    It's really good to listen to someone talking about cameras without the religious tone that became the standard here in youtube. Realistic reviews adds a lot of value to the community and that's why I keep coming back here every week. Thanks for sharing.

    I got a Komodo X a couple of weeks ago and used on a big project that had the budget and need for it. Our B-camera for the shoot was our Canon C70.
    I have to say after a week of intense usage, I do love the image it can produce however it does have its frustrations. Lack of built in ND really does slow you down, that boot up time is annoying if you move between locations a lot and the file sizes do make it challenging for a small crew with back ups.
    Most of our scenes were in controlled environments which we had lit which to be honest made the Red raw a little redundant and the much smaller, straight out of camera, C70 footage looked just as good.
    I will keep the Red because of the name value to some clients however I dont think it will be our first choice for most shoots unless the budget justifies it.

      I'm getting the same image quality from my Canon R3 at 6K RAW compared to the Komodo. The RAW files from both are gigantic and not productive. How did the C70 footage compare to the Komodo X?

    • @JonathanPalfrey
      @JonathanPalfrey 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@contentm3893 C70 footage actually came out much nicer. It was partly the tighter shots that just worked better but also straight out of camera colours were much nicer. Not sure if it's an issue with our KX but even with the Revolver ND theres a strong magenta shift in certain situations.

    I got rid of my Komodo OG for the some of the same reasons. I am very happy with C70. My upgrade path will be C400 and R5C as a B camera. At the end of the day the viewer has no idea on what anything is filmed on. Canon Raw Lite seems pretty good to me. You always keep things honest which is why I continue to watch your channel.

    • @marcgilles4520
      @marcgilles4520 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's such a great point about the upgrade path. If you upgrade to the C400, the secondary camera can utilize the same lenses as the main body.

    Love my KX. Love it. It's not the go to for every project, it's just not the right tool for some things obviously. Two things that made it faster and more functional that you might want to consider. I actually got rid of my RF glass and replaced them all with Sigma 1.4 Art EF lenses. The AF works much better than the native Canon RF. I have no idea why, but it's a huge difference. To go along with this I use the Meike EF-RF VND Pro adapter. It's a locking version and it's money. I've used the canon one but the color shift and the scratching of the flocking was no bueno. The Meike doesn't do either.

    • @BrandonTalbot
      @BrandonTalbot 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Just to clarify with the Sigma EF's to get them to work you update them through the dock. Once I did (it takes almost no time at all) they work amazingly well.

    Dear Damien, thanks for your great information.
    I have a question about the sensor, making horizontal line of light, coming from the sun. (min 11:55)
    Is this behaviour normal and what is the reason (may be ccd vs. cmos)?

  • @nordfresse

    As you mention, the dynamic range of the Komdo really impressed you. Be aware of that, that the C400 has not even the dynamic range of a C70 and certainly not from a KX! In case of the KX you pay for the codec, the color since, the sensor and the dynamic range !

    • @contentm3893
      @contentm3893 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Surprisingly the R3 matches perfectly with the R3 in 6K RAW. The files are gigantic but I think the sensor on the R3 is better than the C70 and you get 6K RAW with working AF tracking. I hope the C400 has as much dynamic range compared to the C70.

      Chose what will make you happy and satisfied while shooting and after shooting. I think before you decide, try them then see what works best for you , everyone has a different opinion and their own journey with those cameras and it will be different from what you will experience. I learned this after buying the lumix s5 , I know how amazing this camera and I’m so grateful,
      everyone was satisfied with it , when I tried it , it didn’t match what I’m really really looking for, although it has impressive specs, and joy to use , sometimes you just know that this camera is not what you are really looking for, or for the type of the creation that you want to create.
      Good luck and May you choose what will contribute for you .

    You may not know it yet but I do. The Canon C400 is in your future. No doubt. Every KX negative was addressed by the C400. And it will cut with the R5c pretty well with some work. You wanna be able to just turn the camera on and shoot sometimes. If you start to think about all the stuff you'd need to do before getting started you may not do it at all. C400 is a true outta the box ready to rock. Got mine coming.

      What about the C400 dynamic range? My R3 matches the OG Komodo in 6K RAW on the canon. From what I see the R5C footage isn't as good as the R3. I think it's the stacked backlit filter on the R3.
