So I have this delema..I plan to retire in a few years but lived in the US most of my life. I visited Pi and enjoyed both province and City life. I do enjoy the city but not the prices. However I enjoy the province but get bored out of my mind at times. Do you have any suggestions? I have no budget however, I'm not looking for a baller lifestyle either and wanting to enjoy. I thought about living in Manila but thats like paying for US prices ..Vice versa w province yet boredom. Thoughts ???

@@markmene1975 I suggest you check out Iloilo which has a city and provincial environment. But my best advice is that you live just outside of Manila, places like Batangas or Cavite. That way you can visit the city anytime you like while paying provincial prices.

Awesome! It’s always nice when the ancestors do right with their money therefor leaving generational wealth/assets to the family. Much better than those who squander their fortunes to vices and poor decisions. All of our financial decisions today include the thought of passing on wealth and assets to our kids and grandkids should they deserve it.

Don't worry about future generations, historically speaking generational wealth is lost by the third generation. Even if you work hard and make smart financial decisions, your descendents won't and they will squander your fortune. Best to spend it while you are alive on the family and close friends who is with you now; they deserve it more than your descendents will.

My mom built a similar home in our province of Tarlac. My cousins helped her build it, but beware typical construction labor will cost anywhere from 35% to over 50% of the straight material costs. Truth be told materials such as hollow blocks, cement, sand, gravel, rebar, roofing materials are fairly cheap. The major expenses are the windows, tiles, doors and other things in that category.
I built a small 2 bedroom home in the Visayas for about 7k usd, but once I move back to the Philippines in the future I am looking to buy a house or condo in Manila. Splitting my time between the provinces and Manila. Ingat po kayong lahat.

      It's along Tayabas-Lucban Road.
Great place, great food, great memories

60K US in 2007 is much more now, especially since inflation due to Covid. I just built a 1 story (very) small 3 BR in Mindanao and it cost about $46,000 US. (We also had family builders, so the labor cost was lower than it would have been). The house is earthquake ready with a dug, concrete-steel foundation and structure throughout, but has no closets and two of the bedrooms are like large closets in the US. The cost included a steel gate and a concrete wall around most of the house and property.

Your family has a beautiful home. During WWII my father and his brothers fought against the Japanese. His sisters hid in the jungle till the end of the war. My mother shared stories of she witnessed the Japanese throwing babies up in the air while being stabbed by their Bayonets And the Japanese torturing the US and Filipino army during the march to Bataan.

I am an American expat living with my Pinay wife in a townhouse (we own it) in Cavite province. We are upper-middle class, as per your other video. We would like to build a house that is not attached to other houses when we can, so this video is a big help.
One question - judging from your beautiful house, you must be considered rich. What security measures do you take to keep people from coming in and for kicks and taking what they want to take?

Expats are not able to buy land in the Philippines. They can buy a condo in some cases where the ownership of the condo is 60% nationals.

It’s the purchasing of the plot of land that is tricky and can be more costly. Plus, is it still true that foreigners can’t buy land there?

  • @MrRafa52

One big, big, issue foreigners are not allowed to buy land in the Philippines. So without land cannot build!

We can build, but either the land is co owned by a Filipino, or leased. We can lose what ever we build on co owned land though. Risky.
