Definitely being blown way out of its significance. The raised arm to the helmet garners the penalty. This is not the worst we have seen in a long time. Also, everyone should stop acting as if it is. A fine is understandable, but what demeco talked about should be considered. Stopping yourself off the ground in motion is quite difficult.
People need to stop bringing up late slides and fake slides inel regards to this situation; it's disrespectful to Trevor who did not slide late or attempt a fake slide. He clearly began sliding 5+ yard from Aziz and gave himself up. It was a dirty hit plain and simple
The rules have been changed and any movement looking like a slide....whether it happens or not....the ball is supposed to be dead at that spot. Are the refs enforcing this rule? Regardless of everything else...throwing a braced forearm shiv to a guy's head is dirty thug play...period.
So we’re just gonna ignore the fact that he tried to elongate his slide motion so he could get 3 yards off of it and get the first down if he was so worried about taking a hit he should’ve got down right away instead he dragged out his slide trying to get an extra yard and he paid for it it’s that simple
Al-Shaair's blatant late hit rtargeted Lawrence's chin with his braced arm so the League suspended him and fans everywhere now know Al-Shaair is scum. It's that simple.
I understand where Demeco is coming from with late slides, but in this circumstance the defender went down to the slide level to hit him. That can only be accomplished by deliberately deciding to hit him in his slide. Chin SHOULD NOT have been flagged! Lamar was inbounds when the hit was made. If you don't want to get hit, then ACTUALLY go out of bounds!
Came here to say this. The fake / late slides are a loophole being attacked, and with any action comes a response. Now the D can’t necessarily buy the slide at first glance. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. With that being said, this hit was still dirty af. Not a fan of either team either. I know 31 nfl QBs that don’t need to take a step shorter than their stride to slide. Herbert even doesn’t and they’re the same height. Also don’t mention the kinda hip turn that Trevor did when he started to plant that leg. Also you have to guess as a defender. Meaning 5 yards apart is an average of a .6 second reaction time per player, so divide that in 2. So that’s .3 seconds. With Trevor taking a step shorter in his stride with a hip turn, that means you’d have to have 2 separate thoughts to change from “oh he’s gonna juke” to “oh he’s about to slide” meaning that’s a .15 reaction time. In other words, that’s basically the same reaction time as a baseball player being able to hit a 220mph baseball. Which is impossible. Come on now, it’s simple physics, I thought you’d be smarter than that
A big part of the problem is that the NFL has quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes that have essentially "embarrassed" defenders by making it look like he was going to slide, only to keep running and gaining extra yardage, sometimes a lot of extra yards. By having two sets of rules, one for QB's and another for everyone else, the NFL has created a mess. A lot of the QB's that are going into a slide, are not even doing it properly. Many of them are almost sitting up and landing on their knees. The defenders get all of the blame, while the quarterbacks can take advantage of the situation, only to have the defenders ridiculed by announcers and other players. If the NFL is going to have 2 sets of rules for different positions, it's going to have to sit down and teach the QB;s, like children, how to properly slide, and penalize them for "false sliding". Sounds ridiculous? So does having separate rules for tackling of different positions.
You are assuming that the NFL should treat all players equally. QBs are the NFL’s most valuable assets by far. Of course they want to protect them more than any other position.
@@jl3303 It didn't used to be this way, the owners created this situation and the NFLPA is partially to blame as well. Look at the salaries of some of these quarterbacks, they are taking up a huge percentage of the salary cap space. The salary cap is somewhere around $255 million and at least one QB is making $50 million a year. That's insane. The guy could have a non contact injury, and 20% of your cap is gone. We, the fans are the ones paying for it in the long run. Even with tv money and commercials, the businesses that run the commercials just pass their costs on to us, the consumer/fan. The NFL is headed for trouble unless they start making changes.
I agree. Plus QBs like Mahomes, Allen, Lamar Jackson, and numerous others are mobile running QBs. They because RBs beyond the line of scrimmage. The NFL also doesn't take into consideration the injury chances for the defensive player who tries to adjust in order to avoid penalties and to make a good tackle. Hamstrings, ligaments, and muscles csn be torn. This needs to be fixed.
@@jl3303 so what at the end of the day a definsiveplayer job is to stop the other team from getting the first down you cant just go out and tell them to not play as hard to try to protect there qb there job is to do the exact OPPOSITE. I’m all for eliminating the power of the qb slide but when it came to Azziz’s hit it seriously looked like he was trying to kill Trevor, WHILE HE WAS SLIDING. This suspension was necessary and hopefully other necessary rules will be put in place as well.
It could have easily went over top of him but chose to deliberately hit him. I agree late slides should be illegal because they increase the risk of a bad hit. But in this case, it was all on the defender. My two cents.
im with Joe Thomas. Quarterbacks should be flagged for fake/late slides and juking on the edge. scores made by faking a slide or juking within a yard of should be revoked. yards made after the fake/late slide and edge juke should be revoked. the ball should be marked down at the FIRST ATTEMPT of a juke and/or at the beginning of the slide for each play. if the quarter back makes it over 5 yards or gets a touchdown the penalty should be enforced for a loss of yards, maybe 10-15. WEAPONIZED RUNNING"QUARTER"BACK NEEDS TO BE STOPPED! I've been of the opinion that a running quarterback runs they should be treated as a running back and dealt with as such.

The horse collar tackle was indeed made illegal after Brady was injured. Too bad they didn't give a crap about Steve Smith around the same time who had his leg broken too from the same tackle. But Smitty, he's not Brady. That's the difference. Tuck rule too, was never a thing till the Patriots suffered from it.
They need to get rid of penalty cancellation. The Texans should have payed a 15 yard penalty. And none of the jaguar players should have been ejected. Only number zero should have been the only one ejected.
Nobody should have been ejected. Lawrence chose to make himself defenseless in that situation knowing a hit was inevitable instead of running until he got tackled upright like a man. If you play ball like a little bitch you're gonna get wrecked like a little bitch.
I mean it’s just being consistent with the rule book. So when one player breaks the rules, it’s okay for others to break the rules on the same play and keep the penalty? That would change the whole game itself, if you want to enforce a penalty and not enforce any rules after that?
Lawrence hit wasn’t late. Putting the elbow out is questionable, but that was not a late hit. Your “freeze frames” are all within 1 second. Idk how you’re suppose to halt 200+ lbs in less than a second. Not a late hit.
It's easy to play the clip of the hit in slow motion, or frame by frame, and call it dirty. Does it look fucking terrible? Yeah it does. It's more on the rules, the QB, and how the defender has the make this split second decision. The split second decision bit is overlooked constantly, coupled with QBs 'weaponizing slides', produces results like this.

The play isn't a problem on Al-Shaair's end. It's ONLY being talked about because Lawrence got hurt. However, Lawrence didn't actually slide until it was late, he tried to use the rules to get a few extra yards and got rocked. He didn't expect a defender to commit to the play, and Al-Shaair had to guess on if Lawrence was sliding or stutter stepping. Do you see where the problem is? How is a defender supposed to play aggressively against a running QB if the QB can pull fake slides, delayed slides, and late slides to trap the defender into a penalty? Al-Shaair deserves the suspension, just NOT for the play. He deserves it for his actions AFTER the play.

@Mikerophone I believe the football fan community needs to be informed of quarterback protective gear: The quarterback actually wears less protective gear than every player on the field. They just wear under and outter garments with minimal and flexible paddings. They don’t wear full kitted plastic/kevlar protection pads. Nor does their garment have shoulder pads but just paddings. Quarterback will take significantly more damage than any other position players. Some quarterbacks even wear a special different type of helmet made specifically for quarterback function.
I think it’s important to note that the increased punishment in this case may be because of the grievous injury caused. Think about like with a manslaughter case, even if you didn’t intend to do the crime, you still are going to get punishment for it, so even though he didn’t intend to injure Trevor on the play, he still should get increased l punishment. I also think the NFL wants to set a precedent going forward for hits like this. They want to show that hits like this and hits resulting in concussions are probably going to result in multiweek, suspensions and hefty fines. Regardless of how you feel about how fair it all is in this day and age, everyone can go and rewatch the injury footage and have their own opinion about it, the NFL is facing more scrutiny about the issue then they would’ve several years ago, and they need to give a harsh punishment to make a bigger statement about the issue of concussions
@TexansSwarm713 It's not, but you shouldn't hit a sliding player, and the players know before the game starts which quarterbacks slide and which ones don't. I think the NFL should force all QBs to have to slide and make faking a penalty. Removes all ambiguity.
If you want to make football safe make it 2 hand touch and flag football pay them a decent wage like what normal people make and you got the safest game on earth
Azeez Al-Shake should have been suspended for an entire season and fined 150k since that’s the punishment that would have been given out to anyone who would have put that same hit to Tom Brady/peyton Manning.
A guy just got a massive concussion and is out for the season and people are focused on how the QB slides should be penalised... Trevor was not sliding so I have no idea why people are making it seem like he was.

That’s what makes football worse. In rugby you have to be mindful or you’re going to kill yourself. Football the pads allow the players to use themselves as projectiles lmao
It kida looks the same but it's really not. Imagine the force you can apply when hitting your head against the wall without the helmet. Now with the helmet. Defenders understand this, and are using the pads effectively as weapons. When i had to tackled big buys who had 20kg/50pounds on me, i dove into the legs with pads and helmet, and they crumbled like a cookies every time. 0 chance i'm doing that with my unprotected head.
I agree with Joe Thomas. If you fake a slide or going out of bounds, you get a 15 yard penalty. It's just like with Punt Returners calling for a Fair Catch and then trying to take off. At the same time I agree with the fact that things need to be ruled consistently across the board.
@A_to_Zappa Yea I LMFAO when he did that. VB had that comin for awhile that Smash wasn't only for AB but seemed like it had a lil behind it for everyone VB did dirty. LOL
The league rule is wrong! Don’t allow any player to be on the field of play where they don’t protect themselves. What if boxing said “protect yourself at all times except the last 10 seconds of a round.”
You obviously never been running 15 mph at someone else running dead at you at 15 mph…in real time your (freeze frames) were less than a second to actually react…josh Allen wouldn’t have slid
It looks like it was about a half-second or so in real time from when his knee actually touched the ground to when he got hit. Bang bang play, IMHO. If he didn't get hurt, it wouldn't be seen as being such a big deal. Slow mo gives a false impression.
To solve this problem. Scrambling QBS Can only gain 20yds from Line of Scrimmage. If QB holds ball longer than 3sec it's will be considered a scramble. QB may now only gain a max of 20yds from LOS. This negates the fake slide or fake run out of bounds.
I hope that the league made this move hoping it would actually shock everyone into realizing that the QB slide needs attention, PERIOD. So from now on I expect there to be more focus on the QBs in sliding situations. Bet they dont get away with faking anymore. RISE UP!!
that’s basically what it’s becoming, hard to shame demeco for saying what he said. that slide was right infront of immediate contact bro, maybe he should’ve just stood wrapped that ball up and took a hit? instead of sliding

@@NorthSouth-d1tnot only that but because people are padded up and with helmets, they tend to use the gear as a weapon or they tend to tackle with their head. Rugby not so much because you don’t have a helmet and it would hurt.
I think a lot of good points were made. One more I would like to see is the removal of extra armor on players. If the defender in this play did not have that ridiculous amount of extra padding on his arm, he never would have delivered the blow. I also think removing the face masks would solve many of their concussion problems, too. This exact same thing could help MLB, too. The batters hog the plate with their Robocop armored suit and full-faced helmet - never worried about being hit because the pain has been taken out of the equation.

Which was caused by the forearm to the head? Causing his head to snap back down on the turf? I think the NFL needs to do a deep down study on the effects of a natural surface vs AstroTurf. And do more research. I understand it allows the owners to be more flexible with what a stadium can host but at the cost of player safety and longevity? I played 6 yrs total back in the 90s all on a actual grass fields and still got my bell rung a time or 2 but with turf fields how much padding is between the turf and a solid concrete surface? Yes ground is hard but it has some give. Concrete doesn't? If you have to play on a sloppy muddy field then so be it. First off, cheap and dirty hit. But, the coach has a point that QBs are cheating with the slide rule, just not in this case.
He is right about that in a general sense, but using it here to excuse the dirty play of his man is just wrong.
@buckmahaffey7648 He led with a braced arm into Lawrence's chin. NOTHING to do with being unable to stop forward momentum.
Exactly 💯
@MikeHarvey-ol7xr again please feel free to read the first comment over again. We are not in disagreement with the arm.
People need to stop bringing up late slides and fake slides inel regards to this situation; it's disrespectful to Trevor who did not slide late or attempt a fake slide. He clearly began sliding 5+ yard from Aziz and gave himself up. It was a dirty hit plain and simple
That Easter Island head lookin MFer did slide late and got a well deserved tackle.
One fake slide and suddenly every dirty hit gets a pass
Just stating that all these actions are creating responses that I don’t think the NFL initially considered
Going down low to tackle is pretty normal, not just a reaction to a slide.
Defense is running into a dude who suddenly went into a position where ANY contact is going to end badly. The head is suddenly at waist level, and the QB isn't stopping.
@@zenspeed404 Yeah so leading into Trevor's face with his forearm was the best option? LOL 🤡

@@djwashington6740then players shouldn’t penalized for hitting players on slides
@@jl3303
It didn't used to be this way, the owners created this situation and the NFLPA is partially to blame as well.

I think The suspension time was based on the hit. This hit was so disrespectful and unnecessary it was disgusting.
@ couldn’t agree more.
im with Joe Thomas.
Running backs and receivers are also allowed to slide to avoid contact, and the same rules apply as to ball is placed at the start of the slide.

That's never going to happen. That would lead to increased vigilante-ism, and the NFL would get sued.
I mean it’s just being consistent with the rule book. So when one player breaks the rules, it’s okay for others to break the rules on the same play and keep the penalty? That would change the whole game itself, if you want to enforce a penalty and not enforce any rules after that?
Nah
just make an illegal slide penalty
Lawrence hit wasn’t late. Putting the elbow out is questionable, but that was not a late hit. Your “freeze frames” are all within 1 second. Idk how you’re suppose to halt 200+ lbs in less than a second. Not a late hit.
It's easy to play the clip of the hit in slow motion, or frame by frame, and call it dirty. Does it look fucking terrible? Yeah it does. And to change thoughts , that’s about .15 of a second, in easier terms that’s like a baseball player being able to hit a 250mph baseball

@Mikerophone I believe the football fan community needs to be informed of quarterback protective gear:
The quarterback actually wears less protective gear than every player on the field.
I heard a commentator say yesterday that the quarterback should dive instead of slide, because a defender wouldn't want his knees or ankles taken out.
Isn't that what Tua did last time he got a concussion?
Head first is a great way to get injured.
That’s exactly what Tua did. And Trevor was probably told to slide because he missed time thanks to a shoulder injury cause by….diving.
That’s what Purdy does and he hurt his shoulder
A proper form tackle starts square and leads with the chest, lowering your shoulder is a great way to miss a tackle and/or catch a flag.
No more QB slides. If you choose to leave the pocket, you are also leaving its protection.
It’s barely any protection in the pocket these days
100%!!!! They just expect these defensive players to stop in mid air.
Or... No dirty hits from a scummy player.
Exactly but ppl want it both ways. QB to be able to fight and run for extra yards but never to be hit by a defender doing so it’s stupid
@GoChargersGo808 A slide gives a QB an additional yard or two sometimes.
It is very evident that he DID intend to injure Trevor.
Once the qb leaves the pocket he becomes a runner. So why is it that it is the defense’s responsibility to protect the offense?
Because reasons (and emotions).
@TexansSwarm713 It's not, but you shouldn't hit a sliding player, and the players know before the game starts which quarterbacks slide and which ones don't. I think the NFL should force all QBs to have to slide and make faking a penalty. Removes all ambiguity.

Yeah it did happen fast. Maybe he could have pulled off but it was split split second.

Wrong.. if he slid late and Al-Shaair initiated his hit before the slide he woulda flew over Trevor.. instead he hit him low center of gravity.. and if that wasn’t bad enough he aimed his forearm for Trevor’s head.. and if that wasn’t bad enough he was wearing a carbon fiber brace.. which means he intentionally hit and tried to hurt Lawrence and that’s a fact.. plus the guy has a history of this.. quit tryna make excuses for him..

@@adrienroy9310 so true man.. and then the dudes agent and the Texans pr team made him put out a public apology and the dude starts talking about racism and Islamophobia haha.. like you can’t make this stuff up.. like the dude is an aggressive player and intentionally tried to hurt Trevor and that’s the reality of the situation.. football is a violent sport and you gotta have a violent crazy mentality to be a linebacker.. so this stuff is going to happen and I get that because I have over a decade experience between playing and coaching.. my problem isn’t necessarily with the hit it’s all these apologists and delusional ppl making excuses or saying it wasn’t intentional..
The fake slide should get 15 yard flags.
THE MOST PHYSICAL SPORT IN THE WORLD! MMA is like bro WRF? 😂😂😂😂😂
No punch can exceed the impact of two 2 250 lb players running at full speed and colliding
Last time I checked you can't get a 20 yrd run and ram your shoulder into a guys head in the MMA
MMA ain’t shit compared to football hits. It’s like comparing a pillow fight to a brick fight.
How do you get a late side? Did he start to slide after he got hit.
If you run out of the pocket you should lose “protection” no other position has that shitty rule. Also tlaw didn’t get fully concussed by the hit he got hurt by the ground
Qb protection nowadays is ridiculous
Seems more forgiving than having your head slapped down on a concrete slab with no give? I've never played on a field with artificial turf but we used to do drills in the gym with a mat 3 to 4 inches thick and you still fill the whallop?
13:19 trevor HAD THE OPPORTUNITY to run towards the sidelines, but he chooses to run directly at the linebacker.
I think both Joe Thomas and Nick Casero had points.. I do lean more towards what Nick Casero said…
Let Jordan love get hit like that you'll be singing a completely different song.
@@mrguccitrump8764 No I wouldn’t..
@@CooperDoesSportsyeah you would, you’d be crying to mommy. And if you actually watched the video he used his forearm to slam TLs head back. Say you’re low IQ without saying it 🤡
Simple solution everyone is overlooking: ban quarterbacks.
It's a violent sport. Protect yourself at all times...just like in Boxing or MMA.
Get rid of sliding altogether.
If you leave the pocket, you're a runner and will be treated as a runner.
Dude you can't hit a running back when the play is over either
What are you talking about
The play isn't over until the whistle is blown. You've obviously never played the game.... clown.
I can't take the credit for this idea because I saw another commenter post it; If a QB "fakes" a slide or going out of bounds and takes advantage of the defensive player pulling-up, they should be flagged for a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
What do you want defenders to do? He aimed low, QB (who was a RUNNER at that point) decided to slide. I hated when people ducked into a dodgeball and called “head hunting” 😂 it’s easy to put the play in ultra slow mo and tell us what “should’ve” happened. But that’s easier said than done when actually playing. I played at college level but I can only imagine how fast the play is happening when played at NFL level
you lost me where you compared dodgeball to football.
@@PMrazthese casuals just watch highlights and judge the slow no when in normal speed you can see he had time to not tackle😂
@@YuMadasfk “casual” gets thrown around a lot, especially by clowns who never played the sport
@@PMraz defender aimed low so he won’t go high, offensive player slides low bringing his own head into the shot. Next week we’ll go over shapes and colors
two bangers in a row! That was definetly a dirty hit!
He honestly didn't deserve that punishment. To act as if we can make a better decision while watching it at 10% speed. It's insane. That all happened in like 1.5 seconds real time. QBs NEED TO PROTECT THEMSELVES BETTER. I don't blame Trevor, but you need to get down early enough to not even allow that hit to start. Humans aren't a computer with a pause button. The whole thing is kind of insane.
When I played football we tried to hit the other team as hard as we could because if you hit them hard enough they were out of the game. We didn't want to hurt them, but if we did... It was a plus lol
" Most physical sport in the world" what a crock! Hockey makes Football look like child's play. 🇨🇦
Have you seen some hits in the NFL? Some are insane but most are lackluster at most
Have you seen the hits? The only hits that happen in hockey are the 2 fist fights they allow per game.
Stick to your war crimes since your sports aren't the most entertaining nor are they the most physical.
Meanwhile rugby is off to the side laughing
Hockey aint ish😂😂 aint nothing physical about it. They softened that sport up too why you over there talking
Seems like we’re dealing with separate issues. The hit on TL, consistency in punishment and QB run/slide. The punishment on TL hit is spot on. It’s not a very good defensible position to say the punishment on the Azeri hit was too harsh because similar hits weren’t punished as severely. I would suggest the NFL go back and make all the flagrant roughness calls suspensions using the TL hit as a template.
God is good and great
Ban the player, FIRE the Coach for defending him! He was vulnerable!
