You can live off your land in a yurt or small cabin (or even motorhome...not the greatest in winter, but you can make it work!) until you get the financing available to build. Also...most of the housing and raw land tends to be Wasilla and places north. Not much available in Palmer. I did drive by and notice a parcel of land (5 acre? 10 acre?) near the Knik River off the Old Glenn. But places like this don't pop up too often.
