I always put the transmission to neutral first then start putting it the 4wd modes
Manual says to shift into 4L by slowing the vehicle to about 2-3 mph (not stopped), put the main shifter in neutral, and then put it into 4L then shift to drive.
Yes barely moving. You can do it going slower and sometimes stopped but then you want to revolve(purposefully not saying spin) the wheels a few times so the gears guarantee clicking in nicely. I had an old dodge(no ABS) where on ice I could lock the brakes, put it into or out of 4H and then let the wheels connect to the ground again. I wouldn’t have done it to a Jeep transfer case though😂
If you watch the 4 low lever it pops out he didn't have it all the way in 4 low

In Europe, on Rubicon JL we have 4H Auto, and 4H Part time. In 4H auto, you can drive it all the time, no speed limit
Does it use up more fuel?
@@TheAngelElectriko Only a bit. 4H Auto means that vehicle is in 2WD, and 4WD activates only when needed. Snowy roads for example, or when going uphill on some steep streets.

I have a manual, so I always put in neutral. I only shift to 4x4 when the vehicle is stopped, never while moving.
see I have a 6 as well and I've read everywhere even from jeep that it can be stopped or moving at low speed and then shift to neutral yank into 4h and off you go,but to 4l I've heard multiple things but a common thing I hear is that it's recommended to be moving very slow instead of stationary to have the wheels moving in sync and then put in neutral yank to 4l and back into 1st and continue driving. but I've owned many auto xjs and I was told it can be either stopped or in motion at speeds lower than 35 I think. but I was also told it can damage something by not shifting my jk into 4l when it's in slow motion or only on terrain with poor traction. I never really found out which is technically the proper way.
@@lanesfakis5873 I’ve heard both too, but that’s the way I was taught. Old habits die hard, I guess. I’ll give it a try, and see if going slower helps or changes anything. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
The JL Rubicon imported in Europe is equiped with both "Selec Trac" + "Rock Trac" transmission.

Simple process ! I know they’re designed to “ shift on the fly “ , but I always stop the vehicle, put it in neutral and then shift into the 4WD modes high or low . Just how I grew up back in the day with the good ol lockout hubs … certainly can’t hurt anything doing it that way .
After shifting out of 4WD back into 2WD it’s always a good idea to drive in reverse for about 10 ft and then go forward , this will positively disengage the hubs .
In my moms 2017 rubicon recon she has to be moving to put it into 4wd, idk if it’s because it’s a stick or not but whatever 🤷
Do I have to use the four wheel drive shifter if I have a 6 speed automatic shifter jeep? Like can I just use the regular automatic shifter as a primary shifter?

No this cause too much pressure of the dana axles and burn them out, causing you to possibly destroy them. Though 55 is the highest mph, id recommend you stay below 50. hope this helps.

These new vehicles are almost dummy proof. If you’re doing it the wrong way or in a way that can cause any damage, the cluster will display how to properly go into whatever drive/mode you want. I have a rotary dial with buttons for choosing modes and accidentally hit them all the time.

I've got a 2024 Jeep JL, and it doesn't let me put it into 4x4 unless it's in Park.
Does the Jeep have to be parked to put in 4H or can this be done while moving?
I have a TJ but to my knowledge 2H-4H is shift on the fly, so long as you are on slippery surfaces(grass, anything but pavement, etc.) and push in the clutch(if so equipped). 4L is highly debated, but I usually push in the clutch and just below idle speed(~2mph) go from 4H to 4L, others say to stop completely, but imo that can bind the transfer case. Do your research, you do you. I would highly advise letting off the gas and or pushing in the clutch before touching the T Case.

Are your trying to go into 4 wheel low on your transfer case? 4xE wrangler has a little different set up.

@@OrdinaryPrinceCharming13 so to get to 4wheel low. Transmission in neutral. Preferably barely rolling. Pull transfer case level back into 4 wheel low and return transmission to drive
@@CrossChryslerJeepFiat so I tried that on a dirt path I was in park switch to N then no needed to roll , switch into 4L no problem then back to drive. , follow up question so go back to normal do I just do it backwards

@@alexneamah4188 it isn't possible on a wrangler. The transmission has to be in neutral also for it to shift in to 4wd low. It is best to be rolling 1-2 mph, shift trans into neutral, the shift to 4wd low
