  • Resin expert Mylene Hillam demonstrates how to work with EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy. She shows you the tools you'll need, what molds to use and how to prepare them, the double cup mixing technique for perfect blending, adding inclusions and colorants to the resin, pouring, demolding and shares project ideas. EasyCast is a two component, low odor, solvent free, clear casting epoxy that is ideal for casting small pieces such as jewelry and cabinet knobs. It can be colored with Castin' Craft pigments and dyes and is perfect for embedding objects.

      You can...but it won't do anything. This is 2-part resin which cures with time after mixing. UV resin is what you're looking for.

    Hi I have to mix this easy cast. I need maybe all of the 16oz just to be safe I have enough. You said I need to mix no more than 6oz at a time. So does that mean I can’t do 8oz and 8oz then transfer to second cups for double mix. Then finally pour them into the mold? In this scenario I would 4 mixing cups and 4 stir sticks?

    • @ETIVideo
      @ETIVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, it's recommended that you cast no more than 6 oz per cast.

    Hi, is it possible to fill the mold half way, let it cure for a bit, and add a second layer on top and fully cure? Or do you recommend a different Resin?

    • @ETIVideo
      @ETIVideo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can add another layer as you described. You'll want to make sure that the total pour is 6 ounces or less.

    Hi there! :) I'm new at this - I'm interested in using the EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy to set objects in a ~16oz glass container. Instead of using a mold, I was just going to pour my mix directly into the glass and place my objects using a stick. Do you know if it'll harden correctly in a glass container? It also says that it's designed for a max single cast of 6oz or less. If I mix it in 6oz increments, do I need to wait for it to dry before I add in another 6oz? If so, will the layers I poured it in show through like visible lines?

    • @ETIVideo
      @ETIVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you may pour EasyCast into a glass container. If you want to see the layers then you will wait for the previous layer to dry. If you do not want to see the layers you must simply wait for the previous layer to gel (which may take up to two hours) and then you would pour your next layer. If you are casting items into the glass container you want to wait for a layer to gel and place your items on that sticky surface before pouring the next layer.

    Does anyone know how I can make a black background over a clear resin. Which product should I use? I'm doing crushed opals in the clear part with a black background. Would appreciate any help with this.

    • @rebeccaa9257
      @rebeccaa9257 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know your comment is a year old but you could pour your clear resin with opals into your mold first. Then after a couple hours once the resin is set you can pour a thin layer of black resin on top. There is a black castin’ craft pigment you could use. You could also do this vice versa depending.

    hi! i am new to resin and i'm facing some issues which i hope you could help me with.
    i bought the exact same resin as the one shown (easycast clear casting resin) and i'm using plastic molds from EasyCast as well. the problem i face is that it is really hard (and sometimes, almost impossible) to remove my hardened resin from the plastic mold. when i first tried it, i managed to get some out (those turned out fine, except that the surface is a little matte though, not sure if that's supposed to happen), but one of it is still stuck.
    this was when i learnt about the mold release and decided to get a bottle (i also got another easycast plastic mold). i guess you could say i didn't let it dry fully before pouring in my resin mixture, but even so, i still cant get my resin out of the (new) plastic mold! it looks really easy in the video, but for some reason, i can't get mine to pop out like that.
    i've tried the EasyCast resin with regular silicone molds and it works really well; it just doesn't pop out easily whenever i used the plastic molds and i was hoping you could help me with this? with regard to the mixing, i've mixed it with the 1:1 ratio and stirred/mixed for 3 minutes. the only thing i didn't do is the double mixing.
    also, i was wondering, do you reuse your measuring cups? if you do, how do you clean the resin off the cups? i can't seem to clean them off entirely so i have to keep using new cups.
    sorry for the lengthy question but i really hope you could help me out. thanks in advance! :)

      Hello!
      When working with our polypropylene plastic molds the mold release and conditioner is necessary. First I gently shake the bottle before spraying my mold. I go through each cavity with my gloved hand to make certain it is coated. Then I tip it over on a protected surface to let any excess drip out while it dries. Once it is dry I repeat the process and let it dry overnight. Now I am ready to cast.
      Try putting the molds you have, with the cured pieces that will not release, into the freezer for about ten minutes or so. This may help them release, it’s worth a shot.
      Let me go through with you the recommended way to mix your EasyCast. I use two plastic disposable cups with a smooth wall and flat bottom and two tongue depressor style stir sticks. The cups have one ounce increments on the outside up to eight ounces. For your application mix no more than 6 ounces of EasyCast at once. Into cup #1 I add the resin to the 3 ounce line; then I add the hardener to the 6 ounce line. Now I know I have equal parts of each component in my first cup and I stir the two components together for two full minutes. Then I pour the partially mixed contents into my second clean cup and with a clean stick I stir again for another full minute. Now I am done stirring so I throw away cup #1 and both sticks. I am ready to pour from cup #2 which I then throw away. The double blend method is recommended to keep you from having sticky or soft casts due to the two components not being completely combined.

      I know this comment is old, but for future reference and anyone else asking this:
      When I bought mine, the hardener was already yellow. Keep in mind: the yellow is very noticeable because it's concentrated in the bottle.
      It should be diluted when mixed with the resin. The project will have a slightly yellow tint especially if clear, but mixing in pigments and dyes makes it less noticeable.

    • @Shari_A._
      @Shari_A._ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the box now states it will yellow over time. However, if you are adding color to make it opaque, this won't be a problem.

    How long is the pot time with using this easy cast? It does not say anywhere on any tutorials or any information I have gathered on the internet. I am getting an order in the mail today and still do not know. Also, it says it is clear. The seller told me in an email that it is not clear. It is an amber yellow color. Is hers old or is it not clear? Also, she said it does not harden as hard as most resin epoxies. Is this a soft cure resin epoxy? I know that is a lot of questions but I really do need some answers. Thanks

      Hello there, we are so sorry for the delay in this answer. We didn't have access to our TH-cam channel for over a year. It will yellow over time as all epoxies will. It does harden to hard cure... the time can vary based on depth of the pour, humidity and temperature. Again we're sorry it took so long for you to get an answer!

    • @ETIVideo
      @ETIVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, EasyCast will reach a "soft cure" after 24 hours under temps of 70-85 degrees F. At this point the material will mostly cured and no longer be tacky. However, in most applications it wouldn't be pliable. Can you describe your project a little more and we can give a more definitive answer?

    • @ETIVideo
      @ETIVideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're casting full pieces it's not very likely that you'll have much if any pliability after 24 hours. If you feel your mix isn't blended well enough after two minutes go ahead and mix a minute or so longer.

    I wish I had found your tutorial BEFORE I used the stuff because the extra stir time isn't indicated anywhere in the instructions.
    With that being said, I won't be using Easy Cast (which isn't cheap to begin with) ever again, since even after following the directions & doing everything to the letter my objects still haven't cured. I poured the stuff over 2 wks ago. The molds I used must now be replaced since I can't even remove the resin from them.
