My guess is SHE wants to be in full control and that's very likely bound to be a toxic relationship, not always, but in my experience usually is the case. I don't think it's about control, in a relationship one is dominant usually, most often it is the man, but it can be the woman as well. This does not mean, she will control the man. Unless she means otherwise this is a major red flag.

Hey Takashi! Nice video 😊 I’d just like to let you know I think you’ve got the translation of “friendly” wrong in English. Japanese people use フレンドリー to describe people who are sociable, extroverted, outgoing, or warm. But in English friendly simply means 優しい, like kind, nice or pleasant. So next time when you translate フレンドリー into English I suggest using one of the words I mentioned, like ‘outgoing’ or ‘extroverted’. It’s confusing I know because it’s a borrowed English word but I’ve noticed Japanese people use it in very a different way. Have a great day! 😊
I can indeed say my father taught me to be a gentleman, pulling out the chair and assisting with taking off a large coat, opening doors, not swearing in conversation (which in the UK atleast where I'm from swearing is used very casually in a lot of expressions, so I filter myself) but together all these actions very much the suprised the Japanese woman i went on a date with but to me it is common action of a man. I did indeed end up marrying my Japanese date several years later. We are the definition of yin and yang, polar oppsites that compliment eachothers company.
Something odd that I noticed in these Japanese and Korean interview videos, the girls say that westerners are gentlemen for opening the doors for them. I did the same in Korea several times and the people just look at me weird. Idk if that sentiment doesn't extend to other Asians and only applies to Westerners.
I once heard a Korean girl talking about it, she said that to do that with somebody you have to be close to that person and that person must know the reason why you're doing that; beacuse Korean people will interpretate that as an insult, like if you were saying that they are not able to open their own doors beacuse they have some kind of disability or sickness
Hi Takashi! I have many questions, but one thing that always comes to me is what young Japanese people think about their own traditions and whether or not it's important to maintain (i just love Japanese history and traditions, so I'm curious if you feel the same or young people is more focused about future and other cultures) thank you for your work!
Young, educated Japanese people have an inherent "duality" to their culture: Simultaneously modern and ancient. The trick is the understand for each Japanese person: How much is ancient and how much is modern.
People are usually more interested in other cultures separate from their own. Im different and focus on my own but I do get the feeling that maybe they do see their traditions as important and valuable. It's just a gut feeling but I would like to see something about this. But I do hope he at least gives us a little background knowledge on what the main traditions are. His vids are slightly short for my taste so if he does choose this I really hope he lengthens it to 20 min.
None of these videos can be taken seriously. In Japan, people never really say what they truly feel out in the open like this. These interviews are simply expressions of tatemae, or publicly/socially accepted, opinions.
Usually japanese people tend to hide their true feelings in public. So they are maybe not honest. If you want more honest opinion you can ask chinese people. They are brutally honest as hell about their dating preferences.
Interesting phrase made at 5:30 I'm the type that is always curious about Japanese expressions I haven't heard of before, and would google them if I think i heard something interesting. "TPOをわきまえない" --> someone who seemed to be too out of place. I think this is Wasei Eigo, but its interesting. I did some research and found that TPO stands for Time, Place, Occasion. わきまえない-> discern/separate/differentiate accordingly.
Takashi san love the channel. I lived in Tokyo for 6 years and find this all vety accurate. Your English and Japanese diction are on point as always sir.
Im dating a Japanese girl, and the part about them being open minded to dating foreigners , is , sadly not true. This comes from having lived in Japan from 6 years and having dated Japanese women from a range of 18-35 years. Of course , on camera, they will speak out their Tatemae (Something that means being politically correct in Japanese) but inside, they will always prefer a Japanese man which is what i observed. Yes, every girl might be 'fascinated ' with a Gaijin (foreigner), and might even go on a date, might sleep with you if you are lucky, but thats just to taste the 'exotic' fruit which normally most of them cant experience in a lifetime. And yes, being white has its advantages , but also dosent mean automatically that you will be drowning in pussy like some people portray it. In fact, the girls i used to hang out were so much into 'Kpop' that they would rather date a Korean guy than go for someone of another race, so it was pretty frustrating at times. Lastly, not being white hasnt affected me in anyway since my Japanese is near native having studied Japanese law, so striking up conversation or getting girls to get interested in me wasnt hard. So yes, if you are an interesting enough person, you are good to go . Just brush up on your Japanese and then you are good to go. Fuck the stereotypes .
once yall are done watching this through there is a wonderful scene from @7:05 onward on the top left corner of a family playing soccer, and its very wholesome.
Interesting difference in how women are outspoken about who they prefer. I wonder, is it taboo for a Japanese man to describe what is ideal when it comes to female features? I can't imagine if a guy in the US was interviewed and described how he only prefers women who aren't flat chested, or how she's only ideal if she has a sizeable butt, or if she was white or black like him. That would be construed as being misogynistic or racist and women watching that would go on a rant against him. They'd call it toxic masculinity, misogyny, etc.
Short summary: be Asian for them, and be somewhat tall. Different women on personality, but you don't need to change for someone who doesn't want you how they met you.

Well, western men might be a little bit more gentleman like and there is a lot good about them but to me personally Japanese men have their own charms. I don't feel comfortable when the man I'm with is too forward, passionate and puts me above everything else, I feel smothered and my traumas are being triggered so even though I wasn't with a lot of Japanese men, just two because I care more for friendships than relationships and I'm not looking actively for anyone ever, they were the best relationships I ever had. All the teasing and respect I got from them was absolutely beautiful and with the second guy I'm still with, I never felt the same way for anyone ever before. I'm happier than I ever was. I'm basically the loud foreigner that makes him laugh and he is the reserved Japanese who grounds me when I don't know what to do with myself and we complement each other so well. So yeah, international relationships are a lot of work and hard but it's hella worth it from my personal experience, if both people are willing to learn about different cultures and grow together.

They weren't too focused on me and too much gentlemanly yeah but it made it more comfortable for me.
Just wanted to say I'm so happy for your happiness. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊
