- UK Gladiators - Series 5 1996 - Episode 4 - North Heat 4 - 19th October 1996
Jude Shenton (Army physical trainer from South Wales) versus Karen Scholes (Trampoline coach, van driver, and car racer from Bolton, Greater Manchester)
Glenn Wilkinson (Fitness instructor from Belfast, Northern Ireland) versus Buster Reeves (Service layer and kickboxer from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire)
Notes: Duel is in the fourth Northern heat which is not meant to be in the fourth Northern heat, only two heats by one parity number of the heats only which was meant to be in the third Northern heat, previously.
Absent: Laser, Rhino, and Zodiac.

Think he was trying to play down his humiliation at losing to a guy half his size but just looked like a maniac

Gladiator this is brilliant Series
Trojan was crazy good this season. The second best male contender after Hunter.
Poor Nightshade. At least Jet left before we saw her deteriorate. Nightshade kept getting weaker after that virus

Gladiators was never the same without Jet, Scorpio & Zodiac ❤️
Please refrain from putting Scorpio in the same mix as Jet and Zodiac. Please enlighten me to her specialist event (danger zone does not count)

@@tourous4life Scorpio actually had a better record than Jet on The Wall in Season 1 and was used it on the 2nd most(behind Jet) in the first 3 seasons. Plus she was usually the sweeper in Powerball, she had more specialty events than Panther did lol.
Vogue pretty much replaced Scorpio and only started doing Hang Tough more when Jet left.

Why did they put Lightning on Duel 34:35. I know she hit hard but she just didn't have the size and weight to withstand the opposing blows. It was a great match though.

That was a superb Hang Tough performance from Karen - very nearly worthy of Lightning!

Just some insight on buster being a world champion kick boxer. There are many different events in kick boxing and many different tournaments. So at any given time there would be 100s of current world champions from different styles of kickboxing. Also being a kickboxer doesn’t mean you would be great at gladiators
Absolutely true - and weight classes also. Though even at an amateur level with a big organisation it’s still a hell of an achievement. His style looks very much TKD based rather than a Thai or Dutch foundation
I'm really missing Jet and Zodiac :( Poor Nightshade indeed. Something isn't right. She lost too much weight and doesn't look well. Another excellent show for Trojan, but an absolute dreadful one for new girl Rebel, both Whiplash and a diabolical performance on Hang Tough. John Sachs seems to have forgotten that Lightning has lost on Duel, 3 times and does not have a 100% record. It was a brilliant fight though by Karen and Lightning. Lightning has definitely changed since those early days with the big curly hair and beefer frame when she did the Duel a lot. And Falcon has really improved. Finally she has had a win on Skytrak after 3 failed attempts in season 2 and seems to put her last year's blip on the rings behind her and doing well establishing herself now as a all rounder. They seem to be given her a break from Duel this year also. No show from Rhino.
I think Nightshade contracted a virus a few months earlier...
A Rare 10 POINTS Victory on Hang-Tough for the women you don't that too often it has to be said. As for Nightshade I think she came down with a virus maybe during her time in Australia competing in THE ASHES Series and as a result that was the end of her Gladiators Career, rather sad to see her go out in that way it has to be said.
Trojan is also on his way out.

@@furbl4345she caught a virus IN Australia 🇦🇺 and never recovered. She was one of the best gladiators alongside Jet and Lightening. She never used to fail.
@@CocoBlushXX Too bad we didn't get to see more of Nightshade in later seasons. Nightshade was great on Duel & Suspension Bridge. Lightning hits hard but she lacks the size to go up against the bigger opponent. Nightshade was the one who kept beating all the contenders.
@@furbl4345 so true, such a shame. She was the best. She also had a personal tragedy a few years later her newborn baby girl died of Meningitis. I cannot even imagine what she went through.

Interesting that given the choice of STAR PRIZES for The Grand Final my sister would rather have a HOLIDAY instead of THE CAR.
I understand they might've been trying to make it Even-Stevens in terms of the prizes, but it really should've been WINNER TAKES ALL throughout the entire series.

I had few gladiator names in mind at the time:. Semi, Sonar, Android, Cowboy, Moon, Jury, Whirlwind, Hammerhead etc. Just a few I thought of.

Apparently, Nightshade caught some sort of virus which eventually prevented her from doing Gladiators no more.
Karen has been given a disadvantage in this event

I liked Jude. She was a great contender and didn't have the petty smugness or the rule breaking tendencies of Sarah Damm.
She also wasn't as good as Sarah.

I thought in Whiplash the gladiators were not allowed to pull the dog bone out of the contender's hands, so why wasn't Hunter disqualified?
I think the rules were subsequently changed as in another show I know both Rio and Hunter were disqualified for jerking which I think is the same thing.
Looking at it again it does actually look like Buster lost his grip on The Dog-Bone rather than HUNTER Pulling It Out Of His Hand
@@davidfearis7335 Hmmm, I'm not so sure about that, it looked like there was clearly a jerk action from Hunter right at the end. Then again this could have been before that rule was fully implemented.
@@MrJJLincoln90 Well either way it was difficult for me anyway to call, this one certainly raises a lot of questions as to whether HUNTER broke the rules or not
@@davidfearis7335 He would become more of a rule breaker during the last full series of the show. I'm guessing at that point they were experimenting with making him a new bad guy since Wolf was getting past it at that point (which could also be why Vulcan was brought in).
