Great Job! Thank you for this video. I'm really a newbie to data analysis; also, I have an entry level knowledge of MS Excel. What do I need to focus on to be a data analyst. How long will it take me to really understand the data terms, start cleaning data, and developing dashboards? Thank you once more.

Load all tabs with data to power Query, pre-process the data, and save as connection-only
    2. Create the Data Model
    3. Using the connection-only query as a reference:
    a. Create a calculated field called "Actual Balance" and apply new customer discounts
» What is the total balance now? What is the average and median of the "actual balances" owed
    b. Using the Statistics function, what is the highest amount owed
    c. Split the account ID column by # of characters/by positions; how many Regular, High Risk, Government Affiliate and Premium customers does the company have, respectively? & Show balances owed in each category
    d. Identify customers that bought additional licenses during the period and for which products
    e. How much in total did the company lose as discounts during this period?
    4. Describe the four steps in data preprocessing and explain how/if they apply with the practice data set you are working with.
    5. Present your answers in a Microsoft Word document with Screenshots of all your tables, queries and data model.

Great training. I am looking forward to building my model. You have answered many of my challenges going in. Now I will be looking for your training that will allow me to do everything and stay in Excel (How to create DAX formulas without going into Power BI Desktop first as an example). I suspect I will be signing up for some of your more detailed classes soon.

From what I understand you can use Microsoft Whiteboard and make it transparent, then add Microsoft Whiteboard to OBS Studio (this is a free open-source software) or other video software then you should be able to write on Microsoft Whiteboard on screen where ever you want. May be with Excel on screen, but whatever.

All of these videos on Power BI and Power Pivot are great. But I cannot find a good solution to the following question: What if in Get Data From Folder, after a period of time the format of the source file changes. There is a need for a new column to be added, for example. If we remove a column, that could critically impact downstream calculations already done in Pivot or BI. But are there specific routines to be followed when the source file format changes? I see no videos or articles on this.

I have a doubt, Why would we clean up and import data in excel power query etc, when we can do the same in power bi?

    • @Jonathon_Silva
      @Jonathon_Silva ปีที่แล้ว +2

This is providing another option to using Power Query, because, you are correct, it is precisely how we could also do it in Power BI. It would be completely dependent on the journey you are looking to take with the report - for me, I like to have the end goals/ visuals in mind and if its simply to produce a PivotTable, staying in Excel would be the way to go.

@@desktopdatacrunching4032 Of course I unzipped it. If had not, I would not even be able to see the folders. I just realized, I CAN see the files in file explorer. It is excel power query that cannot see them. WTF?

@@KingCAMBO Hi, maybe you could try changing the folder name from "Bridging Your Skills from Excel to Power BI" to simpler and shorter name like "Tutorial", it works for me. Because what I found is that the file path is too long and microsoft is unable to read file path more than 256 path name.
Based on google, Microsoft Windows has a MAX_PATH limit of ~256 characters
