  • Temperature is about 1C. I've flushed out the mixture of turpentine and rendered cats that was masquerading as #2 diesel. It needs injectors but it's a breeze to start now.

Hopefully she is still running strong my father and I used to have a 440A and a 540A. I miss them both. Take care of her one of the best equipment that was ever made by John Deere

JD should build more little skidders.

Aye, they should. This thing gets in and out of little places that one of those new monsters could only dream of.

@@brokenstump6787 Way less fuel & parts $. Not feasible for greedy Deere.

Do you still have this machine? I wish I had one like it.

Please for the love of whatever you cherish in life don’t ever engage that starter from the ground again! My friend was almost killed and will never be the same from doing exactly that .

With the pump disengaged, all the hydraulics are inoperative. I'm not saying I don't have a lot of respect for this beast, it has tried to chew me up and spit me out several times before. Almost rolling over, breaking chokers under tension, popping out of gear on a slope, just to name a few.
But I don't mind starting it with the pump disengaged, out of gear, and the parking brake set. Sorry for your friend.

@@brokenstump6787 I burn my propane torch down the pipe, into the turbo. Then crank while still burning. Cheaper than ether & doesnt de- lube my cylinders so much.

@@Rene-up1dl Interesting, mine is non-turbo but the concept is the same.

@@brokenstump6787 Ethers spendy. If the propane torch doesn't do the trick I can pre heat the hot side of the turbo with a torch.
