  • The Disappearance of the Yuba County Five: Things Aren't Right - Book Discussion
In this episode we are examining the Disappearance of the Yuba County Five. What happened to five people who were lost in the wilderness? How did their car end up 75 miles off course? This is a book discussion on Tony Wright's "Things Aren't Right."

The Yuba County Five is a case I’ve not heard people talk about in a while, so it’s great to hear you talk about it again Ned. It’s very unfortunate as we don’t know what exactly lead the five up the mountain since, they planned to head home after the basketball game, and then once they got up the mountain what made them get out of the car as well. People have said they got stuck in the snow, but then others have pointed out how there wasn’t much snow when the car was found and that could be a clue that there wasn’t much snow where the car was when they all got out, but that’s just more speculation as we don’t know exactly why they went up the mountain and why they got out of the car. It would also be great if any of Gary’s remains were found at some point as the other four mens bodies and remains were found in the weeks and months after the initial search began, but so far nothing has been reported regarding an actual confirmation of Gary himself or any remains within the area of the trailer that could be looked at as being Gary’s. This is one of those cases that has a lot of questions and no real answers. Even the best educated guess and theories are just speculation with nothing to truly confirm what did or didn’t happen. Again, thank you for covering this Ned, I hope you’re doing well. Keep up the great work and take care!

I wonder if one or more of the boys experienced seizures or was diabetic. This might explain the panic or bad decisions

National forests and parks where people go missing without a trace all the time .There is something bizarre going on in these places

Did someone chase them up the mountain?

This is discounted because the car's undercarriage etc was flawless and had they driven at any speed there would be scuffle etc. HOWEVER, that's the point. If it turns out this claim by the police was BS then that changes a lot of things.

Why would those guys be allowed to travel unsupervised? I guess that's a different discussion.

Because 3/5 of them didn't really have any disabilities, by modern standards we might say they were stupid or slow but that's not a small % of the population, they were perfectly functional though they MIGHT make bad choices if push comes to shove but not these sorts of mistakes. Nothing adds up until the point where they decide to take the road where their fates are reasonably straight-foward.

It's obviously foul play. Does anyone know if Tony's book is getting an audio version?
