Does just about evry1 else find this as breathtakingly beautiful as I do? This is truely the most beautiful thing I have evr heard in my life. I keep the whole wedding on my dvr just so that I can listen to these boys sing. Absolutely incredible! Wish I could have heard it live at the wedding! :( 1 can only dream!
This song means a lot to me, I heared it one day after I got the result of having cancer... I was so touched by the melody and lyrics... and I was thinking that when I get married to my boyfriend that I would want to have this played on my wedding day. I had not told my boyfriend at that time about my cancer, a couple of days later when I told him, he asked me to marry him. We are getting marriend in one week and we will have this song at the end of our ceremony. The song means everything to us!
As soon as the music started, I knew this was composed by the one , the only John Rutter. No one does it better than he. He truly is a gift from God to the world of music. I've been a huge fan of this man for many years.
John Rutter was/has been my favourite choral music since I was 10. I was lucky to be in a prestigious choir, where the mistress really loved Rutter's work, so I'd relish the years we go to sing Angel Carol and Carol for the Children (4 practice days per week in the autumn to Christmas term, then 6 performances, including one national one where I was the alto soloist, my two best friends being soprano soloists)....... ........ Go find Angel Carol and Carol of the children -- you will love them.
Love this wonderful piece. The faces of the boys in the choir are so sweet! All scrubbed up to sing for the Sovereign. The Wedding music was very well chosen. Loved to see the beautiful couple saying their vows, perfect day for all of us.
Though life is filled with happiness and sadness, this song remind us that , there is a day for all of us that we will rejoice. Blessed be the name of the Holy God. Thanks for Westminster Abbey Choir for this beautiful song.
Brit Barrows i absolutely adore John Rutter's music. His choral works have always been some of my favorites to sing, the way the soprano line just floats above the other voices, and the perfect balance of all voices combined :). A musical genius
John Rutter is an amazing composer of our modern era... This song is beautiful and utterly charming... It is among my favourites now along with his Christmas song... Simply wonderful... Congratulations once more to their Royal Highnesses Prince william and Catherine Duke and Duchess of Cambridge... A long and happy life to you both... :0)x
WOW. Absolutely amazing. I thought the most beautiful moments of the song came at the harmonies at these points: 1) 0:47 "rejoice and be glad in it.." 2) 1:16, "..praise him all ye stars and light" 3) 3:31 "he shall defend thee" I could listen to this on repeat forever. I would love for choirs everywhere to learn an arrangement of this!
His arrangements are always stunning. We sang his arrangement of "For the Beauty of the Earth" when I was in high school and it was always a favorite of our chorus. Rutter never disappoints!
@dolphins1298 these children go to special music schools. the kids in white go to 1, the kids in red to another. but both emphasize music. the Westminster Abbey Choir children perform 6 days a week at regular services, and the Chapel Royal Choir kids also perform, but at 2 different churches.
I have just listened to John Rutters 'Candlelight Carol' again, even though it's obviously NOT Christmas... But his works truly are AMAZING and make me cry with their simplistic beauty... *sighs* :0)x
I'm so glad this was chosen for the Royal Wedding! I doubt I would have been exposed to it if it hadn't. It's become one of my favorite songs for my personal worship. I love the use of scripture. Just beautiful.
As with most of John Rutter's music, I often think it's not quite going to work, at first, but when I come to know it, it all flows perfectly. This piece is exquisite, and I hope I get a chance to sing it with my choir.
In love with this piece. Bought the cd of the royal wedding just to have this song but I like that I can watch it on video anywhere. Truly this is the day that the Lord has made and I shall be glad ☺️
Singing and directing John Rutter's compositions is an absolute delight! Bravo! Bravo! This is by far one of John's best works. Listening with awe!! Marvelous!!
After Silence, That which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is Music... From the very first beautiful wave of music that passes to the last, once again John Rutter shows his amazing talent. Wonderful Choir, Wonderful occasion and in the most Wonderful building.......In the House of The Lord.
This piece like most of the works of J. Rutter has such a moving profound effect on how I behold the world around me. I think that's really beautiful that the piece has inspired you in this way. I wish the best for you and that you may recover soon.
@4:31 - I know nothing about music, or conducting, but that subtle gesture, the sopranos (?) coming in half a beat after the tenors etc...the whole thing sublime
Ohhh how I love and adore this song!!! So so great. Thank you from deep of my heart for this video. I have bought already the song in iTunes. Bless you!!!
From America,Nice to see our white anglo/saxon brothers in the faith worshiping our Christian God Jesus Christ.British is two hebrew words put togeather Brit means covenant and ish means man --Anglo/Saxon israel the true israel of today romans 9:7
Amidst this soul-uplifting piece, I must add that I was rather touched by Lord Chancellor Kenneth Clarke's evident sensitivity as the camera picked him out - a veteran British politician of immense stature, integrity and humanity.
Lot of previous posts regarding this if you read back. They are the Boy Choristers of the Chapels Royal, The Gentlemen-in-Ordinary (Adult singers) from the Chapels Royal are the ones with the white bow ties. All the others are the Choir of Westminster Abbey.
@michaelgc53 I think John Rutter would be the first to agree with your sentiments (albeit expressed in a way I'd not) as to his stature when compared with the Pantheon of humanity's greatest composers. He's emphatically not "second-rate" however. In terms of musical communication, he can strike heart and mind like a thunderbolt, as he did here. Moreover, his music appeals to "ordinary" people whose experience of "classical" music might have been limited, or even hostile. That's a true musician.
Nice :) I notice it's available on spotify too with even better audio quality. I'm not a religious guy, nor a royalist, but I like moving music, so I like this :)
In response…still here in 2024. I love the remarks about this song, that people have left. I love that the queen commissioned this…beautiful.

Man, this is not from here, this was made for angels, i want this at my wedding!
Isn't it just breathtakingly beautiful?
John Rutter chose the most appropriate scriptures to marry with his heavenly music. Absolutely glorious.
Brit Barrows i absolutely adore John Rutter's music. His choral works have always been some of my favorites to sing, the way the soprano line just floats above the other voices, and the perfect balance of all voices combined :). A musical genius

Amen to that!!!
10 years after your comment and he hasn’t been dubbed one...shame
On those days when it’s hard to get out of bed. I always repeat this verse. Love to hear it composed in this music!
His arrangements are always stunning. We sang his arrangement of "For the Beauty of the Earth" when I was in high school and it was always a favorite of our chorus. Rutter never disappoints!

He who sings well prays twice
This had me in tears. Me, no fan of the Royal family or pomp & ceremony. But this was stunning, and I still get emotional when I hear it.
Thank you for sharing! This was my favorite part of the ceremony.
John Rudder is a brilliant composer! This anthem also means so much to me and my family both living and in memory of the deceased.
You have to go a long way to find music that comes close to tghat of John Rutter. Terrific Music.
Very nice work from the choirboys and the tenors, bass and alto`s. A great piece of music set to words by John Rutter.

Absolutely Beautiful . . . .

So much better than that circus at Windsor the 19th May 2018. This is how it should be done....
