England entered this game thinking they’d absolutely destroy Serbia. Boy were they wrong. In second half England looked tired and nervous. Serbia looked solid and honestly I thought they would equalize. It was close.
It's Southgate. His whole tactic has always been to score one goal, pass it around at the back and hold on for a possible win. It's horrible tactics and management.

I was expecting us to struggle and for them to be much harder to play than we expected but the same team didn't win a single match in Qatar.

We got lucky that Serbia don't have proper finishers. We lost the midfield in the second half and gave away too much possession in our own half. Any of the other top 6 or 8 countries will capitalise on that. We won't get past the quarter finals, maybe not even the 16 if we get a poor draw, if we don't change that second half performance.
Playing like that England have absolutely no chance of winning this tournament..None ! The moment the opposition get the ball , England need to get the ball back as if their lives depended on it. England started well but gradually ended up hovering around and Southgate should have changed it sooner. Although Bowen did well when he was in the game, its crazy that Cole Palmer was left in the bench with the numbers that he had this season. TAA in midfield is a nice audible but it should not be a main strategy. Similar to putting in a tall CB at the dying minutes to aim for a last gasp header. TAA can be effective but I believe the game needs to shift towards that demand instead of demanding TAA role in midfield from the start. Denmark and Slovenia are limited but similar to Serbia. They have 2 games to fix it.

3-0 is the new 1-0 against teams that most of their players play in top sides in Europe. How about introduce a rule that you can only pick players that play in the home country with an allowance of of 3 that do not play in your country.

Better first half. Nonsense. We were good up to 13 mins when we scored, and then we had nothing. Perplexed how we can be favourites on a performance like that. Against other good teams, we are on our way home. Talented players individually, but collectively awful.

The problem is, we go 1-0 up...and the other team adjusts, and then we don't counter the opposition adjustments.
For example, Saka terrorised down the right. Walker went at them too. But Foden was invisible after 35 minutes. For me, half-time would have been the time to change for someone exposive like Eze down the left to knock the Serbs off at the start of the second half.
We need to constantly unsettle other teams and we have the options on the bench to do that.
To me, it seems we have a tendency to stick with the initial plan a tad bit too long (playing it safe) and this may not be to our advantage. And could very well prove fatal.
We are genuinely threatening when we GO AFTER other teams like a rabid attack animal. And we need to be more ruthless in killing off games and sometimes that will require changing up the squad earlier than later.
In any event, we got the result and i think we can build on it and I have by no means given up hope.

The England job is such a difficult one. In the Iceland game, some fans criticised Gordon and now they want Gordon to start or come on.
Not many people would've gone with Bowen coming on for Saka but Bowen did really well when he came on.
People called for TAA but that didn't go as well as hoped.
I would've brought Eze on for Foden and Kane off for Watkins. We needed to make changes earlier. We all have an opinion.
The main thing is like I said we won and we have that foundation and confidence to build upon.
Southgate is our manager for now so let's do our best to get behind him.
I think we need to play the best team and not the best players. We have to learn from those mistakes in the past.

Winning the game is good, but Southgate did not make the right subs in my opinion. Foden and Kane should have been taken off. If he does the same thing in the coming games, England will be coming home early.
Too much reliance on a LB coming back into the team, Shaw coming back is not going to solve everything. Foden needs to be moved into a 10 role Gordon on the left and Trent dropped to bench.

We are a shadow of what we were in the last tournement becasue we are reverting to type and the manager is picking carlton palmers again as aposed to the best players. Southgate does not know what a good player is. He was simply picking the man city squad and now they dont have any english players he does not know who to pick. Our second best player is Sterling. He's not even in the squad becasue he put his family over his team as was the right thing to do. Why do we have 2 unknown youngsters and an inured player and no Grealish who could have performed a very good job last night adding some abilty to hold the ball in high positions and draw fouls.

Looking at the last few games ,England have started to go backwards under Southgate. Everything goes in cycles and I think Southgate's is coming to an end. The last twenty minutes were a car crash and Serbia could have easily won that game. Southgate has done some excellent things with England but the clock is ticking down now. This will be his last tournament, hopefully.
Foden should be benched. Play Gordon on the left. Mainoo has showed he’s more than capable so he should be starting over Trent. Southgate too scared to make changes as usual
