I have had this same radio for a couple years now and it works just great for my on the road use, love it. And you don't really hear about this radio out there it seems.
Just placed an order for a new peaked and tuned unit. I’m a Steerman/Pilot Vehicle Operator and need a good system. Will set up a 102” antenna for it. Have two peaked and tuned Cobra 29LTD’s that work fine but need to upgrade my antenna’s for them.
I’ve been into CB since the early 80s as a kid and have had a CB in every vehicle I’ve had. CB isn’t dead but it isn’t well. Just took a trip from FL to Illinois. North of the Carolinas it was like the old days. Bear reports, brake checks, idle conversations. Back down south static except for an occasional CB shop at a truck stop. I believe they’re an invaluable tool when driving. Instant real-time information. That’s what got me into amateur radio. I have the 980 SSB radio. It’s ok. Very hard to see the lcd no matter the color or contrast in sunlight. Also very hard to operate while driving. My cobra 148 GTL I can operate blind. The other thing I don’t like about the 980 is the SDR / digital style RF gain. There’s like four steps to it not like a variable pot on a cobra. Hard to balance squelch and RF gain for a given condition. Just my experience. Others mileage may vary.
I have the same 980 SSB, and the display washes out in daylight. Not sure about such a huge investment to get the Bear Tracker features and not be able to read the display. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind having one.
Hey Eric the old CB guy again I have a uniden 980 SSB it works well regardless of what is thought of it there are a lot of varying opinions on it but mine works great using it as a base!
Great video bud! I haven't run CB in 30 years, but I just picked up the 885 and I was wantin to go with dual antennas tho I read from some it is not recommended. Watchin your vid I see it works out. Can you throw some links to where I can pick up what you used for your set up?
Excellent video again. I posted this question on the first video you made for this device. "How come the GPS icon doesn't display on the screen? Asking because the manual says it should appear after about a minute and this is also happening on mine. My GPS antenna has a clear view of the sky so wondering what the deal is with the icon not showing on the screen." But I noticed on this video, the GPS icon is showing. How did you get it to display on the screen?
Ok, I see it says SCAN, but why is it still on channel 19? I was under the impression that a scanner CB will go through all 40 channels.and stop when it receives something.
Would anyone know how to create something similar to this but programmable. In australia we have different public safety frequencies obviously so wondering how we could use something like this for here. I've got a uniden UBCD 536PT currently but can't work out how to use it that well
Looks like a nice CB-Scanner. By the way what was under the seat? Lol. I sometimes drive over from the west coast to the end of that river to metal detect the beach there.
Get a president Lincoln ii+ then you'll have ten meters to play with to lol Even the anytone quad 6 is a nice radio. Just a guess but people probably don't like the scanner because most states are digital with no crossover. ✌🏼
Every channel has an upper and lower sideband frequency that is slightly higher or lower than the main carrier signal. Most radios allow access to just the 40 AM channels but some have single side band options allowing use of one of the upper or lower frequencies. This allows for clearer sounding talk and even reaching out a bit farther in range vs using just standard AM frequencies since AM is legally limited to 4 watts while SSB can put out 12 watts. For SSB to be useful, whoever you talk to on it must also have it. Those without it won’t hear you.
I cannot get the app to update my SD card. I've tried 7 different laptops. Uniden has no idea how to fix it. Update, I tried again. It worked. Apparently their updater was down but would not tell me it was
I would only like it as a CB-Scanner, if it had SSB, sorry. Up here. I only hear silly skip talk on mainly Channel 6, nothing like Amateur Radio's variety after being licensed in 1962. Also, then I got a CB license then, at 18, KBG7077. Later, FCC, changed it to KXR6481 before licenses expired in 1985, at least in mycase. I only have found it beneficial on Channel 18, when one trip on the Interstate. At least on the small amount of SSB heard, they talk more normally not like the hillbilly sounding voices on AM. I have heard people on AM, FM, and SSB on the frequencies between CB and the 10 Meter amateur band. Actually, except for asking for an update to a road delay, I never speak to anyone on CB, because it sounds silly compared to Amateur Radio. I am sorry 😞 to seem so opinionated, but that's my feelings about CB, the former 11 meter amateur band. 73. Ray

Yes please post link for antenna!!!!
Now that’s cool I can’t say I’ve ever seen a cb with a actual scanner on it now I want one
I just bought one and it was delivered today
Hope you like it. I just finished placing an order for a peaked and tuned unit. Going to set up a 102” antenna to use with it.

2:33 you never posted the link for it
I just got 885. Can you send me model# or link for cb antenna, scanner antenna, mount, cable. Thankks
I run a 1973 Cobra 138-SSB. Wouldn't trade it for anything.!!!🤔 I bought it New.!!!
Can you program a scan list in these? I'd buy one if you can.
No.

How well does it work on p25 signals
Nice...
How hard is it to turn the dead key down to where you can run it into a small box every one of mine will only take a 1 1/2 watt dead key

What about the P-25 phase II?
What kind of shark antenna
Where do you download the software to receive p25 phase 2

Does this unit have a built-in speaker or do you have to run a seperate driver?
Does that radio have just one antenna connection or 2 separate .. One for cb one for scanner ?
Yes
It has both, one for the scanner and one for the CB.
Where is the link for the Shark antenna and what CB antenna do you use with this?
Yes where is the link. Or what is the antenna model number

Pretty sure its digital capable
It’s digital and analog on the scanner
Why don't you peel off the plastic?
Novice here.... what is sideband?
Another method of TX RX using the same channel .

Cb radio is far from dead gmrs is picking up popularity
Anyone no if this picks up encryption or just open pd frequency
So this is not SSD?
Are there any CB radios that are digital rather than analog?
Not yet
I cannot get the app to update my SD card. I've tried 7 different laptops. Uniden has no idea how to fix it.
Update, I tried again. It worked. Apparently their updater was down but would not tell me it was
I’ve been truckin for ten years. I very seldom hear anything on CB
I've been traveling across Florida for work for the last 6 years. It's tons of people who drive with a CB
