Thanks Paul for the detailed video. I just got my 9.9 extra long shaft , w/ power tilt and remote control. I got my motor from The Suzuki Outboard Team. Those guys are assume. They have free shipping but I'm local so I picked it up from them. You are spot on about the instructions. They are written to make you take it to a Dealer for the electrical connections. If I wanted to go a dealer and get ripped off I would have purchased the motor at a dealer in the first place. After watching your video you confirmed everything I though about the connections. After I picked up the motor I ordered everything I needed from Sukuki. They have Accessories that Browns Point doesn't offer. Check that out!
Paul - THANK YOU so VERY much for this video. I ordered the exact same motor (with electric start) yesterday to replace a 1960 Evinrude and saw your videos this morning. The motor is currently backordered from SuzukiOutboardTeam but when it gets here I will also be doing my first ever engine install. Thanks for making my life a bit easier when the motor does arrive. Initially I wanted my local dealer to do this but they want $5600 (plus tax) for just the motor which makes the cost of the motor alone over $2000 more. Then there's the cost for installation. Yeah... for that kind of money I'll do it myself. I did watch the videos very closely and have a few comments and questions if I may: 1) In the part 2 video at 8:30 you connect steering control arm. There should be a bushing/seal around the control arm side that's missing. This seals up the non-cable end of the unit. The seal does magically appear in the Part-3 video. 2) At the beginning of Part 2 you talk about how wide the outboard flange bolt pattern is. Since I don't have a motor yet can you tell me how many inches wide the bolt pattern is so I can start planning my mounting plate? 3) At 3:26 into the Part 3 video you take off the engine cowling and remove the packing material. There appears to be a lifting hook in the center of the motor. Can you confirm there is a lifting hook already in place on the motor. Thanks again. Soon I'll be doing the same project and I'm sure you saved me plenty of time and aggravation.
You pay attention to detail...i forgot to put the bushing on the first time installing it and then i had to go back and redo it. The bolt pattern i am not sure of, and i dont have the boat right now cause somebody rearended my boat and its at the shop. The plate was 14”W x 13”H and i used 1/4” aluminum plate. There is hook already installed when you remove the cowl.
@@thepauldixonOC - Thanks again Paul. I watched your videos very closely because we just bought an old 1950's wooden boat that's in beautiful shape. We love our boat but the motor is ancient and so is the old pulley steering it has that looks like this one here : i.ytimg.com/vi/2XU44pW7BDI/maxresdefault.jpg The cables already jumped off the pulley once and jammed the steering out on the lake. So besides the new motor I'll also be installing a new modern steering system this winter. The approximate dimensions of the plate is all I need. I'm not going to drill or fabricate anything just yet but want a rough idea of how big this is going to be so I can start planning things out and make sure everything fits. Bummer that somebody rear-ended your boat... hope that nobody was hurt. That's never a good thing and especially now that you have the new motor on there.
Mark Sz , nobody was hurt luckily! Glad I could help out! Your gonna love running that motor its so quiet and smooth running. Night and day difference between a 2 stroke. Plus, with EFI the weather wont hurt the cold starts.
Hey Paul, about to order this same outboard from online outboards. Did you pay for the shipping for them to lift it down? If not can you do it by yourself or not dooable?
My 16yr old son and i lifted it over to the boat. You need two people, unless you are a strongman competitor. Its close to 160lbs and awkward cause the transom bracket flops around too! Get a friend to help and use the packing foam to protect the skeg if you decide to prop it upright next to the boat. The outboard is awesome and you going to like it!
I purchased mine through suzukioutboardteam.com and they were great. I ordered everything I needed through Brownpointsmarine.com. I also installed a water fuel separator. I have nearly 30 hours on it and love it.

Hey Paul, Great videos.. I'm interested I'm buying this same motor. Does this model come in both Tiller and Remote Steering options?
They do come in both flavors. Thanks!
Is there a model that come 2 n 1.
Tiller and remote steering?
