I run mine 10 mins a month to keep it working. Swap out the spark plug for a hotter copper or platinum plug. Duromax advised me to do so and it worked wonders. Starts first time every time.
Make sure that your Natural Gas supply is between 6-9 inches of water. Mine was right at 10 and my generator ran rich(rough). Turned it down to 8.5 and it runs great.
Try setting the choke to about 1/4 to half open. Sounds like the gas mixture is off causing the engine to hard start / hiccup. My small engine mechanic recommended that I should upgrade to a different tri fuel regulator so that I could adjust the gas mixture between propane and natural gas.
There is no throttle. The engine adjust to the electrical load. You can learn all about these generators on the Duromax TH-cam channel and there is also a good Facebook page with lots of great information.

What setting do you place the throttle at?

It takes four times because it has to pull natural gas or propane through your hose to your generator
