There was over half a dozen engravings you walked right past. The steps to go up to the side of the observatory there is a 3 meter horse, 3m to the left of that there is the sungod. When you head to the windmill from the observatory, there is eight head carvings to the very right of the main walking area, about 25m from the observatory wall and old water fountain. They are right on the edge of the walkway, which drops slightly, parallel to the lower walking track with the wall. Look for remains of a seating area, it may still be there, and it is directly behind the seat, well one is. I lived right on Bidston hill back in the 60 70s and played there pretty much everyday.

I need to go up Bidston Hill again and take a pic of a carving I found years ago, it was like a deer head cut off.

Great video man! Wasn't aware of these carvings but live very close to the hill and have been up many times. Will certainly have to look out for them next time I'm there. Keep up the good work!

I can not understand why Wirral council - National Musiums have not valued these carvings ... I bet there are more under the grass growth on the sandstone.

Sad thing is none of the carvings have been looked after and preserved as much as they could have been..and markings to view them not visible enough. Have seen all carvings and more on bidston hill...seems very few people are interested and that is such a shame.

Ive read about the other carvings next to the observatory (forgotten what they're called), but still not found them.

@@spiraldive2 if you head towards the observatory from the bridge when you get to the small wall that surrounds it turn right and head down the stone steps...if you turn right at the bottom of the steps there is a sandstone rock face under the trees with a carving of a man with a spear and helmet striking another man that is falling backwards. As I say it is not as visible as it used to be as nobody has bothered to look after it. Such a shame.

More cobblers! People believe what they want to believe.I lived near there when I was a boy,we used to borrow our fathers hammers and chisels.we did alsorts there to amuse ourselves , not for devilment just for fun.lots did! Most of what we did discapeared within three decades due to natural erosion particularly acid rain. The idea that carvings from when the Norse settled here just isn't on. Sorry!

No worries. It all adds to the mystery, and at the same time kind of solves it in a way. Its good to have someone come along & say "yeah, but we did that".
