First thought when I saw this video was find an activity that keeps you active. Good job! That was marching band for me. Our director always said that it was a good way of keeping off the Freshman 15. Another thing with activities is you make friends, who can help stay active, eat right, and relieve stress.
This is so true. I remember the first time I went to the grocery store in college and came back with all chocolate and junk food. After a week of that I realized I needed to be smarter about getting real food too.
can someone explain why people always expect college students to drink at college?? Most people go to college around the age of 18 and the legal age for drinking is 21....
Same thing really, plan your meals, eat healthy. Breakfast should include food groups: fruit (OJ or apple), dairy (yogurt or milk on cereal), a carb (cereal or bagel or toast), and maybe protein (like an egg). Give at least 1/2 hour for each meal (it's only a 1/2hr) if you feel you must be on the go: juice boxes, muffins, and bananas are all portable (and can be eaten silently in class - ignore any signs saying 'no food in lecture halls' everyone else does).
Does this work for a private high school where the students are encouraged to be independent? My older brother compared it to college. If anyone read the visual novel Katawa Shoujo, basically it's Yamaku minus the 24/7 nursing staff.
The not eating at night thing doesn't work for everyone. I have to have a snack within an hour of going to bed because otherwise I get too hungry to sleep and have to go downstairs to get the same snack at 1am. I usually have a glass of milk and a few dried apricots, so it's not fattening, but the fibre keeps me full. Not eating at night might be good advice for most people, but you shouldn't make blanket rules seem hard and fast when everyone's body is different.
Seems helpful........for those who actually live on campus. But for the majority of first year college students, going away to *our dream University* isn't an option. We live at home and attend community college, which presents itself with a whole new set of problems. Some of which include commute, work, ridiculously impacted classes, classes that won't transfer, etc.
Wow, you have so much on your plate! We have a great video called Time Management Solutions and also have a video on Stress Management that might help you better deal with your appetite.
@kikz786 they kindof already did; clearing out clutter. It would be cool if they did one specifically for tackling trouble areas (especially for guys), or a how-to on organizing/catagorizing a dorm room....although I feel like they made similar videos for those too though. Huh. Why's my room in the path of a tornado?
yeah i have some weight problems too, i weigh 181lbs. and i'm not happy with it at all i'm misserable so when you guys start making videos again can you do one on "stress eating" of "how to lose weight" thanks!
For some reason every college student I know got skinnier. My sister is like a size zero now and some of my guy college friends are looking pretty damn good! Though they say I look better every time they see me too, I think they're doing something right at their school!
Good video. By any chance do you think you can make one for Job interviews or ways to deal with random questions they might ask? Also ways to find jobs would be great too. Thank you guys for the videos and keep up the great work. :)
i hate going into elevators ever since i was closed in one of the doors actually it hit me and i slammed into a metal cart *that came up to my chest* so it hurt quite a bit
I'm so confused. I'm only in eigth grade and I have to push to get my mom to buy me healthy food. How on earth do freshmen have no experience with buying and eating the right food?
can you do a video of the opposite? i just started freshman year, and i have been so stressed out, I've been eating less. it's only the soda and pastry in the morning, and whatever is the smallest thing in the lunchroom for dinner. i am almost underweight! i do want to go back to a healthy weight, but I'm not sure how to do it!
I have a problem, a girl in most of my classes keeps coping my work, I try to sit elsewhere but all the spots are taken, she also annoys me a lot and hits me often, what do I do? Please help!!
after my first semester of my freshman year of college i was gaining weight because i would always drink sprite everyday! and also eating junk food. so when i figured out i was gaining i start to exercise and now i havent gained weight and stayed the same!
Oh, I wish I should've watched this before. I was a college freshman last year and I gained 16 pounds lol I was underweight before though. I already lost 5, but I still need to loose 3 pounds.
Guys, while diet and lifestyle are important, the main reason you gain weight in college is age+genetics. Everyone who is inclined will start gaining more weight at about this age of 18-20, in college and otherwise. Your metabolism naturally slows down when you leave your teens behind, and it takes more effort to maintain the same figure, even without leaving home or changing your lifestyle. Just sayin'
Nutella really isn't that healthy especially if you're like me and could eat a whole jar of it in two days no problem. If you're able to eat in moderation, it's ok. Or if the calories are lower in hazelnut spread (same thing, cheaper too!), I'd go with that.
An "empty calorie" is a casual term used to describe food for which you receive little to no nutritional value. If you have grapes as a snack you get various vitamins and minerals. If drink alcohol you ingest just calories. There are no vitamins or minerals in it. Your body does NOT process all calories the same way. ~An RN Also, schooled.
I really need that weight gain... I'm almost 12 and I weigh 65 pounds :( I'm only 4 foot 6 also. Do you have any ways do deal with late blooming and shortness?
Eating at night doesn't cause weight gain. If you eat the amount of calories your body burns then you won't gain weight. I eat the majority of my calories close to bed time(which is post workout) and struggle to keeo weight on let alone gain any.
My freshman year I gained 15 pounds. Then this year (my sophomore) I moved out of the dorms and into an apartment where I cook for myself and walk to school. So, I've lost the 15 pounds again. xD
Just goimg to say, you wouldn't have annoying hunger pains if you ate breakfast, a small snack, lunch, a small snack and so on. Because the "hunger pains" are your stomach literally saying you're starving. Your stomach goes into starvation mode and you, in turn, gain weight because your body in already preparing to store fat to keep you alive. That's all.
She sounds like Joy from Inside Out
Y’know, I never thought about it like that before
I thought the freshman 15 could also imply that you lost 15 pounds through stress as well. Apparently not
Lucy Kehoe i'd rather that one
i dont understand why people make such a big deal about helthy food.I mean its delicious.Strawberries, oranges, tomatoes arent those delicious?
Ikr
bananas
watermelons
apple
+pinkssecret love watermelons
i ended up with freshman 25 ;( biggest tip: bring ur own healthy lunch .. too many unhealthy options in most campuses

2:26 Well I heard something COMPLETELY different!
can someone explain why people always expect college students to drink at college?? Most people go to college around the age of 18 and the legal age for drinking is 21....
In Canada the age is 19
Here we go college at the age of 17.. ;-;
cause in highschool everyone low key drank and now you dont have parent around, everyone goes full alchoholic
At least they wont be drinking when they crash
In the uk the drinking age is 16 with a meal at the pub

Kate you are giving US college dining halls too much credit.
The reason I moved out of the dorm was simply that I couldn't stand dining hall food...
I gained about 6 kg (~13lbs) after moving away from family. However I'm glad I did as I was only 36kg (~79lbs) and needed the extra weight.
Stress eating, that is a good one. Have you seen our video on breaking bad habits? Might help with that a bit in the meantime.
Not crazy... AWESOME! Good for you for taking control now!
Watching videos about stress for some reason, makes me even more stressed by reminding me of my stress. AAAhHh

I started noticing that problem myself my last two years of college. I ended up deciding that I needed to follow a strict eating schedule.
Good for you!
Yeah it's very overwhelming to go to college and suddenly be hit with all those temptations. Good job on managing some of the excess weight though!
I really hope they take your suggestion.
thanks ;) and yeah i did so that video i pretty much saw all your videos that's why i can't wait till the new ones come out ;)

Could I make a suggestion for a Wellcast? How about making new friends, or trying to make friends with someone you want to be friends with?
Can you make a video that helps me organize my room and keep it organized?
Wow, you have so much on your plate! We have a great video called Time Management Solutions and also have a video on Stress Management that might help you better deal with your appetite.
gained 8 pounds, but it was mostly muscle and it put me at a healthier weight
@kikz786 they kindof already did; clearing out clutter. It would be cool if they did one specifically for tackling trouble areas (especially for guys), or a how-to on organizing/catagorizing a dorm room....although I feel like they made similar videos for those too though. Huh.

Kudos! I do the same things, people say I'm obsessed you're not the only one lol
I actually got into much better shape my first year. I kept at it at the gym. If anything, the freshman 15 for me was 15 pounds of muscle
That's awesome!
Honestly I haven't gained any weight at college. But I keep expecting too. Though I am going to at least try steps 1,2, and 4
For some reason every college student I know got skinnier. My sister is like a size zero now and some of my guy college friends are looking pretty damn good! Though they say I look better every time they see me too, I think they're doing something right at their school!
Sad part for guys is we suck at making schedules, good part is that we don't have to do a lot of work to control weight
Good video. By any chance do you think you can make one for Job interviews or ways to deal with random questions they might ask?
Also ways to find jobs would be great too.
Thank you guys for the videos and keep up the great work. :)
lol I can totally relate I'm currently a freshman and just made a vid about all of my experiences!
i hate going into elevators ever since i was closed in one of the doors actually it hit me and i slammed into a metal cart *that came up to my chest* so it hurt quite a bit
I'm so confused. I'm only in eigth grade and I have to push to get my mom to buy me healthy food. How on earth do freshmen have no experience with buying and eating the right food?
Oh, we know how hard it can be to NOT eat at night, haha. But, as the classic saying goes, "If there's a will, there's a way".

I totally misheard that as "Alright, it's time to start shitting those pounds!"
Wish I had watched this before college

i was allways determining my own diet, so i put on very little weight.
How to deal with depression? Please

Man, I wish this was done in August before I gained the freshman 15!! :(
