    I don't have somniphobia but I hate when I'm lying in bed and I know I'm going to fall asleep in the next few minutes. I can't stop thinking about losing my awareness. this is so scary for me. I take comfort in telling myself that I will have lucid dream and everything will be fine but it doesn't always work.

    This video isn’t completely accurate. Somniphobia isn’t just about having anxiety or panic triggered by physical objects like pillows! It’s more likely to be rooted in fears of losing consciousness or awareness of your surroundings or it could be the vulnerability that comes from being unconscious, darkness, silence etc. This video skews this phobia as stemming from bed linen and manchester …

      Same...For the past few nights I wasn't able to sleep well. I think yesterday at least from my standards was the scariest point. I was resting for a few minutes until I began to panic and breathe heavily since I feared that I would never wake up again. I got so terrified I just sat up in my bed for like 10 minutes.

    I've never understood why I have this. Even as a kid I remember being so scared of the moment I'd lose consciousness. It even scares me a bit to wake up being reminded that I can't remember when I fell asleep. I've stayed up all night 100s of times in my life and I always get the best sleep after being awake 1.5 to 2 days when I'm so tried I no longer overthink it and can relax. It's 3:30 rn. I have work at 6 rip

      you wasnt conscious for 13 billion years before you was born was you afraid lonely scared bored no you wasnt you have a higher chance of dying by the lack of sleep choking on your food slipping in the shower hitting your head getting electrocuted by the devise your using to watch youtube being murdered being run over having an illness you aint even aware that you got unless you go to a doctor and he runs tests you would never know you can be sick and show no systems of anything you could fall down the stairs its more possibility's from dying whiles being awake than falling asleep in your bed. you are going to die and its nothing you can do about it could be today tomorrow next week next month next year 10 years 20 years even 60 years time you are going to die so chill the f out lay down in your bed and have a nice good nights sleep even if you died in your sleep you would never know you died because you wont exist anymore emotions fear and consciousness is just your brain nothing more and when your brains switched off then its nothing.

    I had a accident a couple years ago which led to ptsd. In that moment of having a near death experience it felt so peaceful but I wasn’t ready to go. Ever since then it’s haunted me how peaceful it felt. I’m scared of dying. More of just not being able to continue with the world and those I love. I fear for my families lives too. It’s been tough to sleep even with medication.

      I'm going through the same thing with death. I had experiences I could have died in but never feeling death itself. When I fall asleep, I feel a deep pressure pushing me down, and I'm jolted awake and I'm too scared to sleep.

      I had a near death experience also and I remember exactly how you describe it. It felt so peaceful I was still conscious but I felt like I was fading away I was so comfortable but uncomfortable at the same time fighting it back, and that level of peacefulness i was feeling was the same peaceful feeling most experience when they are dozing off to sleep on a comfortable bed. Falling asleep feels 1:1 to death.

      @Dantes230 its hard if u were raised irreligious tho. cuz generally speaking its hard to embrace accept something in the middle of ur life, if u had basically no correlation or yearning or relation to it for the first 20, 25 years of ur life.
      cuz no matter how convincing it seems, it will be hard to change mindsets/preferences/desires from the ones u were first accustomed to. its hard to change.

    Got this phobia at the age of 9 due to a bad experience, i sadly never went to therapy because of it and i always used to sweat through the whole days, i couldn't eat with joy because i didn't have apetite, and my brain would always feel cold, now the phobia just comes and goes over and over again, sometimes it takes a year to come back or just a couple of months, i always take from 3 to 4 weeks to completely beat it, but i noticed that i am starting to manage it in a better way, the most frustrating part about it is the dissociation, it makes it so difficult to enjoy your days and it just feels like you are not the same person. I really wish the best for all of the people that are suffering from the same thing, this thing is very stressful to deal with but it will always be beatable

    This, on top of bi polar, overthinking, sleep apnea, brain damage, auditory hallucinations and anger issues...I'm doing my best to write this as tired as I am. The coffee I drank has me feeling nauseous and gagging and I'm also getting even more tired from that. The only thought I have in my head is that I'm going to die if I fall asleep. I sleep during the day and stay up all night because of a messed up sleep schedule.
    I cannot sleep, somebody knock me tf out or drug me up. My foot won't stop shaking when I lay down and I wake up gasping for air, my nightmares are vivid to the point of sweating and sometimes crying, anxiety and overthinking about literally everything my senses pick up, nicotine isn't helping neither is coffee, medications, booze, counting sheep, white noise....I'm going to die if I fall asleep

    • @surreallane9730
      @surreallane9730 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This may not be an immediate fix but it can help gradually. I would replace coffee with an apple or green tea in the morning. Nicotine does not help in anything, so do your best to pull away from it. I excersize or dance to get myself tired and have chamomile tea (as long as you aren't allergic to it) or peppermint tea. I have to hug my pillow to sleep most of the time because it makes me feel more secure. Lately I keep movies or long TH-cam videos on a TV, so when I wake up at night, I am not scared and I just replay or find something else to watch. I also like reading or listen to audio books while falling asleep.
      And when really desperate, masturbating can release endorphins that can relieve some stress and help you feel relaxed enough to sleep. You might be able to get some sleep out of it and it's like a natural sleeping pill.

      I don't have anywhere near the issues this guy has but I've had major sleep anxiety recently after a few (presumably completely harmless) health scares and bad sleeping schedules. I've noticed masturbation calms me down mentally but gives me an even harder time actually falling to sleep, probably because it makes your body and mind active for something else than sleeping

    I have a weird sort of somniphobia. I have a fear that i will never ever fall asleep because i dont feel tired even though i am clearly ready to sleep.

    • @upseydaisy7326
      @upseydaisy7326 ปีที่แล้ว

      To me, that sounds more like sleep anxiety as a result of insomnia, but I'm no expert. If you think that might be the case, speaking from experience, please consider seeing a psychiatrist for a prescription to help with falling asleep.
      I do encourage you to see a psychiatrist in lieu of a primary care physician. According to my family doctor, med schools don't teach the intricacies of psychological medication. Not knowing better, I first went to see him for help with my insomnia.
      Over a year later, I switched to a psychiatrist who literally went ballistic over the combination of sleeping pills prescribed by my PCP. Taking them together created a toxic mix that should have killed me within in 3 months. God gave me a miracle to survive over a year of poisoning my body with no short-term or long-lasting ill effects.
      Psychiatrists for the head; Primary Care Physicians for the body.

    I have a strong feeling that what caused my PTSD could be a factor in my severe lack of sleep. Which was years of SA when i was trying to sleep. I find myself not being able to sleep until i can't physically be awake anymore. Im scared of going to bed and not being concious and alert. Even in my own home its difficult for me to sleep normally. Which causes me to sleep throughout the day instead and i wanna fix it.

  • @عليعلي-ن1خ3ص
    @عليعلي-ن1خ3ص ปีที่แล้ว +7

    You are completly missing the main point in somniphobia... Somniphobia is not the fear of falling asleep due to nightmares ... etc... Somniphobia is in fact often the opposite: It is the fear of *NOT* being able to fall asleep, bear the health consequences of not sleeping and untimately die from it... The fear of not being able to fall asleep keeps you anxious throughout the night, so you don't actually sleep because of the anxiety and you get stuck in this vicious circle. The less you sleep the stronger the anxiety. somniphobia works like a self fullfilling prophecy.

    • @brunaciompi1717
      @brunaciompi1717 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Somniphobia is the fear of sleep which might be because of any reason but many people with somniphobia also have a fear of dying because of sleep deprivation and this applies to people with insomnia as well

  • @calvinkoay1939
    @calvinkoay1939 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Don't worry too much if you have not enough sleep. Most of the time is the feeling of "guilt" of not enough sleep, fear of facing the "death penalty" for failing to sleep.
    Just take it easy.
    Life goes on.
    Most importantly, don't stress.
    Then all processes will take place naturally. Then when your body is tired, it will automatically drift to sleep.

    • @truestorytyp
      @truestorytyp หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the weird thing. I'm relatively active but my body isn't really tired, simultaneously my mind is absolutely destroyed. Yet it's my mind keeping me from sleeping, probably because it's so tired

  • @Salad__cat

    I have Somniphobia and the main reason is sleep paralysis, it makes me avoid sleeping, but not sleeping and having a bad sleep schedule are some of the causes of sleep paralysis. which makes me even more scared to sleep and of getting sleep paralysis, which makes me avoid sleeping... and the cycle continues. I've been trying methods like taking naps and sleeping during the day as exposure therapy and getting some rest to make the sleep paralysis go away and it's actually going pretty well, and I've gotten far. But now I have a new problem where I won't sleep without at least a little bit of light or with my sister or someone I know and trust in the room.. (my sister has been helping me a lot in making me feel safe whenever I NEED to sleep)

    If someone has a dream of something bad and wakes up and in their reality that same thing happens like deja vu can cause a traumatic response and the fear of sleep can cause them to try to stay awake because they’re afraid they might have a similar experience except it could be worse in reality and end up being unalived

    if u actually have some kind of condition where u could potentially die in ur sleep, or u just have that irrational anxiety, i suggest u make like an arduino heart alarm that u can attach to ur body when sleeping, and it will give off a sound if ur heart actually stops. chat GPT can help you make one.
    i just hope this doesnt make a completely healthy person who simply has irrational anxiety, want to sleep like this for the rest of their life. its much more rewarding to overcome ur fear.

    There was a time when I was younger that I was so scared of falling asleep that I turned on all the lights in my house and blasted an audio book from my phone to try and keep me awake

      I'm not afraid of bugs. I was raped in my sleep, as well as many women in my life, I also had a few people die in their sleep. I also suffer from nightmares that are so intense I wake up having a panic attack.
      What are you afraid of? Can we mock that?

    I'm seriously so fucking tired of people not taking this as a real problem. My dreams are too real and traumatic and I can't explain it better. No one understands this and I'm sick of it. I recently started talking to a sleep clinic (virtually because they're far away) and I'm trying to make them understand...

    I can’t sleep at night. I am not afraid of the troubles tomorrow might bring, but that I will awaken to receive them.
