Better first half. Nonsense. We were good up to 13 mins when we scored, and then we had nothing. Perplexed how we can be favourites on a performance like that. Against other good teams, we are on our way home. Talented players individually, but collectively awful.
The problem is, we go 1-0 up...and the other team adjusts, and then we don't counter the opposition adjustments. For example, Saka terrorised down the right. Walker went at them too. But Foden was invisible after 35 minutes. For me, half-time would have been the time to change for someone exposive like Eze down the left to knock the Serbs off at the start of the second half. We need to constantly unsettle other teams and we have the options on the bench to do that. To me, it seems we have a tendency to stick with the initial plan a tad bit too long (playing it safe) and this may not be to our advantage. And could very well prove fatal. We are genuinely threatening when we GO AFTER other teams like a rabid attack animal. And we need to be more ruthless in killing off games and sometimes that will require changing up the squad earlier than later. It's the first game. We have 3 points on the board and that's the most important thing. The England job is such a difficult one. In the Iceland game, some fans criticised Gordon and now they want Gordon to start or come on. Not many people would've gone with Bowen coming on for Saka but Bowen did really well when he came on. People called for TAA but that didn't go as well as hoped. I would've brought Eze on for Foden and Kane off for Watkins. We needed to make changes earlier. We all have an opinion. The main thing is like I said we won and we have that foundation and confidence to build upon. Southgate is our manager for now so let's do our best to get behind him.
