I'm glad you mention the excessive throttling when running on battery or when power saving modes are in use. I'm struggling with this issue on the Ryzen 6000 series T14S.
Mine had the Ryzen 5 6650u. Copilot ultimately found the base solution. I had to toggle the hardware acceleration setting on Microsoft Edge from on to off. Even after tuning it back on it works fine now.
I've heard that the thinkpad P14S is identical to their T14. Can you confirm? This would mean that the P has nothing to do with their P series and workstation models but is basically just the T14
The P14s is indeed identical to the T14 (non-s) - the chassis, BIOS, even manuals are shared. The only difference is driver certification for the "workstation" P14s.

Also, many of them pretend to be religious, which makes sense when they have to live in a cloud of cognitive dissonance where facts, logic and reason don't matter, and need an excuse and a cloak to be inherently bad.
I considered P14s after watching your video but then somehow AMD thinkpad now can’t upgrade wifi card, RAM and it is a big downside for me. So I got Elitebook 845 G10 instead and it is a very good laptop. You should review this model sometime.
I have P14s Gen1 AMD and never had lagging issues or dropped frames that you mention. I am sad to hear that newer version Gen3 has such issues. I was thinking to upgrade from Gen1 to Gen4 as cpus have become almost 2x faster, but now I am unsure…
So would you recommend this laptop for music production? Im in the market for a laptop (first one ever) im still totally new? No i wont use real instruments, strictly digital
It'll be fine, but you might want to use the Intel version. Intel CPUs perform noticeably better when applying effects to WAV files and exporting projects.
I personally like Ryzen better, IMO better battery performance. And, Intel is really an Israeli company, and not buying anything by or from Israel is just the extra benefit of going with AMD.
@@Slap_Tech My apologies. Intel was not exactly an Israeli company, but it has become too closely linked to Israel for my taste. Intel has invested over $50 billion in Israel in the past 2-3 decades. It is one of the largest private employers in Israel. It has been one of the big ones on the the BDS list, (i.e., Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions.) What is upsetting (for me) is that Intel is a major contributor to AIPAC. AIPAC has been such detrimental and destructive to the US government and politics, and it has been paying US politicians to suppress speech, undermine the 1st Amendment and restrict the rights of Americans -- that reason alone is enough for me to never buy anything Intel. All of those negatives, and then AMD (especially Ryzen) is simply better than Intel, especially for laptops. That certainly makes the decision easy for me. I had been checking out all the tech, review and comparison videos on TH-cam. Intel USED to be better than AMD, but that was a long long time ago. Pretty much everyone else said that nowadays AMD is superior to Intel, in performance/price, battery life, etc. You are the one the very few outliers who claims that Intel is better than AMD for laptops. Anyway, I've just bought the ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 -- the AMD version -- with 32GB RAM, from Adrorama via Amazon.... for only $979. It's just a little over $1,000 with tax. I'm happy with it. So it's settled. (Frankly there was no way I was ever gonna buy an Intel anyway.)
I'm curious if the Lenovo system update/vantage has provided any further fixes and or if the drivers have affected any of the dropping issues you experienced? I see they released the G4 with the 7840U, OLED, 5MP webcam and USB4, i guess i'm on the fence because of the software issues that AMD has (always had) and if Lenovo is actually doing anything about it via their System update software (which has been absolutely stellar on the thinkpad lineup)
I just got the P14S AMD Gen4. Indeed, it won't run over 75C in either Linux or Windows. The BIOS power profiles set the rules here. Lenovo's people say on the linux forums that a new BIOS is imminent to fix this (to the benefit of Windows users too, of course). You can also fix it right now with the open source ryzenadj project, which works for Windows and Linux. I got my P14S throttling at 85C pretty easily (I specified 90C, which it hit and then fell back to 85C with all cores at 100%; the frequency was about 10% higher than the default thermal settings encoded in the current BIOS. Apart from that, everything is good (in linux). It is stable, it suspends and resumes fine, the webcam works, battery life is what I expected (it uses more power than my Tigerlake X1 with basically the same 100% sRGB 400 nit LCD full HD display). The X1 has a better bios profile; it throttles at about 90C, but it hits this temperature very fast, the P14S takes much longer to heat up.
I'm glad you mention the excessive throttling when running on battery or when power saving modes are in use. I'm struggling with this issue on the Ryzen 6000 series T14S.
I'm guessing you'd see the same on an intel, which is even less power effecient.
Would that be the gen 3 or the gen 4?

I found this video to be incredibly relaxing, enjoyable to watch and very insightful. Great work
How about the new P14s gen 4? 👀
I've heard that the thinkpad P14S is identical to their T14. Can you confirm? This would mean that the P has nothing to do with their P series and workstation models but is basically just the T14

I have found the configuration options (screens, etc.) are different but, yes they are otherwise identical.
AIRC p14s has double heatpipe
As far as i understand the p series allows for more cooling and has louder fans so its a bit faster
15:23 why the political comment? seemed like a fine on point review untill then.
Why not the political comment? Are you saying the review itself is less on point because of it, or that it sours the video as a whole?

T14s and gen 4 is dady for all of them

I may or may not have an HP laptop review coming down the pike.

I have the Gen4 and the issues he mentioned I never faced. I use Firefox browser which gives me better results with decoding video compared to Chrome.
Im planning on getting Gen4, how much did it cost you ?@@justadude8716

It was power saving / power efficiency setting on Edge.
Turn off it and you won’t get any dropped frame.
I was already liking your video, but subbed for 15:22
YOu are my spirit animal. Can you also like slap Lenovo for switching CTRL and FN on some of their BS keyboards... PLEASE!!!
Same issue with T14s G3. Only Performance mode on battery works. Even while on power with Best Efficient mode, it stutters.
So overall is it good or u have something in mind?
@@davidarchangels6500 Disabled tpm and setup win10.
Yeah, the battery life is "unfortunate" 😒
can this P14S connect 4K monitor via the type-c port?
thz 🙏
Confirmed, it will do 4K 60fps via USB-C.
Seemed a little slow to recognize my 4K TV. Be patient and make sure you have a good cable.

In the top left corner? MSI Afterburner.
