Ah, I really want to go open source, but it always feels too daunting. I am a reluctant Apple user, mostly because of the 'feel' of the hardware and software if that makes sense? Like, the gestures on MacOS are hands down the best, and I can't find a linux distro where where the cursor and scrolling actually feels smooth and useable on a trackpad, even using a Macbook Pro with Ubuntu or KDE installed, they all feel weird. It doesn't help that I learned audio in Logic and video in Final Cut, so all my presets, shortcuts and muscle memory are on Mac as well... Have you any tips on a smooth(er) transition to Linux as a creative? Because I still dislike Apple as a company, I just really like and value a smooth UX.
I have a bit of an introductory video called "Install Linux and don't suffer". Maybe that helps. The best way to find out if you like Linux honestly is just to test it. On my work Mac (an older one though) I had a dual boot, but it is a bit tricky to set up (def. reading needed, not "try and error") as I remember it, and I'm not sure if it is still possible on newer Macs. I think unless you come from Premiere Pro, it's not that big of a downgrade, but I'd say that Blender and DaVinci resolve are the only real video editors for Linux. And Blender is a bit of a hot mess. You gotta know what not to click to cause a crash, is what I'm saying... The best approach to transition is probably to use a boot stick first (you can make one with a tool called etcher, don't forget to checksum!) and just test around... Just see: Does the distro run nicely, does my wifi even work, can I use my track pad/touch screen/bluetooth mouse etc. All these connectivity issues. If you already have them with the live stick, you'll probably have them on the real system too. (But with older hardware it's usually less of a problem). I can't really recommend a distro, especially if you're doing this on Mac architecture. But I am sure that there is a community dedicated to just that.
Haha, you have every right to! I am working on a video though about Apple's practices against consumers and the environment, which I think are objective reasons against their products. But I absolutely get why people love their little gadgets and neat looking silvery stuff :P
