I really like Utah's approach and charges on DUI - especially the multiplier when more than one child is in the car. That is something every state needs!
Tougher DUI laws with harsher consequences is what stopped most people and family I know from driving after drinking back in 1980s. Some of those people grew up in 50s & 60s having "one for the road", but that practice (and saying) slowly stopped being popular during 1970s. There was a lot fewer people driving back then and far-far more drunk driving accidents then compared to today. Got to rachet up the consequences under the laws and make sure judges don't just let them off on yet another cheap signature bond. (imo)
This video popped up in my feed! So glad! Excellent. I wish all states would treat drunk driving as an actual CRIME; rather than a "don't worry about it; its just a traffic ticket" attitude. Thank you LEO's!!!
I just came across this video, and I like it. I try to learn something from these types of videos. I am 75 years old, and I did learn something from this one. Thank you, and keep up the good work.
Could you please do an episode to educate drivers about double white line? The other night this lady decided to switch lanes from HOV lane to #1 lane and crashed into me. She fled the scene
I enjoy these videos keep them coming and I hope you get more subscribers soon as the content is as good as other similar police departments that do this!
Love how she tried to say I was just going to pull off the freeway, yeah, no you were going to run, there should be no reason for you to leave the sight of the car ya hit and if you can pull over in the emergency lane do so and then talk to the other driver and agree to pull off somewhere ya don't just take off because the person you hit has no clue where your going.
Great video! While it’s true that all U.S. states have Move Over laws, the specifics can vary dramatically between states. For example, some require slowing down to a specific speed if unable to move over, while others just say ‘safe speed.’ so can understand if out of town drivers might not know specifically. I guess the reality it's true in all states in multi Lane highway you need to get over though if safe.
Across the county used to be higher than .08, Utah went down to .08 and the other states followed suit. Utah recently went down to .05 and there’s talk that most other states will also follow. Studies show most people are too impaired even at .05,
Maybe they need to put up some bill boards along the freeway telling people that it's the law to move over. To many people aren't moving over. Just might help our first responders.👍💙
It wouldn’t make a difference just like we have signs all over the highway saying slow traffic move over to the right and people still don’t do it anyway
Just to think she probably would’ve gotten away with it if she wouldn’t of tried to be dishonest and flee the scene because both parties would analyze the damage and realize it wasn’t that bad and go their separate ways.
Utah is the only state that’s lower than .08. Drivers in all states can still be arrested for a DUI, or the equivalent, even if they blow a BAC lower than the legal limit.
Drinking and driving, I can see how some people may alibi it in their minds. Cognitive dissonance is strong. But drinking and then driving with your child in the car should give anyone a second to pause and think. Very sad for the child.
Did the Mercedes in the last accident end up leaving before Field Sobriety Tests were performed? Or did they end up report the crash? Enjoying the the informative content!👍👍
Thank you for taking another drunk off the road. I despise impaired drivers, and to drive drunk with a child in the car means she is a terrible mother.
Haha I bet he doesn't even know he's saying it. A lot of people have their "saying". My wife's is when she calls anyone non friend on the phone she'll start the convo with "hi um yes...."
Why show the suspect the PBT number? It’s going to discourage a person to blow back at the barracks when they know they’re over. Gonna get a ton more refusals that way, just weakens your case without that breath score.
@@triciac1019 Its possible they can request but afaik its more for non-alcohol impairment. Not to worry because refusing breathalyzer will result in automatic suspension of driver’s license and no longer able to drive for up to 18 months. 2nd time you get pulled over and refuse the suspension doubles (3 years). Also you can not get a provisional license during that suspension, after you will be required to install ignition interlock device on your vehicle & can't drive others vehicles.
I still don't understand why there are these "Standardised Sobriety Tests " . They are not definitive, just giving reasons to arrest " on suspicion of " and the definitive test takes place at he station. This beiong the case, why noyt use a hand-held breathalyser at stage 1 like so amny other countries and save lots of time/aggravation?
To all you people. If a officer asks you where you are going, coming from where you work etc. Do not answer those questions it's none of their business and you don't legally have to answer those questions.
When the police ask how many drinks you’ve had and when the only answer should be I don’t answer questions without my lawyer present. You just gave them an admission to having alcohol. They cannot prove in court that your breath smelled a certain way. The only thing they can prove if you’re silent is your BAC. You should also always reject the field sobriety. If you get a dui you will end up with a suspended license anyways.
@ according to the law you can blow a zero but have your adderal from the morning come back in your blood/urnine test and they will get you for that. I’m not saying Utah will do this. But Wisconsin more importantly Milwaukee police will say you were driving erratically. Make you do field sobriety. Claim you did bad. Then have you blow a zero and then charge you with DUI because you had prescriptions in your blood that can cause impairment. They don’t need to prove you were impaired anymore. Just that you had impairing substances in your system. Zero tolerance policy for Controlled substances in blood.
Will you be posting retractions if/when any of these people are found to be sober? It's all over the news how y'all arrest sober drivers all the time because you're liars.

@zarz3049 true. Warnings don't always work.. but it gets noted and if they do it again then they end up getting the full offense. I thought the same thing
Yeah, if only cops were honest. They arrest sober people for dui all the time. It gets them grant money from MADD to have high numbers of arrests.

Outstanding DUI laws! Wow. It's a good start. Poor kid but hopefully a lesson learned.

Don't forget the single solid whites lines as well which everyone is clueless about.
Wow! Seems like you are OK, which is good. But that could have been much worse.
Could also use an episode on traveling in the passing lane and forcing people to pass on the right.

Utah has it right with that multiplier you will pay dearly for a bad decision.

Interesting to know that Utah's legal BAC limit is lower than most places around the country... most places are .08 but Utah is.05? Interesting...
If Utah is 0.5 same here in Australia

It really should be .0. Just don't drive at all if you have had a drink. I like zero tolerance on this one. Too many lost family members to alcohol!
Im not sure how Danielle didn't know that. It is part of your driving test to know that information..
Good info !!
0:20 that's what I see from my living room window.
Should have gotten child endangerment charges on that. Amazing how stupid people are.

have watched a few of these and was wondering why the Troopers don't wear any uniform hat ?

Utah has a lower limit than the rest of the States.

Thank the Mormons
To increase the ABV limit of alcohol sold in non state liquor stores the tradeoff was to reduce the legal limit to .05 bac
The biggest risk to UHP is getting hit by a car on the roadside, watch out and move over people
Don’t drink and drive..have a plan B ..
Don't talk to cops and don't do field sobriety tests.
Yeah. Real quick, real fast. Interesting DUI enhancements.
