- UK Gladiators - Series 5 1996 - Episode 10 - South Heat 3 - 30th November 1996
Rebecca "Becky" Riggs (Police officer from Poole, Dorset) versus Sarah Perrett (Fitness instructor from Plymouth, Devon)
Patrick Dale (Vet from Tring, Dacorum, Hertfordshire) versus Emmil Watson (Unemployed businessman from Reading, Berkshire)
Notes: Swingshot is in the third Southern heat for its fourth appearance to be played due to an increase in usage where it has been played in two Southern heats and two shows from the Northern series.
Danger-Zone appears in the third Southern heat in an event line-up as a core event, and a chest guarded event, same as Gauntlet which both of them appear in the third Southern heat, which makes this the first time in three series where chest guarded events were both featured in a show in an event line-up since the second series, 1993.
Hit & Run appears for the first time since the fourth series, 1995 where it has never appeared in the Northern series, but it is in the third Southern heat in an event line-up for its first and only appearance as a rare event.

She was a reserve Gladiator... she was there to replace Nightshade who was injured. She later joined the South African Gladiators as Sheena. And Fox also joined their team.. keeping her same name.

Poor Patrick! I would know how he felt cause I would of felt the same way not running in the Eliminator and I know how it feels to have a bad back, the pain is awful
It is painful. I do suffer from back pain at times but I have no idea how it must have felt to Pat to go out like that. Not sure If Ully was making him feel better by telling him how many he beat to get there and wasn't much hope of getting another shot later

The reason why they didn't tell Emil he didn't break the record was because Buster hadn't made his run yet. The Heats were shot first for both regions.

Its wrong that points are halved for the eliminated, you have earnt those points so should have the use of them. Becky could have nicked this had her points not been halved.

The two contestants interviewed by Ulrika for the second week running lost.
Pat was the only contender in this Domestic Series to get a RED Ball in Swingshot
Unfortunately, the injury could keep Pat from doing his full duties as a vet for at least 6 weeks. He might off on statutory sick pay, which means he won't be earning a full wage.

I wonder why they didn't bring in a reserve contender? Perhaps that only applies for when a contender is injured during the five events and not on the Eliminator, or else it might be seen as unfair that a "fresh" reserve would be competing against the fatigued other contender.
Did they ever tell us if Emmil's Eliminator time had beaten the series record?
Yeah, that's pretty much the reason why they didn't bring in a reserve contender since the injury occurred during the final regular event.
And if you had listened to Sachs' commentary, then you would know that Emmil's time did not beat the record, which was 69 seconds (set by Buster Reeves in the Northern semifinals).
They only bring on a reserve is there is still point scoring events before th eliminator
Not liking the changes this season. The introduction of the spaghetti box, the North South thing, the training videos that look like holiday videos and of course the loss of the gladiators from the first few seasons
@@neilberry1552 tbf, some of the gladiator losses were due to injury or illness. Both Nightshade and Jet went for those reasons.
The same thing happened in one of the series 2 heats - a contender injured his hand in the last event before the eliminator and so couldn't compete, so his opponent went through by default. On that occasion they didn't make his opponent run the eliminator - there was no extra prize for the fastest time back then.

Emmill is better than that 1.16 imo, its hard racing solo, much easier when racing someone as provides adrenaline etc. Still, they are miles behind mark everitts times from the ashes series.
Too many contenders have some kind of professional sports background this series. So much for the ordinary people getting a chance
They had to get through trials to become contenders. If these ordinary people didn't make it, they weren't fit enough. It's not rocket science.

Ulrika always had great chemistry with the male contenders. She was funny with them when she had to and she was compassionate with them when they needed it.

Why do some of the female contenders compete in knickers and some others in shorts, is it preference or what?
The female contenders have the choice unless they need to change when they get damaged. The knickers combo seemed to be very successful this series
Just wondered, I suppose they would have to have the choice as it would be weird if they were told what they have to wear. I think the knickers are supposed to be better for performance, I'd choose them if I was a female contender without a doubt.
