    • @MrTieDye

      yeah if it is thinner fabric it should be fine.... with this thick fabric, it might be more difficult to get it even, but not impossible

  • @infernofarms

    Question... when you say light purple, are you using a specific dye color or just mixing less powder into the water? I would like to have a broader palate of colors, basically a light, medium and dark of each color but am wary of buying three separate dyes if I can just use more ore less of a powder primary or my own mixed. Thanks in advance for your help. You’ve been an inspiration and continued wealth of knowledge. Much appreciated

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      most of the time I just add some of my already mixed liquid to a bottle of water to make the lighter shades...... so if I want it real lite, then I will fill the bottle 3/4 full of water and then add the rest in dye... semi lite, I will go half and half.... another thing you can try for darkening a color is add a couple drops of black..... I would start with a tiny bottle so you can see how it looks before you make a bunch.... I test drops on a white paper towel to get an idea of the shade ...
      And I am glad to be of help and inspiration to you ...... I want the World to be a more loving place so I am being that person by sharing my knowledge freely :-) ..... I love to see other people have success and this art can be a bit tricky in the beginning

    • @infernofarms
      @infernofarms 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much. I’ll give these a shot. I did try darkening with black but used waaaay too much. I’ll try just a few drops. The paper towel trick is a good one, I’m always so excited to get dying it tend to dive in rather than taking that extra step to check things out first. I make it a point to do that from now on.
      Thanks again for the advice.

    thats cool, do we need soda ash before dyeing?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thank you and yes I do a pre soak in soda ash, then spin out the excess so it is barely damp, then I fold and dye it
      BUT, some people prefer to tie first and then soak in soda ash, while other like to tie them, dye them and then squirt the soda ash on
      so as long as you have the cotton, dye and soda ash all on the tee before you batch it you are good.

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hello and welcome to my channel ... yes you can dye lite colored hoodies with darker colors, they do not have to be white to start.. the main thing with these kind of dyes is that the hoodies be mostly cotton.... these ones I use are Hanes and the are 90/10 cotton/polyester
      as for dyeing just the front or the back.... you can separate the front from the back that same way I did with this tee shirt, but it is more difficult with the long sleeves of the hoodie ... th-cam.com/video/ayXftSPBITo/w-d-xo.html ..... and here is another hoodie video where I did the front and the back different .... th-cam.com/play/PLMEtBqB2BzuqU-VjaVYYOBOjvEFZgxFfj.html

    sir do you always do your dying on a dry shirt? .. i understand they have been soaked in the soda ash .. but you dry them before dying? just making sure i hear you .. i havent tried this yet .. does it give you brighter colors?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on what type fold I am doing .... on fold like a mandala where there will be many layers... I dye them dry because the dye will wick into the center of the folds.
      And when I am doing an ice dye, most of the time I will do them dry also.
      most of the time, I like to dye mine just slightly damp... so after I soak in soda ash, I spin them out in the washer to remove the excess soda ash (make sure your washer does not spray water during spin cycle because this will dilute your soda ash)
      but there are no strict rules.... each way you dye something will give you a little different results... so experiment and see what you like..... AND, have fun
