, I am able to make math easy for me, I think you're right about training your mind, it's really helpful to do that. My school provides accounting as a course to take and I think I am gonna switch it out for ap psychology. Thanks so much!!
Hello Sophia, your video was very helpful for a prospective marketing professionals. I am currently studying marketing and it clarified many things for me about where I want to go. Thanks.
I'd define marketing as using behavioural psychology, communication and technology to influence people's consumer habits. Furthermore "verticals" are refered to as sub-branches and practically every field has them, for example a sub-branch of computer science is cyber security or artificial intelligence.
Omg! Thanks for this video uwu you made me love Marketing even more! I was planning to take Accountancy, but suddenly I go for Marketing! I hope I made the right choice~ Btw, I am an incoming College next month!
100%. If you enjoy numbers, optimization, and details you may look into the role of a paid advertising specialist. It’s in the digital marketing field as well as data analysis. Besides reporting and weekly pacing meeting you should be good to go as an introvert just bc you are spending most of your time building, optimizing, and producing reports!
You need to do some networking for that. I know it is tough in times such as these, but just make sure that you are intentional with everyone that you meet and do your best to get to know them and find out how they can help you.
I’m a freshman in high school and at my school we have this thing called “LCTI” where half of the day you do your regular classes such as math, English, etc.... and then the other half of the day it would be the major you want to go for in college or for just jumping right into a business, etc... and I am taking marketing right now and I wouldn’t say it’s easy but it feels easy because it’s really such a fun and interactive way to meet new people! :) and I’m sure there will be some rough patches along the way, just as much as any job you or even I would do. :)
my first choice course on college was actually engineering and i feel like i just kinda like the name but not the work under it i take criminology but as u said i dnt want to get a job that i will just hate. i shift course now im obviously sure abt shifting into business marketing🙂

I really like this video. It explains marketing well and why you should take marketing. I asked my boss in a non-profit, when I was working as a volunteer about marketing at school and she told me to learn by doing. She told me much of the information is free, online eg TH-cam University. Why spend money? But the piece of paper opens doors. In the old days in the English military you purchased your position as an officer. If you have the money, why not?
hello im struggling to find my major, im a senior in hs rn! & im really keen on doing businesses major! I've looked into accounting, i work doing bookkeeping part time at the moment but i can't see myself doing it my entire life and now marketing. I really like it from what i've read so far.
You are so right that people doesn't know what is marketing... it is just so broad to explain. Marketing is the most mysterious major in the world I can safely say... people have such big misconceptions: 1: Marketing is about "selling": No bruh, you are totally wrong... no one is stupid to study 4 year college degree just to sell stuff. Marketing is about innovation of brand and products, services to fulfill the needs and wants of consumers by doing research. 2: Marketing only means "digital marketing or promoting stuff": Again wrong, nowadays digital marketing is everywhere but it doesn't mean marketing only relies on that, it is just a small part of it. There's product development, brand management, advertising, marketing research, consumer behavior, public relations, growth marketing and so many other niche within marketing. 3: Marketing is only creative: There's huge analytical and research side of marketing which involves psychology and numbers!
Hey i love your video, it’s easy to understand and your voice is just so calming! 💖 I do got some questions for you tho if it’s okay. 1. As a student that usually fails in Mathematics during High School, do you think that i could execute well in Marketing since the early stage of college would involve lots of mathematical subjects? 2. Would you agree that Marketing Majors are earning more compared to Business Admin Majors like it is said according to Google researches? 3. As for job opportunities, do you think if it’d be easy for a Marketing Major to get into a Marketing job from a company that’s in another country? 4. Also do you agree that Marketing majors would have to be super outgoing and up to trend?
Hi :) thank you so so much for your kind words! To answer your questions- 1. For Rutgers specifically, you need to pass calculus which isn't easy. Universities offer tutors and you can ask your professor for extra help. If you truly try really hard, I'm sure you can pass! It just might be really challenging 2. At Rutgers, Business Admin was only a minor so I can't really say from first-hand experience. But, all entry-level jobs vary depending on company and role. A marketing major can get a Business Admin type job if they have the qualifications 3. Getting a job in any location is all about your connections! Also, if you speak that country's language I'm sure that is a huge plus for your candidacy 4. I know marketing majors who aren't as outgoing and up to trend. There are many different types of marketing you can get into that doesn't require you to be too too outgoing. But, I will say, the average marketing major student is outgoing and able to do presentations comfortably. All things you can work on as you progress in your college and professional career though!!
marketing does have a good amount of mathematics. So you cant just be creative but also analytical too. So just give it a try but if you don't like the math part of it, you'd rather go for something like Communications or English
and yea i dont think that all marketing majors have to be super outgoing and trendy. There are different positions in marketing, you could also work as a marketing research analyst or literally any position to do with only focusing on the analytical side of marketing, which really dont require you to be super outgoing or extroverted. Although talking about analytics, all marketing positions will require you to deal with data or analytics at some point! So yea as much outgoing you think you are, you must have some knowledge of mathematics and business acumen
I'm a senior in High School and I'm kind of struggling deciding what I want to major in in business. I really like marketing because I want to do real estate and I know you don't have to go to college to be a real estate agent. But I also care about how much I'm getting pai. I have been hearing that marketing doesn't make a lot of money compared to like financing. But I suck at math and I'm not a very analytical person.
That's true I'm also not learning in school. I'm also a marketing student we have subjects almost alot of subjects that are not related to marketing and I felt bad for my self for not learning, so I studying using TH-cam so I learn something. Finally some I can relate
I am selling financial products and insurance. If you combine marketing and finance you can make 6 figures and even more at times. After you understand the finance side it is mainly marketing.
Hi Sophia ! I'm also a student at Rutgers and I'm majoring in psychology, but I would love to get into marketing as Psychology majors are fit for HR, Marketing , Advertising and other professions. I'm considering taking a few classes on LinkedIn and doing a business admin/ economics/statistics minor as I'm in SAS. I wanted to know how you got into the Rutgers Athletics internship, what questions did they ask you and what experience did you have prior to that ? I can email you separately if you want because it would be really helpful to learn about the career from a fellow student!
Something that REALLY bothers me about universities is that they don’t give you applicable experience. They ought to give you that. I mean students pay tens of thousands of dollars and sacrifice YEARS of their lives for what?, a piece of paper. Just about every job wants you to have at least a year of experience. That ought to be given at college!!!! So after grinding through college, you’re still stuck with low paying jobs, inching your way up and hopefully one day you can get that job you went to school for
Hello! I loved this video! I am also a marketing major, and I love it so so much!! I'm building a business while I am still in college, and I would love to connect! Xo.
What's funny is that all the many verticals you mention are actually all verticals of just promotion, not marketing. You still have three other Ps! Product (design), Pricing (really applied microeconomics), and Place (anything from supply chain to packaging). There are about as many jobs in these combined as within the promotion sphere. And you're typically qualified for entry level on these, as well.
i chose marketing because i suck at math but still interested in business and actually want to know how to learn sales which acccounting, finance and economics don't teach too much about because they are social sciences while marketing feels like a bit of economics and psychology
Can anyone help me? I’m looking to go into some type of field regarding marketing in fashion. I love the psychology behind capturing an audience not only with my posts but timing, strategy and the literally psychology behind what key words are most triggering for responses. What field would this be? I’m not sure if it would be fashion merchandising or marketing or psychology
It’s like I know exactly what I wanna do but I don’t know the name for it to start lol. I ended up finding out that neuromarketing is basically what I was looking for!
omg i understand you i wanna do this too but not sure if there’s a title or certain degree. sounds like creative directing for me with some marketing!!
Hey Sabrina! The field would be marketing. Marketing is both an art and a science, and the psychology aspect of marketing comes into play when creating a marketing strategy. The fun thing about creating a marketing strategy is being able to get inside the head of the customer and discover their pain-points, wants, and needs then developing tactics (social media content, paid ads, etc.) to connect them with my client who can meet those needs. I suggest looking up marketing strategist or brand strategist. I also suggest reading Storybrand by Donald Miller! Good luck on your marketing journey, Sabrina!

We can all make it through.
hey, i can relate so much. its like u put in words what Im going through. Did u decide what u are gonna study yet?
Marketing is the process of identifying customer wants and satisfying them profitably
I’m planning to switch from acctg to marketing major at RBS and I stumble upon this vid! Thank you so much
I'm so happy it helped!!! Goodluck:)
I want to go into marketing after I graduate this year and this was so helpful and I also love your videos😌
Thank you:)
Omg i hope you don't have to graduate digitally! I wish you the best of wishes I am a starting freshman for spring!!!
Also i hope you get a job right out of college!!!
This is what I worry about everyday
@@innerspacce same!!
@@ravleenrai1904 hopefully we can find a job that pays us well or better start a business that would lead us to success but honestly I wish u all the best cuz it seems that we both share the same dream and worries 🙂and I really wish we can achieve them
@@innerspacce awww 🙁 I hope we both do Good Luck!
Just work on your flaws and major in something that will give u that money to live your dream. Nothing comes easy but u must have hope and strength to work towards your dream. U must work harder than the 99% of people to achieve ur dream. It’s your choice if you want to put your blood sweat and tears into it
Just to add about the Communications major versus a Marketing major, the Communications major (particularly for those with a focus in Strategic Communications) focuses on persuasion and how that fits within advertising and how a particular ad campaign might be communicated to the public.
I am doing triple majors in banking, marketing and finance! Perfect blend :D
Excellent video! I'm considering this major, and you did an excellent job giving a real-world explanation. Thanks!!!
Thank you!!
@@SophiaTian 😊
this is such a break-through for me 😭😭😭 you have no idea lol
I’m starting college in the fall and I chose marketing as my major but I’m so worried about ACTUALLY getting a job in marketing after I graduate.
Ask your college if they offer lifetime placements for careers. Which means after you graduate you will have your college locate careers for you - for a lifetime.
Why get a job when you can apply that knowledge from marketing and start your own business
A lot of marketing jobs, are growing above average, should be no problem finding a good marketing job

@@randysantibanez2766 you need money to start a business and need a job to get money
Love how you gave so much info in only 13 minutes, it felt like a good 20 mins to me :) thank you
I love the video, and I love how you show the vast umbrella of marketing. From someone who joined a small agency, I think it would have been great to hear 1 or 2 specific examples of what you liked or didn't like about marketing.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. Maybe I'll make another related video and include it:)
Thank you so so much! I wanted to major in marketing and I was honestly a bit confused but this helped a lot!
Yayy I'm so glad it helped, thank you for watching:)
just applied to Rutgers! fingers crossed🤞🏻🤞🏻
Goodluck!!
I am looking to apply to Rutgers business/ marketing. I think they wanted Calculus. Am I right????? I have an Associate Degree already so I took Statistics and College algebra. I hate math! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Great video! Marketing is such a deep topic
Thank you for this video. I am going into my senior year and I am really struggling to get an internship but this does make me feel a lot better!
i’m about to have a meeting with my old high school advisor to see what i should do... this video is a sign i know it. thank you so much
this was actually so helpful becuase your experience was just like mine 😭 thank you!
This is one of the most helpful marketing videos i have ever watched, thank you so much 🙏🙏🙏
7:40!!! Ughh literally me right now! Im so glad I found your channel
You explained this so well and with so much detail😩😭 thank you
Graphic design graduate here, went back to school for computer science but it was heavily involved with hard math courses and I ended up failing math two semesters in a row. I’m deciding to go into digital marketing
This was so incredibly helpful knowledge and perspective into the marketing world. Much appreciated!
I hope I made the right choice~ Btw, I am an incoming College next month!
how would you recommend marketing to an introverted student? would they struggle more than extroverts?
Take social classes, get out of your shell 💀
@Broken Tower bold of you to call someone else slow and weird ass when you can't even create a sentence with proper grammar 🥴
Sorry I meant building, optimizing, and producing reports on your campaigns 😂
Thank you for this video! You literally cleared so much for me.
Could you maybe do a video on how you got your internships and what you learned?
You need to do some networking for that. I know it is tough in times such as these, but just make sure that you are intentional with everyone that you meet and do your best to get to know them and find out how they can help you.
My internship started tomorrow it's really helpful
Yes it is, better late than never!
This helped out a lot, thank you for this video 😭 😂
super super helpful video I've watched on marketing! (and I've watched toooons) thank youuu

I am literally a freshman in college it’s my second semester and I’ve already switched from nursing to psychology and am very interested in marketing but I am terrified of changing again because I feel as thought I am being really indecisive
I’d say go for it or else you’ll end up regretting it + it’s your first year. It’s okay to be confused about ur major.
I want to pursue career in marketing and it has helped me a lot! Thanks :)
This is such a helpful video!!
this video was so helpful tysm!
Me hearing you talk about starting salaries when I'm almost 2 years out of college and working at a marketing agency making less than the minimum number you gave 💀
Really?! I’m looking into dosing this but idkk
If you don’t mind sharing a close number to your starting salary if you’re comfortable
This was amazing!!!
This was a great video, thank you
I want to go to RU as a marketing major!! Hopefully I get in!!
You are so right that people doesn't know what is marketing... it is just so broad to explain. Marketing is the most mysterious major in the world I can safely say... people have such big misconceptions:
1: Marketing is about "selling": No bruh, you are totally wrong... no one is stupid to study 4 year college degree just to sell stuff.
If I don't enjoy data, analytical things, and math, can I still like marketing?
@@دارين03 yes there's creative and psychology side too. And overall the concept of marketing is so cool.
So useful..im actually busy with my diploma and i was so blank but hey you helped me a lot.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thnak you so much for this video omg
To answer your questions-
1. For Rutgers specifically, you need to pass calculus which isn't easy. Universities offer tutors and you can ask your professor for extra help. If you truly try really hard, I'm sure you can pass! It just might be really challenging
2. At Rutgers, Business Admin was only a minor so I can't really say from first-hand experience. But, all entry-level jobs vary depending on company and role. A marketing major can get a Business Admin type job if they have the qualifications
3. Getting a job in any location is all about your connections! Also, if you speak that country's language I'm sure that is a huge plus for your candidacy
@@SophiaTian Hi Sofia, I have a question about calculus. Do you have to have the unit circle memorized to pass and get a good mark in calculus.
Great vid 🙌🏾
Love your video!
So after grinding through college, you’re still stuck with low paying jobs, inching your way up and hopefully one day you can get that job you went to school for
This is super helpful!!!
Hello! I loved this video! I am also a marketing major, and I love it so so much!! I'm building a business while I am still in college, and I would love to connect! Xo.
I’m 25, going back to school in spring. I’m studying marketing
graduated as a marketing major here! 💓
u got a job yet and if u do how much do u make?
I really want to have a major in this but i HATE math idk im scared
Meee tooo
Don’t worry, it depends on what university u are going but it’s really “basic” math and u can’t give up on ur dreams just because it has math ;)
literally me
Thanks much. Was very interesting to watch
Thanks so very much for your experience and info
you have to do pitches? I hate public speaking but am interested in this major
I'm the same way!! lmk if you get a reply Ahah Id love to know the answer.
i chose marketing because i suck at math but still interested in business and actually want to know how to learn sales which acccounting, finance and economics don't teach too much about because they are social sciences while marketing feels like a bit of economics and psychology
i love this girl. i am currently so lost on what career and i am in human bio but i did not like the premed route
did u figure it out?

I’m looking to go into some type of field regarding marketing in fashion. I love the psychology behind capturing an audience not only with my posts but timing, strategy and the literally psychology behind what key words are most triggering for responses. What field would this be? I’m not sure if it would be fashion merchandising or marketing or psychology
Omg this is me too!!!
It’s like I know exactly what I wanna do but I don’t know the name for it to start lol. I ended up finding out that neuromarketing is basically what I was looking for!
@@sabrinajuliajose8508 that’s so good! Wish you the best!
omg i understand you i wanna do this too but not sure if there’s a title or certain degree. sounds like creative directing for me with some marketing!!
I am a marketing major and I’m on my 2nd year.
Awesome! So happy to hear
is it fun? or not fun, but like...doable?
