How to Screen Print Rainbows on T-Shirts (Rainbow Roll)

There are many different ways to screen print a rainbow on a t-shirt. During the summer, and specifically during and leading up to Pride, we get the request to print bright colorful t-shirts. One way we do this is with a technique called a rainbow roll or split fountain.
For a split fountain rainbow print, we use 3 to 6 ink colors (depending on the desired rainbow color scheme) on one screen that gets blended over each pass with the squeegee. This is a simple way to create a rainbow effect without adding extra screens.
The colors blend more with each pass making each shirt's print unique!

Would you recommend putting down a white layer beneath it if you're printing onto a darker fabric?

Yes, if you're printing on a darker shirt, use an underbase. You'll achieve the same result and it'll be nice and bright.
