I'm learning from your video more then I'ved learned during my 4 weeks nail tech course. Thank you Liz, thank you, thank you, thank you. I love you, and also love your voice, you're an angel!
I am a DIYer and have been absolutely loving all of your videos!!! I 1000000% appreciate every detail you provide in every video. While I do not plan to go pro, I am excited to strive towards perfecting my at-home craft!
It is an emergency! You need a video about hygiene, how to avoid cross contamination and how to keep the tools disinfected, including the drill bits ... you would be the first to have such a video on TH-cam, specially now that you are doing this entire series.... 😘😘
Just wanted to add to the comment she made about boiling water and brushes. When she mentions this, I do believe she meant to state that when you use the boiling water to fix the bristles on your brushes, be sure to ONLY use the boiling water on the bristles. Do not put your entire brush into boiling water. If you do the glue that holds the bristles in place will liquify and the brush will fall apart. Sounds like common sense but I made this mistake once and I was so upset. Just trying to save someone some money. Great video very informative. Xos
I can't even begin to tell you how terrific you are. Thank you so much for not only sharing your knowledge, but for teaching SO effectively. I am self taught born out of pure interest and have so appreciated this series. Again, thank you!
Another great video in this series! I applaud you for stressing the warnings of not allowing uncured gel /monomer to touch skin. People don’t understand how critical this is in order to avoid allergies. I’m one of those techs who now suffers from contact dermatitis. I thought I was doing everything right. Never was it stressed in all my many courses how dangerous it can be to not exercise caution. I’d love to see you address this in a practical way. How can someone like me continue to work without further damage. I double glove, wipe everything down, wear an apron, mask etc. it’s not about stopping to use nail products but rather how to safely protect ourselves and clients so that we create beautiful nails in the safest way possible. In my opinion, these measures need to be taught & reinforced as part of every nail curriculum/workshops😍
I actually love you!!! Ha. Ive been binge watching this series when ive had the chance, and your knowledge and way of explaining things is so eloquent and refreshing.
Glad to have found your channel. Some place I can finally get my nail geek on. Tired of fluff videos. I have been a manicurist for 30+ years and things have changed ALOT over the years. The industry has become much cleaner and products are far better. Its about time gels are finally getting more love.
YOU ARE AN AMAZING. You are very thorough in your explanation. You have been able to clear up a lot of mistakes I had been making for years. THANK YOU for making this tutorial available to the public.
What a great idea to mark your brushes by color coding them. Thats smart and something I never would have thought about doing. Thank you so much for the tips and advice!
I realize this is a very old video -- 5 yrs is practically an eon, in internet terms -- but it was helpful for this gel newbie! Also -- and I know this is completely off-topic, since the topic is nails and brushes for them, but I think it every single time I watch one of your videos, whether old or new -- but you have the most perfect eyebrows I think I've ever seen. Eyebrows are kind of a "thing" to me, which is just one reason I love Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton, their eyebrows are absolute geniuses; eyebrows are just something I always notice. I wish I hadn't grown up in the 70s, when we wore very thin eyebrows, and now mine just can't recover from all that merciless plucking.
Thank you so much for the information- I’m a total novice and want to start by building good practice even though I only intend doing my own nails. Your advice and guidance is invaluable.
I think you need more brushes. Lol. All great info once again. I see so many people working with gel and wiping excess with bare fingers instead of wearing gloves or using something else to wipe. I have heard that allergies to gel products are alarmingly on the rise. I wouldn’t want to see the feds take away our access to these lovely things. So, I’m careful, even though I only do my own nails. And I tell others to be so as well. Thanks!
hi liz love you videos. your so informative.. i am a tech by trade but a artist painter by hobby.. with that said the tip of all brushes is call the toe and if its flat its the chisel and then the belly and the part that meets the metal(ferrule) is the heal thank you again for all your help
I could listen/learn from you all day☺. As for the boiling water to reactivate the bristles, is that applicable to both the natural and synthetic ones? Thank you again for the video 😀.
Thank you for these videos. Great refresher course, I’ve been out of gel for a long time (10-15 years) I trained as a professional Nail Tech and let my license lapse. The gel products have changed for the better in all these years; been wearing gel since the beginning of 2018 and love seeing all the new info and products. I am a true gel convert from acrylic, your info is so great as a refresher and for new people wanting to know about gel. Can’t wait to see all what you cover in this series.
not sure where i heard or watched or seen ... i heard that its best to keep multiple brushes clear, color, glitter ... it gets crazy having to get them all out some of my clients go why you have 10 brushes out lol and then i have to explain why ... i like to have a flat and round and brushes just for toes ... so crazy and i so need to order kokoist from you need to try them out heard they are good ... great video
WOW! Really impressed with this video! You were very informative, complete and pleasant to listen to! Thank you so much. I did acryics for 15 years and gel when it first came out decades ago. But am starting over. You helped a ton! I just want to do gel on my own and am trying to learn what I need to and get some cheap stuff to try and see if I like it. Thanks! Really good video!
Knowledge is power 💪🏼 thank you for the very informative video!! Brushes are one of the biggest assets we have when it comes to gel nails, and proper care will definitely protect our investment. Thank you for also emphasizing on keeping our skin safe from chemicals, and of course our clients, especially since many don’t realize that allergies can develop over time due to overexposure.
Liz-your videos are wonderful! Professional, organized, interesting, creative, informative, analytical & smart...I could watch them all day:)...and I'm not even a nail tech, I'm a sonographer. I just like to do my own nails at home the right way;)
This channel is amazing fun to watch and educational, Liz is a genius. I recently took up watercolor painting so I've been researching brushes and I'm obsessed, so this video makes me extra happy.
Thank you for this video! I've destroyed 2 brushes just cleaning them. XX I also have moulds of my own hands to practice. I have 3 and I love them..... You can glue tips on them and they stay strong enough to file as well then you can just peel them off.
Thank you so much for the education. I have always done my own nails and your clear concise information delivery is fantastic. I wish I could buy product from your web site but....I am not a professional. Thanks Liz.
Hi, maybe I missed it, but kept going back over your great tutorial, but I cant figure out what size brush to look for, Im thinking #6 flat oval? but I want to make sure, I really like the brush in the middle at aprx 4:52 into the video. Its the synthetic in the middle and of course I love the natural one on far left too. Can you tell me what sizes those are? thank you again for all the great work
Translation for painters: cats tongue brush is a #4 filbert, striper brush is liner brush, clear gel is soft gel glossy, synthetic brush is gold taklon, kolinski brush is sable, basecoat or foundation is gesso, slip layer is ground cover, top coat is varnish, working with gel enhancements would be to oil paint as working with acrylic enhancements is to acrylic paint. 😎
Reviewing your videos in order and I had a question. I only do nails on me once but mostly training hands. I use cheap, polygel. (Makartt) and I use their brush to start. I’m going to assume it’s synthetic. They don’t come with slip solution and recommend alcohol. (Percentage is never really stated.) Because I’m using cheap brush and alcohol the brush may not last long with how I’m doing things. What affordable brushes do you recommend for polygel, builder gel, and for basic painting the whole nail with gel color? My price point is more than wish or AliExpress, but not $30+ for a single brush for just me.
Thank you!!! I'm brand new to nails and bought some jelly nail supplies and it was pots of gel and I wasn't sure what to do but this was so great! Thank you for all the great information
Great video! Thank you for helping me to understand why there is gel on the outside of my containers...it probably traveled there after I didn't properly break the strings. Now i'm struggling to keep it from getting back on the outside of the bottle even after i clean it with alcohol. :(
BRILLIANT!!! Thank you for all your videos. You are an inspiration in paying it forward in our professional industry! I enjoy learning from you. Sharon in Orlando, Fl
Great video, Liz!! I love brushes with caps!! I've been replacing all my brushes with ones that have caps. Does your online store sell to diy? I find most online stores that one has to be a licensed tech in order to buy products from them.
You are VERY informative and informed. I do thank you for this valuable information. You are also very soothing/monotone. I fall asleep to all of your videos. To maximize your audience and reach make shorter more targeted videos. Like a brush series: Cleaning, Synthetics, Natural, Best for Acrylics, Best for Designs etc. It’s much easier to retain shorter bursts of information targeted to specific needs.
Great you brought that up! A busy life with kids, work and school, on top of having adult ADD, it would be my absolute preference to watch a shorter video. Especially when I need to hear something again - it would be a little easier to rewind and quickly find it😊 However, like you, I find that her thoroughness, professionalism, combined with a soothing tone, is what draws me to her videos....perfect for easy listening when you have the time❤️ She's wonderful🤗
Thank-you so much for this helpful (as always) video lesson. Questions: I use a few different brands of gel; they are all HEMA monomer free, but potentially still have formula differences. Do I need to get clear gel in the same brand as the gels that I'm using? And if I'm not cleaning my brushes with cleanser after each use, do I need different brushes for the different brands of gel that I use? I'm wondering if the residual gel on my brush will be enough of a formula compatibility risk if I'm using another gel brand than the one that I used previously?
You're a fantastic instructor. I am on a journey to learn everything I can about everything nail related. And right now I'm beginning to start gel art even though I bought a inexpensive set of gels this is just the beginning but my thing is I want to know what each brush is because the tutorials that I've watched act like they're all the same because they've never learned. So thank you oh and the word for "glidey" is viscous and I also can't wait to learn about viscosity of different gels.
So informative! I'm currently doing a nail technician course and your videos have saved me! So excited to watch all your videos! I have a question, I do nail art using regular nail polish and acrylic paint for any details and drawing. Can I use acrylic paint over a gel polish or color? And then put a gel top coat and cure? Or is it recommended to use gel paints for nail art? I'm just a bit nervous using gel paint for my nail art because I have never done it it before! Thank you! :)
I absolutely noticed right away when playing with gel that the Clear is definitely different then like any of the colored girls for sure. It’s different in texture the way it cures the way it files everything for sure!😉👌🏼
Loving your videos. Very helpful for me. I use bottled gel polish at home and was wondering what brush you would recommend for nail painting with bottled gel polishes? I find the nail polish bottles brushes are so small and so hard to work with for me.
Hi Liz I just started watching your videos, and I’m learning so much in a short amount of time. I’m starting Manufacturing school in 2 weeks, so I’m trying to get a head start. My question is..why do you prefer gel vs acrylic?
Ty for this video. The info you taught me is going to make me feel like I have a chance to keep my new brushes and feel like I'm doing things right. 💅😁🤜🤛🥰
My mum is a (messy) oil painter. I’m a messy nail painter. Also💘calligraphy, so this is all starting to come together, 💡 and your videos make me determined to get this new hobby- perfect 💅🏻 Recently used elmers as a skin barrier, only for it to get wet and ruin everything. so much cat hair 🤷🏼♀️🙇🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🙎🏼♀️
Hi, I recently purchased CND Velocity Nails, which brush do you recommend using to apply the product. I'm teaching myself how to apply tips and acrylics. Do you ever do videos on acrylics. Also, which base coat would you recommend. I notice after my nails dry, there not smooth. Thanks
Awsome video, , love all the little terms you used hahah bull doze and tick, tickle . It was very informative. I agree you need to do a hygiene and tool sterilazation video. I am looking forward to your next video. May I ask what colour do you have on your nails in this video? Also can we get the nail hub mat from your store?
The "hand" is such an awesome update from what we had available back in the day! My Nail Trainer is in a box somewhere collecting dust. I'm thinking about getting April's for displaying different nail art each week. What color did you get?
Hi Liz, when painting press-ons or nail tips I see people painting with the nail tip facing up (opposite of a client’s hand). Is there a reason for that?
Thank you so much, your video's as amazing, I have only use Acrylic and now learn as much as I can about Akzentz products. I would love to purchase April (the Hand) where can I find the link. Im in Australia hopefully they will allow her in. Many thanks Lorri
Oooo I love that mat. Mostly because it dont have a bunch of mess printed on it. Please tell me you sell them? Love you and your videos. You and Suzie from NCE are the absolute best.
Hi, your videos are amazing, I keep watching as I have only worked with Acrylic, now learning as much as I can about Akzentz products. I would love to purchase April ( The Hand), where can I find this link? Plus I'm in Australia. Many thanks Lorri
Hey Liz. How do you clean glitter gels from brushes? I wanted to get more Light Elegance glitter gels but I don't want to buy a new brush for each new color. And how do you keep chrome powders from getting in your topcoat? Thanks!
I am not a professional but I do my nails my self, on that way I safely son money I am was trying to buy set off brushes the you was teaching I really liked too by can you tell what a can do too by I am being washing all you video on TH-cam i don't have licenses

Great information! Question regarding the practice hand...how do you safety remove the glued on tips in order to add new ones? Tia!
Hi soak them in acetone until they come off. The acetone will eat the glue and the nail tips but does not affect the silicone hand.
