The first time I heard the phrase "the 5th Beatle", I thought it was referring to George Martin. Writing and directing the orchestral parts of the music was a hell of a contribution. "Yesterday" and "Elenor Rigby" could not have been pulled off by the Teddy Boys of the day.

Paul McCartney bought a grocery store for his friend Ivan Vaughn to manage. Ivan is course is the mutual friend that introduced John to Paul. The Beatles didn't forget their friends!
Pete got a lot of money from Anthology - released in 1995 because he was the drummer on several songs, though apparently it took a while for him to get the money. The exact amount isn't known, but everything I've read said it was in the millions, and an interview I saw with Pete Best after that seemed to also indicate it was a lot of money, and he felt it made up for everything he went through.

This is a wonderful video and I've learned so much more about my favorite band. Thank you so much. Did you know Billy Preston is called the 5th Beatle in some circles?
I love how George knew who was worth keeping or joining the Beatles. He was the most humble and the most passionate artist. In the end he was done with everyone’s bullshit, stepped up and asked Clapton for while my guitar gently weeps. He’s my favourite Beatle and was obviously a total babe ;)
That was fantastic and to the point. So many Beatle facts that I never knew before. Don't you just hate those videos that take 5minutes to get started and are really about the narrator for the most part.
I'd like to see a video on the various oddities on the Beatles songs. . For instance, John saying "shoot me" in "Come Together" and someone saying "Eh Oh~" at the beginning of "while my guitar gently weeps". One I've never heard is the odd transition in "I am the Walrus." that happens about two minutes in, just before "Sitting in my English Garden>>>', The edit in Strawberry Fields is so well known and talked about but there are many other odd transitions and chatter that made it on to records that I'd like to find out more about.
I've always been intrigued by someone (George or John?) saying "is he dead? Did you Grandfather? Bless you" at the fade out of I Am the Walrus." Another clue, lol? Did someone's grandfather kill Paul?
“George invited Billy to defuse tensions”. It is funny how there was always so much talk about those “tensions” and with Peter Jacksons documentary we now know that he just dropped by to say hello and they playfully asked him to play keyboard :)
check out this video on George Martin I made last week. He was so important to the beatles that I just had to give him his own video. th-cam.com/video/daeuJDmhTmk/w-d-xo.html
excellent channel, my only comment is: sometimes it’s confusing when you refer to george i’m not sure if you are referring to Martin or Harrison. I didn’t notice it on your other postings but i noticed it on this one.
What happened to Tommy Moore? According to Allan Williams, in his book, "The Man Who Gave The Beatles Away," the Beatles needed a drummer and heard some one playing the drums in an apartment complex. They found him, and though he was a bit older than the rest of the band, his drumming was very good. But his wife did not appreciate him staying out late nights and forced him to give up the band. Nothing else was ever heard of him.
Yeah I read about that guy in another Beatles book, I think he was in his early to mid 30s. He probably would have got ousted for his age eventually anyway.
Tommy's wife made him get a job at the bottle works and told the Beatles to piss off when they around to get him for a gig. She didn't think they would amount to anything.
A few semi-forgotten "other" members of legendary bands that I can think of: The Rolling Stones: Ian Stewart (piano). Was removed from the band by their manager Andrew Loog Oldham, but became road manager and continued to play on the band's recordings. The Kinks: Mick Grace (guitar). Replaced Ray Davies on some dates of a tour in 1966 when Davies was suffering from a nervous breakdown. Dave sang lead during that tour. The Who: Doug Sandom (drums). Was kicked out for being too old. Keith Moon replaced him. The Yardbirds: Anthony "Top" Topham (lead guitar). Was replaced by Eric Clapton, who was replaced by Jeff Beck and so on. The Police: Henry Padovani (vocals, guitar). The Police made one single as a four piece before Padovani was given the flick. The Jam: Steve Brooks (lead guitar). Brooks couldn't get on with Bruce Foxton (who was playing rhythm guitar with Paul Weller on bass and vocals), so when he left they did a bit of re-shuffling. The Doors: Jim and Rick Manczarek (guitar and harmonica respectively). They thought Jim Morrison was too weird. AC/DC: Dave Evans (vocals) was replaced by Bon Scott. They also went through several bassists and drummers in the early days too. Nirvana: Jason Everman (guitar) and Chad Channing (drums). Everman paid for the recording of the band's first album 'Bleach' but left before it was even recorded. Channing played on that album but was soon replaced by Dave Grohl. Deep Purple: Nick Simper (bass) was replaced by Roger Glover. Rod Evans made three albums as vocalist as well, but Ian Gillan overshadowed his legacy. The Seekers: Ken Lay (vocals). Left the band to get married. Judith Durham replaced him. Rest is history..
Eh, not really. It's a movie about the romance of Stuart and Astrid Kirchherr. The Beatles were just a context for that story, and John was the only Beatle who was given a significant character. It was also not that factually accurate. Particularly the angle where John is secretly in love with Astrid too. That didn't happen.
Only six people were ever 'Beatles'. John, George, Paul, Ringo, Stu and Pete. The others were all involved one way or another but not full members of the group. They were used when necessary but weren't 'bandmates'.
5:08 That wasn't just any "agent from Polydor", it was Bert Kempfert, famous for records like "Wonderland by Night", "Swingin Safari", and for co-writing songs like Sinatra's hit, "Strangers In the Night". He produced the recordings with Tony Sheridan and lent Paul McCartney a bass amp that was an improvement over the one he owned.
GEORGE DID NOT INVITE BILLY PRESTON TO THE RECORDING SESSIONS. THERE IS A VIDEO OF GEORGE SAYING IF JOHN AND PAUL CAN INVITE THEIR FRIEND BILLY PRESTON TO PLAY ON THEIR SONGS THEN HE COULD INVITE HIS FRIEND ERIC CLAPTON TO PLAY ON HIS.
Interesting how Paul always did what was best for the band, filled in without ego like a utility player. When the band needed a bass player but couldn't find one Paul did it. When Brian died and they needed management to carry on, Paul did it. When they refused to tour so needed a new concept to remain relevant, Paul came up with it. When the other guys were busy but John was oddly desperate to immediately record The Ballad of John and His Nasty Mean Biscuit-Thief Shrieking Wife, Paul filled in for anyone absent. Whatever the band needed Paul was there. BUT when the band went behind his back and as per John and His Wife's maneuvering, banded against Paul to instate the manager who promised John's Wife equal billing, the band limped along for a bit, then died.
I would like to know the history behind the compilation record known as Love Songs. Now that the Beatle’s songs are in the digital era, why has the compilation Love Songs not been offered for streaming? Were any of the Beatles involved in the selection of the songs on that collection? Or was this just a record company idea to make extra money and band members were not involved? Who’s idea was it to start with?
AFAIK, it was done by George Martin, with help from his son Giles, working with Cirque du Soleil. Love was the soundtrack for Cirque du Soleil at that time. Paul and Ringo did listen to it, and they loved and approved it. If i recall correctly i believe they loved the mashups and especially "Tomorrow Never Knows\Within You Without You"
There were also the 2 fan girls they literally picked up in front of Abbey Road studios and recorded backing vocals for "Across The Universe" with. (only found in the WWF version).
Well done, young man. Love these insights into the world's best band. I always learn something from you and I want you to know that you are appreciated.
Not bringing up the fact that "Sir Paul" is really a WILLIAM and only responsible for the 1967-1970 albums is very DISHONEST. He did not grow up in Liverpool, he did not tour with Fab four. He doesn't share a history with them other than pretending to be "Paul McCartney" ever since late 1966 when he replaced JPM. You normies have a very hard time accepting this. Heather Mills were right, people could never ever handle the truth, because it would make them D E V E S T A T E D.

It's people like you that make me even want to read the comments, thank you
Well researched and well presented. Thank you.
John gave Pete Shotton enough money to start a grocery store in the 60s. Pete lost the store but John was trying to give him a good start.
Paul McCartney bought a grocery store for his friend Ivan Vaughn to manage. Ivan is course is the mutual friend that introduced John to Paul. The Beatles didn't forget their friends!
@@jasona9 geez...I didn't know that! Heartwarming... Thanks
@@jasona9 When Allan Klein started to fire Apple employees, some of whom were with the Beatles and Brian Epstein from the early days and considered friends, the Beatles did turn away from them. (Alastair Taylor, Ron Kass, and others, for example).
Great video
Pete best is an old friends uncle ,, then a few years later ,, met some dude who lived by me and his dad an ringo are cousins ,, he actualy got me ringos autograph on his album when he was in liverpool 👍
We love your videos! We subscribed. Keep up the good work!
Mal Evans played the Anvil on Maxwell's Silver Hammer. He was the REAL 5th Beatle! :P
For real
He also played the last chord on a say in the life(along with Ringo and Paul)
Great review of all the personnel. Thanks!
That's crazy how many guys were in and out of that great band
The MOST crazy thing is that they replaced James Paul McCartney late 1966 and pretended that the new guy was him. That tops it all.
Ölsk Zeri .....join the nobhead club......
Not that many compared with some bands who have had dozens of members.
Quite a small number compared to other bands. One band has had 189. The Water Boys and Santana have had 60/70+ members. Even the likes of Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull and Steppenwolf etc had over twenty each.
www.thecavanproject.com/bands-with-the-most-members/
was looking at the 60s and 70s ads loved it vvery memorable the music too
Only the Beatles can make even the discarded band members be famous
Some of Nirvana's ex-members like Chad Channing and Dale Crover are still well remembered by fans...
Rashad Ali who the hell is still relevant that got kicked out of Queen
@@mitchtrubiscuit7876 John Deacon.
Anon B he didn’t get kicked out he retired
@@mitchtrubiscuit7876 That's kicking yourself out.
Great video HollyHobs 👏🏿 Looking forward to your thoughts on the Get Back Disney+ series
William contributed a lot to the Beatles after 1966. He remains a talented musician, song writer and great performer
Even though I knew all this, it's ALWAYS nice to Refresh my Memory and for Others to hear this. Another Great Vid......🎸💚
Well-researched, well-presented. Top notch content right here.
I believe that reference was to George Martin, not Harrison. Though your comment might be addressed to Martin.
That was fantastic and to the point. So many Beatle facts that I never knew before. Don't you just hate those videos that take 5minutes to get started and are really about the narrator for the most part.
0:24 Anyone else think that guy on the far left kind of looks like the guy from the Mad! magazines?
That would be Alfred E. Neuman from Mad Magazine.
"What, me worry?"
Great call!!!!!
Very informative. A must watch for every Beatles fan
That's a good idea Michael, I'll for sure look into it! Thank You!
Surely George Martin deserves a place on this list; he played on some sessions, I believe.
check out this video on George Martin I made last week. He was so important to the beatles that I just had to give him his own video. th-cam.com/video/daeuJDmhTmk/w-d-xo.html
Probably the best explanation of the band and it's changing lineup, especially the reason for Pete Best's exclusion.
I remember,in the '70s,
Billy Preston being called the 5th Beatle
I saw George, Billy Preston and Ravi Shankar in Texas in 1974. That was my very first concert. Whatta night!!
hello 👋🏻 from Liverpool
Hello from New England!
excellent channel, my only comment is: sometimes it’s confusing when you refer to george i’m not sure if you are referring to Martin or Harrison. I didn’t notice it on your other postings but i noticed it on this one.

The Walrus was Faul!
@@michaelalbee4484 Where is Tommy Moore now?
A few semi-forgotten "other" members of legendary bands that I can think of:
The Rolling Stones: Ian Stewart (piano).
Aaron Taylor Johnson did a good job as high school jon lennon. And then when I seen that highschool picture I was like "wow he looked like him too"
The movie “Backbeat” tells the story of Stuart Sutcliffe and The Beatles in detail.
The Movie BACKBEAT is loaded with historical inaccuracies. It's just a movie, part fact but mostly fiction. The Beatles meet Melrose Place.
delreydavid No, but it does address gay rumors between Sutcliffe and Lennon which was the supposed cause of the fight, if it really happened at all.
@delreydavid John did have a temper, but I suppose that was partly the Irish in him. I doubt he ever meant to kill him if he did deliver that blow.
I saw Billy Preston as George's keyboardist. The backing band was The LA Express. That was my first and one of my favorite concerts
The best channal on youtube ❤❤
You're too sweet, thank you!
Thank you!
This is very concise. I did not know some of this. Very well done.
I ABSOLUTELY want to listen to a record from Tony Sheridan and the Penises

Ringo is the best tambourine player
Another great video.
I never knew Ringo did not play the bossa nova beat on "PS ILY"....
R e a l l y ???
Awesome video !
Thank you so much!
I bought Pete Shotton's book in 1985,or "something."
Awesome info. Thankyou
Only six people were ever 'Beatles'. John, George, Paul, Ringo, Stu and Pete. The others were all involved one way or another but not full members of the group. They were used when necessary but weren't 'bandmates'.
George Martin
Wrong. _Wrong._ *_Wrong._* *_WRONG!_* You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, *WHATSOEVER.*
You are giving William too much credit.
Do a video on people who almost join the Traveling Wilburys

Love these documentaries!
If i recall correctly i believe they loved the mashups and especially "Tomorrow Never Knows\Within You Without You"
Awesome, I knew some of this, but there is a lot more I didn't know.
Like that "Sir Paul" (William) is NOT James Paul McCartney.
I like how there’s so much arguing over who the 5th beatle is when Pete and Stuart ARE the fifth and sixth Beatles
George Martin was the fifth Beatle.
@@jamesdunn9714 exactly
more like both of them were the previous 4th beatle. George Martin would definitely be the 5th beatle
Nope, Brian was the 5th Beatle. The band all said so.
James Dunn dude Pete and Stuart WERE Beatles, they were in the band
There were also the 2 fan girls they literally picked up in front of Abbey Road studios and recorded backing vocals for "Across The Universe" with. (only found in the WWF version).
Gayleen Pease and Lizzie Bravo!

John Lennon: I sold my soul to the devil.
His fine, he's with his friends.
I hope he's not. Lennon could be a bastard, but he had a good side to him too. He was a complicated man like all of us.
I am actually familiar with all of these facts, but many. many Beatles fans are. Good video and thanks.

"Tony Sheridan & the Penises" was the name of my first band! I'll sue!

The videocreator did not mention that JPM was replaced late 1966 by William "as an already set up affair".
So this video is just a charade really.
@@olskzeri2723 The whole video is not a charade....just because one thing was left out???
Not bringing up the fact that "Sir Paul" is really a WILLIAM and only responsible for the 1967-1970 albums is very DISHONEST.
He did not grow up in Liverpool, he did not tour with Fab four. He doesn't share a history with them other than pretending to be "Paul McCartney" ever since late 1966 when he replaced JPM.
You normies have a very hard time accepting this.
