So glad to see this upgrade. My company uses Ridgid tools and the R86240 this replaced is a complete joke. The on/off switch was notorious for jamming or becoming extremely hard to turn on/off and the variable speed dial would fail causing the rpm to randomly speed up and slow down while cutting. Ive mailed 5 or 6 R86240 for repairs all were those two specific issues. All less than 6 months old. One was a few days on when the on/off broke.

I have a cheap oscillating tool which I've never even used, but I think I'm going to give it to my step-son and get one of these. Today is December 9th, 2024, I just got this with 2 4ah batteries and charger, and a milwaukee blade assortment from my wife as an early Christmas gift, we had a small project at home that using this tool came in handy, my wife is always surprising me with her awesomeness 👍
This is a much better improvement over my R86240 model! My only real complaint is that the on/off switch is extremely hard to move on or off. It is so much of a pain that I bought the M12 Fuel oscillating tool to use as my primary. I would prefer the trigger setup like this one and no dial as well but that wasn’t a thing back then. This one is so much better so far!
Anxious to try this, I hot the plug in 120v one years back when it was launched and damn that thing vibrates, you feel everything with that old one. That much I bought special impact gloves with D30 padding to use with it and it was still miserable to use for extended time, your hands and wrists would turn red from the blood!
Would have been nice to see you attach the sanding clip as the mechanism for it seems ridiculous compared to something like the craftsman quick change system. You have to remove the sandpaper and reapply it every time you remove the sanding tip.
I got the R86240B back in 2022 and it looks like this has now replaced it on Home Depot's website since it now only shows the R86241B(brushed) and this new R86240B. I do like the new veritable speed trigger and digital speed selection (i would always hit the speed selector dial and go to 11 when I didn't to) I will say I'm not a fan of the blade holder part coming all the way out i did like how it was all 1 unit on the R86240B. Overall I'll still get this one to replace the older model and keep it as a backup since it still works just fine.
I bought a new one thru an auction and found out why it was in the auction! The dowel pin does not lock in and I can't see any way to repair it. I believe Ridgid will refuse to repair it because I did not buy thru Home Depot. The only reason I bought this one was to get a better blade changer. My old Ridgid has the STUPID slide out piece that sometimes does not engage blades. So far, I have not found anything online about possible fixes.
Love the video! That tool looks like the Ryobi multi tool PBLMT51. Can you review that if you can? I have used the older model of this tool. It broke after a year of use. That new tool looks a lot better. Thank you!

Would love to see how this behaves with the 1.5 or 2 ah (and 2 ah max output) to see if it still has enough beans to do the job while being as light as it can be. My only issue is that removable head for the blade which would've been better with the m12 fuel's design of threads at the end. I'd rather back off a few threads and slip the blade in vs that piece needing to be pulled out and possibly dropped over and over :) ~ Work Smart
@TOOL_TECHNICAL The way I see it, cut accuracy is the goal, noise and vibration are obstacles. The Bosck and Skl 12v are the worst I have tried in this regard, (wake the neighbors loud) while M12 and Ryobi are relatively painless (can use without protection sometimes) Noise is definitely a concern for me. Not sure where the Ridgid falls in that spectrum.
@@steveg7000 yeah i have the m12 fuel. not crazy vibration but definitely hope they decrease it in the future along with noise that thing is kinda loud in apartments lol. The ridgid's variable trigger helps the slow start to score and bite into your material. I personally like switches because I don't have to think about squeezing it while in an awkward tight spot. If my m12 fuel dies i'll probably grab the ridgid

I wish it had more than three speed settings, but the VS trigger is nice, and helps compensate. I know what you mean about the spindle, but it does not have to come all the way out. I pull it out just enough to get the blade in place. What I dont like is the blade mount base dos not line the blade up at 90 degrees to the tool. This doesn’t affect performance, but is an issue for me, owing to my OCD. 🙄 😆

Hey Travis. I picked one up as well with a BOGO deal. There is movement which they claim is normal and Ridgid claims it helps keep the vibration down. They ( TTI ) are making a lot of the tools in Vietnam, as opposed to China, which I like,to see, but the QC can vary it seems? When I install a blade, it is not perfectly straight (inline with the tool ) which is a minor thing, but still annoying. This doesn’t really affect performance, just an OCD issue. 🙄 😆 Hope that helps? Peace
My first tool lasted the project and I returned it and bought another. After a weekend tearing out a floor and other various things grease was running out the oscillating head and all the anti vibe pads had fallen out. It isn’t perfect but will do.
This model fits the hand nicely, and the VS trigger is a nice touch. I just wish they had put in more than three set speed settings, but the VS trigger helps here to some degree. It makes one wonder just what the engineers/ designers are thinking some times? 🙄

Just got mine. I am really impressed by the feel and finish of Ridgid right down to the batteries. Nothing feels cheap, its great.

Seems pretty noisy compared to the M12 or Ryobi HP although I am not sure if that was commented on. Hope you had ear protecrion.

I hated the ergonomics of the old one. The handle was much too thick and the unit itself felt heavy.
