    MKE 600 could be powered by a simple AA battery - just twist/unscrew the mic)

      Tried that one as well, that was the reason I picked it up but the Komodo doesn’t have any good preamps so you will get a very weak audio signal with a lot of noise 🙃

    Just get the Beachtek DXA-RED Compact Low Noise Preamplifier for RED - the problem is always the user or the project type.

      Couldn’t agree more. In the end the camera is just a tool!

    Which camera was used to record this? I have bmcc6k and considering to switch to red

      The Talking Head is recorded with the Canon C70 and all the Clips you saw were all shot with the RED Komodo 6K🤞

    Set pre roll on cam. Will be good for you if 30 seconds Is a problem for you. I have a sound devices mixpre on mine for fantastic audio. ELQ 6K best option if you want to save file space. I just brought more storage and stick to MQ 6k love it.

      Appreciate the tips! ELQ is unfortunately not available for the OG Komodo yet!

    I think IBIS would just be problematic for the type of camera the Komodo is. Really meant for fast paced stuff. The nature of IBIS is the sensor is never fully locked down. Can be problematic for a camera designed for movement.
    I also think Prores 422 4k is a great option to reduce file sizes, even Prores LT. Yeah it's not quite as nice as REDraw but you still get the red color science and it can look great.

      100% agree with you! But they could think about incorporating a IBIS that locks itself when you turn it of like in the Nikon Z6III that would be the best of both worlds🤙

      @@jannis.rothermel All cameras with IBIS have that feature, they use a magnet to lock the IBIS down when it's turned off. Still not the same as a sensor that is locked in place with screws. Vibrations can still be introduced for car rigs and other high vibration situations.

    Someone is still immersed in the mirrorless DSLR world.
    Nearly all of the issues stated are common gripes of folks that haven’t acclimated to professional sets.
    Furthermore, many of the issues stated aren’t accurately stated nor the full story expressed.

    One of the best videos about Red Komodo! Such a nice channel with little views, you definitely should put more red photos on thumbnails :)

    Being a crash cam - in essence quite a small, lightweight box - the Komodo can do drone footage - if matched with one of the “cinelifter” drones that have become available in the past 3 years and not particularly expensive either. Of course, there’s the alternative of using one of the BlackMagic PCCs or the ZCam on such a “cinelifter”. Twenty years ago - to capture really high quality cinematic drone footage - would have been prohibitively expensive for most content creators !

    Nice overview. Considering Komodo was designed to be a crash cam, I never had expectations there would be Mini XLR or phantom power. I think we were blessed to have Red release a high quality camera that was within our budgetary reach, even if it was originally set out to be a crash cam. It helped grow the Red community and for the first time way more film makers could afford Red. Komodo X is what I would consider a proper release intended for use as an A cam. I agree with all your positive points 💙

    Many of your problems with the Komodo is that you’re running a Crash Cam as your A-Cam. You should rent a Komodo-X and see if that suits your workflow better.

    If you need a camera for documentaries, or interviews, they are much better options! And btw you can you use a Rode Videomic NTG, I use it on my FX6 and it's great for the price ;-)

    • @jannis.rothermel
      @jannis.rothermel  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Definitely not the most convenient choice for docs but I learnt to love it. And yes the Rode Mics are definitely working great on the RED. Thanks for the recommendation :)

    This was hard to watch… You’re adapting a crashcam for documentary use and then blaming it for being a crashcam. It’s incredibly shortsighted and frankly a dishonest premise.

    600 has a battery with phantom power inside

    • @jannis.rothermel
      @jannis.rothermel  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It has but the pre amps in the Komodo are so bad that you get a extrem high noise floor out of it with the Komodo

      The problem is that the Mic need good Pre Amps and Phantom power, which the RED Komodo 6k doesn’t provide without adding an extra accessory!
