Received my new Cartier Santos (large model w/date) today. The bracelet has been described as Rolex & Audemars Piguet quality. I heartily agree. It’s substantive.
The fit and finish on this timepiece can only be described as “haute joaillerie”. It’s fluid and elegant.
The 2020 version has an upgraded deployment buckle with a spring loaded quick release built into it.
The leather strap is now custom fitted at the “C” end of the buckle. It’s finished with a built in quick release spring bar. It’s a much more tailored approach than having to pull the strap under the buckle on both sides.
Listening to the MC 1847 movement, while I wound it, revealed a quality resonance. This in house 23 jewel movement is much improved over the ETA 2894 in my Cartier Roadster. Though power reserve remains at 42 hours.
Cartier goes high tech by using a QR Code allowing its customer to quickly scan and register the watch for its eight year warranty.
    Yes, 8 Years!

I think you were installing the bracelet on the wrong side. If you look at the end link it says "12H" or "6H" to tell you that side goes to the 12 o'clock side or 6 o'clock side.

If you can afford this watch you can afford the Cartier straps, if you find them too expensive to buy you probably should not be buying this watch. And if the straps are flush to the face well perhaps thats got something to do with it being a square watch.

Just bought mine two days ago. Cartier boutiques offer the tan/camel one stock AND a complimentary strap of your choosing that fit the Santos. There is about 8 straps to choose from. Pretty cool! I got the darker brown....not too keen on the stock camel/tan color.

Nice video - thanks! I’ve read on a number of forums that this watch is a “scratch magnet”. What are your views? I imagine the polished bezel does scratch easily but is that also the case for the rest of the case and the metal bracelet? Thank you!

If scratches are going to bug you stay away from watches, or buy a ceramic Rado or, at a minimum, a brushed steel watch. Anything polished will scratch if you breathe on it.

First adopted on the Roadster models. Found it a novel quick way to change from bracelet to strap. Big con was you could only buy Cartier straps and the strap locking mechanism at end tended to brake off from the strap itself. A few occasions the bracelet could even come free of locking mechanism as well. But otherwise great idea. Informative clear video as well and nice watch. Congrats.

Say you kept the watch in good condition for more than ten or twenty years. Will Cartier still have a leather bracelet available for this model?
I mean spring bars maybe old fashioned, but it can be replaced with any type of straps, be it leather, nato, nylon, mesh and steel.
So the bracelet is one of my concerns. Sure it's easy to replace with the system, but you will only be limitied with the steel and leather option. And I guess buying another color from Cartier will cost a lot.

What i’m concerned about is that for the leather strap, the pinching mechanism keeping the strap ends on the underside will tend to slip as the leather breaks in. I had the same problem with my Oris ProPilot Air Racing and i’d wager the Oris clamping mechanism would be more robust that Cartier’s.
