I have adapted it. I used one long strip of thick cardboard as a ruler marked in inches, across a board like yours with a nail inserted with a clamp on each side to hold each end down of the ruler, using the knife as you do but I just need to turn the card while keeping the knife in place and it works. Its alleviated enough to fit the plastic craft clamps.
