You show guitarists how it is broken down into the constituent parts in the studio- you really are one of the best at this stuff, and make my life better. I watch you everyday.

no joke that TTW album is incredible. Its the new standard for why albums matter. You cannot skip a song as you miss chapters of the story this piece of work tells. Either making dinner or when the weather is a bit warmer in Chicago sitting in the back yard cracking a few cold ones I cannot get over how killer this album is. Absolute must listen on what a album can convey AND ITS AN INSTRUMENTAL wow just wow

Hey Tom! Lovely walk through! Regarding Luck -
*The Story of the Chinese Farmer*
Once upon a time there was a Chinese farmer whose horse ran away. That evening, all of his neighbors came around to commiserate. They said, “We are so sorry to hear your horse has run away. This is most unfortunate.” The farmer said, “Maybe.”
The next day the horse came back bringing seven wild horses with it, and in the evening everybody came back and said, “Oh, isn’t that lucky. What a great turn of events. You now have eight horses!” The farmer again said, “Maybe.”
The following day his son tried to break one of the horses, and while riding it, he was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbors then said, “Oh dear, that’s too bad,” and the farmer responded, “Maybe.” The next day the conscription officers came around to conscript people into the army, and they rejected his son because he had a broken leg. Again, all the neighbors came around and said, “Isn’t that great!” Again, he said, “Maybe.”
The whole process of nature is an integrated process of immense complexity, and it’s really impossible to tell whether anything that happens in it is good or bad - because you never know what will be the consequence of the "misfortune" or, you never know what will be the consequences of "good fortune."
Thanks for the vids, UL! By the way, I don't believe in luck. Or coincidence. 🙏😉

Tom, Dude, I’m not going to wax elegant about how great you and Home Skoolin’ are, because I know you don’t care for that. But, man, in all honesty, I get so much amazing instruction and just plain solid enjoyment and entertainment from you that I simply do not get anywhere else. You are awesome and I absolutely assure you, your legacy to the rest of us is, and forever will be, incredible. Long may it last! Cheers again, from Austin, Texas (although NE Indiana born and raised).

That list of influences you shared on your last post shook loose an early memory for me... In the summer of 1979, when I was 12, I went to a friend's house and had what I think was a common experience for teenagers in the 1970s: "The Older Brother's Massive Stereo". It was one of those split-level ranch houses, the kind that seemingly have a living room on every single floor of the house. The upstairs living room had been entirely consumed with older brother Rusty's wall of albums, stereo, two massive speaker columns, and one of those "Is It real or is it Memorex" listening chairs. I was just becoming consumed by everything music (not just KISS/lol) and the first thing Matt threw on the turntable was the first Cars album which, needless to say, was glorious. I can remember not being able to distinguish what was Greg Hawkes windy synth and what was Elliot. I was still processing that when we began listening to Get The Knack which, to my 12 year-old ears, was the single most exciting thing I'd ever experienced. Just the energy. What was also fantastic about that Knack album, in retrospect, and in terms of my formative understanding of music, was that it was clearly the sound of four guys in a room, making it easier for me to begin decoding structure. Either one of those would have sent me on my way. But, this being rural Ohio, and all of us being at least 18 months behind anything and everything to do with culture, we'd just then gotten wind of the first Van Halen album. Man, what I would give to be gobsmacked again by that kind of new, exciting, and fucking overwhelming experience. That living room ended up being the place where I would go on to hear both Back in Black and The Wall for the first time. Hallowed ground.

I don't always get to get my skoolin in as it comes out but I stumbled across this one last night and got wind of "Trip The Witch" for the first time. I have listened to it all day. Such beautiful guitar tones and playing. Some of the note selections in the solos........wow, what an ear you have Tom.

Love this Tommy! I can definitely hear the Floyd influence in these which is great. Love these songs. The great Tim Renwick lives locally to me (Penzance in Cornwall, UK) and plays in a great cover band called The Hoodle with Willie Wilson on drums. Willie toured with him and Gilmour back pre-Floyd and Willie was also one of the drummers on The Wall tour. I feel so lucky that I can nip out on a friday night and watch them play cool Little Feat and The Band covers in a local pub. Great guys too with some great stories to tell! Keep the great videos and music coming Uncle Larry! ✌

Great show Tom! Highly entertaining per usual.
Interesting, to me, about Surfside Lounge (my second fav on the album after The Bird Returns). To me, along with Black Light, it is the song that would sound most at home on an STP album. Something that really sounds in Weiland’s wheelhouse. STP is definitely one of those bands that, while certainly a ‘rock’ band, end up transcending genre and just sound like themselves, particularly after the first album. Also incredible live. Anyhow TTW album is great, you are great, thanks!

I really love this record. I've taken several extended drives just to vibe out to it. It's what I describe as "Americana" but my definition of that likely isn't exactly the same as most and likely too complicated and specific to explain. This record has it in spades though. That feeling of longing nostalgia or "ennui" (corny and pretentious as that might sound) and you and Dean have the perfect combination of musical and spiritual stylings to achieve it. I was going to try and describe what I mean by that but - nah. Just want you to know I really love and appreciate this record and sincerely hope that somewhere down the line, you guys do another. I also hope that one day it makes sense for you guys to take it on the road for a short slate of performances. I know that isn't terribly likely but hey 🤞🏻

Absolutely love the Trip The Witch album. I don't love most instrumentals, but this one grabbed me. It helps that Dean was one of my early musical heroes...always drives me nuts when people write off STP as grunge knock offs and they clearly didn't hear all the awesome stuff all over Tiny Music and Purple. Anyways the songs and the melodies are just great. Enough curveballs to keep it interesting, plus plenty of familiar phrases. It's fun to hear you geek out on the parts and playing too. Hope you're feeling better, I think it was about a week and I perked up quite a bit.

13:28 That’s not just a “good riff”, as you called it…and you didn’t “get lucky there”, as you commented. That’s just a “raw, Tom Bukovac baring his soul, kickass, you can learn the lick…and play the lick, but it’s impossible to exactly duplicate the lick” lick…and I fucking love it! Just rips my heart out. Shit like that is why I say you’re my favorite guitar player alive on the planet today!!!

I love this fucking record! Speaking of B3, someone told me you are just as awesome on B3 as you are on guitar. True???
Also. thanks for this inside look. Another gem of an episode, Little Tommy!
