    LMP900 was underrated as hell. That class had some incredibly weird and super capable cars. This, the Cadillac Northstar LMP, the Dallara SP1, the crazy Judd V10 privateers (too many to name, I think), the plucky Panoz LMP1 Roadster-S, the iconic Pescarolos, the Ferrari 333 SP, the BMW V12 LMR, the all-conquering Audi R8 LMP, and the "queen without a crown" Toyota TS020.
    Y'know how the Group 7 sportscars (GT40, 330 P4, 917K, 512M etc.) became such icons that their equally cool and, in some cases, even more capable Group 6 successors (312 PB, MS670, A442B, 936) just sort of get overlooked? I think that might be the case here, too. LMP900/LMGTP had a long, relatively great run, but is pretty much forever cursed to live in the shadow of the prototype class that immediately preceded it - Group C.
    The parallels don't even stop there - both classes kinda got their thunder stolen by crazy GT cars right before or as they showed up. Group 6 had to coexist with Group 5 (Zakspeed Capri, 935), and LMP900 had to coexist with GT1 (CLK-GTR, R390).
    The 90's were fucking _wild._ I think the only thing stopping the LMP900s from being the centerpiece of a golden era of sportscar racing was the fact that, thanks to the machinations behind the death of Group C, there literally WASN'T a World Sportscar Championship for them to race in.
    Actually, credit where it's due - whoever wrote the ruleset that gave rise to LMP900 did such a good job that, after GT1 imploded, these cars pretty much brought the concept of a worldwide sportscar championship _straight back from the dead._ That class, by dint of its amazing success in the 90's and early 00's, is singlehandedly responsible for the creation of the Le Mans Series, and by extension the series that came after it......
    I think we might have this strange, ugly Panoz, its predecessor, and their contemporaries to thank for the existence of the modern-day *World Endurance Championship.* Or maybe my sanity's slipping. Could be either.

      if memory serves, I believe it was originally fitted with a 4.0 liter Zytec V8, but that engine and the chassis absolutely hated each other. I think it was basically about obsolete by the time it was properly sorted with the 4.0 liter Mugen V8, which is a shame as it was quite unusual to see an LMP900 with a front mid-engine design. ❤️

      @@revelare_xvii6269 I agree and seeing the interest from manufacturers, teams, drivers, and fans over LMH/LMDh its looking like a golden age of endurance sportscar racing. I think the negative part is the V6 aspect. I would of loved to seen the Super GT500/DTM engines which are 2.0L turbos 4 cylinder which make an incredible sound and have around 600 or so BHP. More variety in the engines would of been nice. Porsche have gone the twin turbo V8 aswell as BMW so that's some difference.

      Not true. The 2023 WEC season is better than ever with works entries from Porsche, Toyota, Cadillac, Peugeot and Ferrari. Go check out the amazing 2023 Ferrari 499P.

    • @tippersimracing6070
      @tippersimracing6070 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@davidbrown8517 its not the cars themselves as they look amazing, what we feel needs to happen is different engine configurations. V6 mostly in LMH seems to be the norm. LMDh does have some difference with V8 N/A, twin turbos etc.

    • @mitchell-wallisforce7859
      @mitchell-wallisforce7859 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kuckoo9036 Indeed. An evolution that, AFAIK, sucked so badly Panoz just went straight back to the Roadster-S. (Ignore the BS I said about an engine swap - Mugen probably just rebadged Panoz's old 4.0L V8 as their own).

    • @vetteman06
      @vetteman06 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This exact chassis actually did start life with Ford V8, under the factory Panoz team in 2001 before it was sidelined after underperforming. It was sold to a privateer who then dropped this Mugen V8 inside, as the factory team went back to the old (faster) car.

    • @alex680
      @alex680 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vetteman06 not true this one is the Panoz lmp07 n°03 and have always a Mugen engine, in the best scenario maybe she run once with the Zytek V8 4000cc but NEVER with th Ford one because he was too big to fit in this car
