- A five minute video that shows you how to connect a laptop to three monitors through the use of a USB video display adapter. Most consumer PCs don't have VGA anymore. Just use the video adapter and turn any USB port into a video output through the USB video display adapter I talk about in the video.
Here is one as an example. There are plenty. The one I use is no longer out there. There are better ones :) tinyurl.com/y2...
"All laptops have vga", oh how I miss 2013
@IAmRa1N exactly
TraderChad well technically, he could be saying that it’s a worse year. As in, it’s worse than 2013. He could’ve also meant it’s the worst year, but I doubt it.
Evboi1118 nope. Just a regular comment.
All I have is 1 hdmi port on my rog strix
I have VGA and HDMI. I have 3 USB A and 1 USB C on my Dell Latitude 5480. I use VGA for my 1st monitor, HDMI for my 2nd monitor and USB display adapter that uses HDMI for my 3rd monitor on my laptop
Monitors: Hey guys
Laptop: IM DYING
Finally ! after how many hours searching the internet for easy and understandable tutorial found this guy. Thank you dude. !
Finally someone else with a desktop setup running on a laptop! I thought I was the only one!
Iu
You are not! I need help setting mine up though 😩
Modern laptops can use DisplayPort MST hubs to connect up to 4 displays to one DisplayPort output, depending which version it is, and the bandwidth it's capable of. (sometimes even more than 4 displays)
So if your laptop is capable if DisplayPort version 1.2 or later, you're good to go with MST hubs. I use that at my job, and it works flawlessly with 3 screens. (using a 4 port MST DP hub)
SysGhost Laptop has DisplayPort and VGA, which each are connected to a monitor. I purchased a USB-HDMI adapter, and connected this with HDMI to the third monitor. However, the third monitor was not recognized. Did I do something wrong?
1) not all laptops have vga. Its a retired technology, most new computers actually don't have vga. 2) You said that laptops cannot output more than two monitors? Weird, I've connected four to my ASUS G75 and still had my notebook screen on. And thats with no USB adapters. Many new laptops with a dedicated graphics card can run three. All laptops with a displayport connection can run three monitors as well
You are retired technology :D
I could only ever connect two monitors to my G75 (with the screen on) so I don't get how you're able to connect four without anything else. Also, Is my thunderbolt port a display port? (I ask this because I've never used it)
I hav a Lenovo with i5 and Geforce Gt740m with both VGA and HDMI port. can i use triple monitor on it? Notebook + HDMI + VGA.
how do I use all 3 on my laptop it only lets me use hdmi and rgb it wont let me use all 3 at the same time please help
***** Nice vid.
Do you have any idea if this computer ( www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-14/pd?oc=dkosg03s&model_id=alienware-14 ) can run three monitors with a HDMI-splitter? A 27 inch screen and two 24 inch screens :) Thanks for the help.
You are GREAT!! I have been looking everywhere for something that explains this simply..
I APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.. I work from home and use several computers at a time throughout the day and this was MUCH NEEDED!! I am glad to see others who believe sharing their knowledge is an HONOR and a priviledge... THANKS AGAIN.. Shannon
ur an og
how much has it changed since 2013 now most of the laptops have hdmi but no vga
+Mayank Dogra I believe if a laptop has thunderbolt you can use it for displays.
+Mayank Dogra i have both bought this on last year
*one
my computer has both, you just have to get the right computer
+Ewoenam Gbanaglo no. You just have to get the right adapters.
hi, mr carlos your explaination is clear and easy to understand without any music to add for the intro. it really helps
don't know if anyone has mentioned already, but it would have been nice to cover the software/control panel settings involved in getting the screens set up the way one prefers. My experience is that the laptop display and a single external display can both run in "extended desktop" mode. One would then have to skip one of the other local ports - hdmi or dvi or even VGA ports - if present and simply use two USB adaptors to get the other two displays up and running. Then it would be a matter of finding software to get all four monitors (laptop display included) set up as a single extended desktop.
if your just doing dual monitors the Windows key + P should get you that setting... otherwise the 3 monitors is new to me.... sorry if I am not help
Did anyone ever figure this out? Is it a software solution? Just bought a KVM switch for 2 laptops and can only get the laptop display and one of the monitors to work respectively.
Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to help people like me. ☺
I Really Really appreciate you taking time out to making this video.
One of the key points you should've started out with is to check the laptops video card capability. Not all cards can support this.
Great video - thank you! I do have the HDMI and VGA and connected 2 monitors. The problem is, the monitors both show the same thing. If I want to view one program one on monitor, and another program on the other, how do I do that when they are both just picking up the same screen (from the laptop)? Thank you again.
Have you found the answer? 5 years later question is still valid ))
Thanks for reminding me that my ol' laptop also had HDMI-saved 40 bucks for a graphics adapter. Good show!
Wats the refresh rate Mines being kinda slow
How can I use two monitors and keep the laptop monitor working, too?

I see your running 3 external monitors, can you with this setup also have your LAPTOP Screen running also ??? giving you a total of 4 screens on your current setup ?
Thanks you. You help me to see to the problem in other way so I solved my problem "How connect 3 monitors to my laptop". Have a nice day!!!
All laptops have VGA . No! in 2022 in mackbooks you dont have normal USB!

I purchased a USB to HDMI and USB to display port adapter, and both did not resolve the problem of displaying the third screen on my hp EliteBook 820 g3. I have a docking station that has three USB and two display ports, and one VGA.

I want to add two portable monitors to a macbook with integrated video card, didn't bought the laptop yet but its much more affordable compared to macbooks with dedicated videocards, i will keep the laptop running most of the day so the monitors will probably force the videocard, u think an integrated videocard will do?
I have a HDMI splitter and with that I assume I can't extend to make two monitors with different displays, I would have to get that VGAcable? I assume the HDMI splitter what it does it just splits the same display but doesn't show different displays, with its own identity, unless I'm doing it wrong, it's a little difficult.. I notice they have on the internet a VGA to HDMI, I'll get that, to see what happens, and I'll just sell my HDMI splitter, hopefully that solves my problem
Sir, can we connect multiple ipads to one computer by this device? I want to use iPads as monitors only and I thought this device might help.

Hi...thanks for ur vid. Question: I only have 1 HDMI output on my laptop. What setup do I need? How many Display Adapter I need to get? and what other cables do I need
Hi, Thank you for the video.
Please tell me if I'm right. Did you forget to point out that if you set up two external monitors. it is consider like three monitors. Unless you set the laptop not to turn off if the lids is shut. So as soon as my lap top cover is shut. The other two will work. If not only one external will work.
So my question is please.
Will this adapter help so I will be able to run both monitors while my laptop monitor is on?
Secondly, Any way i could have each monitor auto adjust to full sceen? Im trying to run a program built with excel. And if I change the resolution to fit it wont fit the others. unless the laptop is the main screen

I have my laptop, my HDMI television as my second monitor and I have a VGA monitor as a third I want to use. I have them all connected but I can only extend to either my TV or VGA I can't have both. Is their any reason why that is? I only want to use 3 monitors as in my laptop, TV, and VGA monitor but it will only allow me to use two whether it is TV and VGA, Laptop and VGA, Laptop and TV, etc.

Hi there. I want to connect two monitors to my laptop. Both monitors have VGA, and I used VGA to USB adapter for one of them. When I plugged in, there was only one working. Is that help if get a VGA to HDMI adapter for another one or do I need an external graphic card? thanks so much
I have a MSI GL73 95C laptop. It has a HDMI, USB-C, and MiniDisplay port out. So I wanted to run 3 monitors like you plus my laptop screen (effectively 4 screens). I bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter but there is no signal or picture. I thought USB-C can power a monitor. Is this not true? Do not all USB-C ports power a video monitor?
Awesome. Exactly what I need. Will Win 7 recognize those 3-4 external monitors automatically that I can make monitor settings from Windows or I need some additional software to adjust monitor settings?
ok thanks for that.
i have purchased a USB VGA adaptor on Ebay and when it arrives i will hook that up and see how it goes.
cheers
Need advice: What laptop in 2020 can drive 6 monitors?
Laptop with thunderbolt 3
Do programs like Ultramon work with a setup like this were your not actually using a separate video card for each monitor instance?
Hi there, i hope you are doing well, i want to take advantage of your video and asking for your help, i do have a desktop computer with a gtx960 graphics card with 5 output for monitor, but its only able to work 4 of them, the 5th output for the 5th monitor "does not work" i mean if i try to connect the 5th monitor it will say that this graphics cards only supports 4 monitors
Hi, I just don't get it right, this adapter that you are showing in your tutorial has a display card inside it? because from what I know most of the laptop can display only two separate screens.
They all work but sadly, my graphics card can only handle 2 screens at the time, including my laptop screen, so thats 1 extra monitor... If you know if I can get around this please let me know.

My onboard VGA doesnt't perform well anymore, can I use this USB to VGA adapter as a replacement? I use mini itx motherboard from intel D945gclf.
How is this configured within the laptop software? My laptop only shows the option for two monitors, one being the laptop monitor and one being the external monitor; how did you overcome this? I have tried a VGA splitter, but it just duplicates the display between two external monitors. My HDMI connection doesn't do anything at all.
I have a older IBM Thinkpad like you I use VGA for one monitor and a DisplayPort adapter to HDMI for the next I have a third monitor which I want to hook up what you said it's not possible to do two on the laptop however I took a VGA splitter and made it come out of my laptop to 2 monitors and they do not work as identical displays actually work as individual monitor so I have three monitors working at the same time I'm told that the VGA splitter but I paid 4 bucks for actually has enough pins to separate the monitors in to two seperate monitors
Wait, so if I'm trying to use two external TV monitors (22 inch) to my laptop, can I connect one via vga and the other via hdmi? Please help!

Carlos, I purchased a 2021 HP Laptop &, after getting a (2) HDMI to 1 USB adapter, my Laptop recognizes (1) addt'l monitor, but not (2) addt'l monitors, making it a total of (3). 2nd & 3rd monitor are a clone. I've tried everything. Would I need to install a specific driver? Thanks, in advance.
Have you used Multiplicity?, ...and if you have a Windows 8.1 machine, but your laptop does not have a touch screen, ...could one of your monitors have a touch screen to use the Windows 8 screen options?
Hi
