    I'm with you guys 100%. We need a smart home hub that does automation and handles Matter, as well as a to go tablet when needed (at a sub $500 price). I'm in the same boat where I use my phone for mostly everything, I've never really needed a tablet. But there are those moments (like travel) where I wish I had one. The Pixel Tablet is the first tablet I've ever said I'm buying as soon as it's announced. It isn't an iPad, and I don't need it to be. I need an intermediate device between my laptop and my cellphone for use in meetings, where it'll be easier to share the screen around than on either of the other devices I mentioned. I'm excited about a Google tablet not because I want one, but because I'm curious to see how stock Android is gonna evolve to work better on bigger screens. I mean, we've seen what many third party manufacturers do to their tablet skins to try to be a 2 in 1, for example, Samsung with their advanced multi-window features and Dex mode. Would definitely love to see Google's version of those features. And maybe they'll put some of those features on pixel phones, too. (I really want floating windows on Pixel phones.) I'm a bit let down because now it doesn't seem that Google is trying to make a 2 in 1 productivity beast like the iPad pro, but there's still gonna be something that takes advantage of the big screen, right? (Again, stock Android floating windows please.)
    Also, the charging dock is definitely gonna be a separate accessory imo. The way I see it, it's kinda like a pixel stand for tablets with more advanced features that truly turns the tablet into a smart display, but it's still a tablet first.

    A base iPad is $329, if they can get it to that price with the stand/dock included it would be a huge selling point. Tablet and stand/dock at $399 would be the highest I think they could do it. If they put an OLED in it then it could potentially be worth up to $499 with the stand/dock.

    • @bcepni00

    I've never considered buying a Nest Hub, but this is exactly what I'm using my good old Nexus 7 (2013) for - it's just standing in the kitchen and is constantly changing except for the very few situations like going on a trip or laying sick in bed. Pixel Tablet with the Dock seems perfect for me being larger and with additional speaker. Though, I'll buy it second hand or at least in one or two years on a discount.

  • @cebo494
    @cebo494 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I feel like it *should* be better if they come separately, as long as it's priced appropriately. They would definitely sell more of them if there isn't a base included driving up the price, and expecting to sell more of them would drive down the price. On the other hand though, they might price it at like $500 without the stand plus another $100 for the stand and then no one buys it. It could either be the best or the worst.

    One way to have a bunch of docks around the house and one tablet would possibly be to put a really simplistic screen on the empty part of the area where the pins are.

    Regarding 3:08, where Marques talks about taking it off the stand and putting it in a case in the kitchen, if the main thing somone wants is to prop it up and one does not need to charge it at the moment, one could just disconnect the stand from the wire and bring the tablet over to the kitchen with the stand.

    Same as them for the use, I basically use the ipad for that functionality around the house. Honestly Id be happy if the current nest hub could get better. I dont really need to lift it off but to properly display recipes from google drive, etc would be awesome. Right now that is one of the main uses for my ipad, recipes cooking in the kitchen. If this isnt insanely expensive this would replace my hub in the kitchen. Also agree, it CANNOT try and compete with the ipad, it will fail miserably. If its like $350-400 and its my home hub that I can occasionally pick up to use automation or google chrome and watch 1080p movies on the road then it would be an automatic sale for me.

    My question is, does the speaker dock still function as a sorta Google Home Mini when no tablet is attached?
    I'd hate to have the tablet left in another room and lose access to Google Assistant voice control without a backup device in the room.
    Here's hoping the tablet just adds UI controls and video feed support to an otherwise independent speaker.
    IMO, this functionality alone would better justify making the dock an add-on purchase, as it could replace Minis elsewhere in the home where a dock makes sense, like a nightstand or on a desk.

    I am a tablet user.. I use it on the commute to work (a laptop doesn't fit in the narrow train seats, but a tablet works) to do simple work stuff, read news and books. I use it at home to play puzzle games and read books. I use it when I go on short trips as a media player.
    I do not use any google home device because I don't want a microphone listening in my home (not that it's secret - I just don't think any company should get all that data and I don't trust Google or Amazon). So I finally will be able to replace the first Google Pixel tablet; the Google Pixel C from 2015.
    It's still working great at my place even though I don't get any updates for it any more.

    For marques's idea, if there is a case with a foldable stand which has holes in the back for the pins, it will be absolutely perfect
    Google home when docked, pop it out to make it a tab with kick stands...... amazing 🎉

      @snub7918 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like that idea as well. If there was a case with a cut out for the pins would be great. But also having a thick case could interfere with the docking, so maybe a case with a cutout for the dock to touch the back of the tablet would be great.

    Can't wait for a follow-up to this video after I/O. The $500 prediction was right on and that INCLUDES THE DOCK!!!!

    hope apple or a third party companie makes a hub like this for the iPad too. i mean doesn't even need much. tbh I would be fine with just a build in charger, speaker and maybe a passthrough usbc.
    the iPads already have the smartconnector . and ipad stands exist. im surprised nobody used the smartconnector yet for stuff like this

    hear me out:
    - tablet standalone for 299. the nest hub max is 230 and they don't really need much more power than that, they are probably aiming at scale so the engineering addon will be low.
    - separate dock at 49, for people that want more than one or decide to get one later
    - combo tablet + dock at 329 for people that want to get all in from the start.
    replacing the next hub max with a tablet + dock and a 100 increase in price after 3 years is reasonable, people would still be able to get on board and get a dock later if they want. ugly pins? magnetic cover.

    There is other reason to do the tablet besides tackling home product experiences: having a true flagship Android tablet experience. OEMs start to ship all kind of new tablet devices already, from folding phone to dual screen phone, heck even Android on Windows. So this is a tablet first, and it will compete with the Air.

    This thing needs a killer app or feature to make it stand out. A charging speaker dock is something that existed since there were iPods.

  • @SamiCoopers
    @SamiCoopers ปีที่แล้ว

    The dock needs to be a speaker when detached too +
    G. should also include the 'hub' UI with Android by default, so you can dock any tablet (or phone) and turn it into a hub. Maybe G. should release the Hub UI as an app so we can repurpose old Android devices as hubs... recycling/repurposing kudus

    Could mean a lot for the future of Fuchsia. Nest hub runs Fuchsia, not android. Would the pixel tablet be the first big transition to Fuchsia and the start of the phasing out of android?

    I appreciate the competition, it'd be cool to see a dock like that for the iPad, but as a power user I wouldn't really go with android for a tablet... or a tablet that's supposed to stay on a dock. I'm more of the idea that they should be for note-taking and studying
    Also I agree with Marques, it'll probably be just the tablet. Doesn't make sense to include the dock for the people who only want the device and aren't interested in home automation. Otherwise, there'll just be tons of docks gathering dust in the box.

    so many gadgets all across the house from speakers to nest hub, earbuds, and smartphones. Interestingly all of them provide significant common service as playing music or watching videos, receiving calls, or turning off lights. Seriously how many gadgets are required to turn off a light? where would you listen to some music on a loop?

    The second gen of this thing, should be a NEST HUB at home, and a Android automotive display in your car. That would be sick. Wishful thinking tho. That would be the ultimate functionality of this thing tho.
