I saved my carrot seed about a week ago. Had a wash pan full and grocery bag full of seed heads. Never saw any of those bugs. I smelled a nice scent from mine. I think it was carrot seed oil though. I lightly rubbed my seed to get the little fuzzy husks off then sifted and winnowed. Got a little better than 3/4 of a quart mason jar of clean seed. I looked at an online seed calculator and that's about 120,000 seeds or more by weight. Don't believe we're going to run out of carrots if they all make.
You go through a lot more trouble than I do! I just take an entire blossom head and rub it between my hands over a raised bed planter. It worked! Got a lot of carrots that way 😊

No we don't sell them. We use them for ourselves and family and we give away a few. @cluckieschickens
This is one task for which I am more than competent, because I’m so nearsighted that I make Mr. Magoo look like a sniperspotter. At 70, I take my glasses off and put my nose within three inches of the text to read it.
This has been the most hideous year for Insects. Every weird mutated bug you cd never have imagined has hatched.

Hi Mr. Danny, I have seen those bugs all my life, but never knew that they were stink bugs. Hope yall have a bumper crop next year . Hugs
I would be interested in seeing what the carrot itself would look like that went to seed
I found some of those on a grape leaf, they were around some white eggs, I put the leaf in a jar until I could figure out what they were, THANK YOU Danny & Wanda, I know now and they are dead. 😊

I have carrot manual on our Etsy store that shows how to grow them easily.
Once you store them in the freezer for 2 weeks, what do you do with them then, how do you store them until planting season next year? Once you take them out of freezer do they have to be played out to dry from that plastic bag so condensation don't build up in the bag as they thaw?
I spread them out to dry and then rebate them and put with my other seeds in the cabinet.

We have those here in NC. I was told they are kudzu bugs. Late fall, the adults cover our okra very thickly.

Few carrots let go to seed last year but i forgot they were there in the ground and worked the ground all up in the raised bed. I definitely want to try growing carrots & letting some go til the second year for the seeds. Where can i buy Kuraoda carrot seeds? I have never seen them in the stores up here in Indiana.
Learn something new every day! I am sure I would have missed those bugs, now I know to look for them.

I didn’t collect any carrot seeds because mine never bloomed. I still have seeds, so maybe next year. I will know to look for bugs now though. Shalom!
Back in the ‘60’s one morning I heard my sister yelling out for me from the kitchen. Sleepy-eyed, I walked into the kitchen where my mother and sister were sitting at the table eating a bowl of, as I remember, grits. Now, back then, it was likely to find discolored flecks in the grits. My sister was pointing at her bowl and said “What’s THAT?” I had REALLY GOOD eyesight at that age but, even then, it took me a few seconds to notice a *tiny tiny* pair of symmetrical wings on the side of a few of those specks. “Bugs”, I said😂
Yes. I have experienced those nasty little bugs. They are as smelly as the leaf footed bugs.

Reminds me of Kudzu bugs that get on my string beans. Tiny and stink as bad or worse than the big stink bugs.
Way smaller than kudzubugs.

HELP!! I have got Mexican Beetles on my lima beans. Thousands of them, no kidding. What to do?? They're eating my buds. I could use soap/water to spray, but I don't want to kill Bumble bees. THANK YOU 😊
We use soapy water without any problems.
