Exactly! Mariah is the diva of divas! I would say Christina Aguilera's voice is almost as good as Mariah's. Britney cannot vocally compete with them at all. No disrespect to Britney, btw- she is a diva in her own way. Just not in the same league as Christina, Mariah, or Whitney.

If you really want to be mind-blown, check out Whitney Houston's live Grammy performance of "One Moment in Time." For Mariah Carey you have to hear her first single "Vision of Love," which catapulted her into superstardom.
I agree. That's when you know her voice is at her absolute best.
But if we're trying to teach Jay about Mariah... as a young man who would never have intentionally listened to that type of music at the time, it was Emotions and that ridiculous "whistle register" that made me sit up and take notice. It's also more fast paced. He's not into the ballads.

Mariah: I’d start with her first song Vision of Love. Also: Fantasy, My All, Always Be My Baby, Dreamlover, Emotions, Hero, are good introductory songs.
I'm repeating myself from another comment, but I think Emotions has to be the first, to get Jay on board. Those insane whistle notes she hits felt like they had to be fake the first time I heard it. Plus it's a little faster paced. Hard to believe that he hasn't heard Fantasy by now, especially when it became a hit all over again from that Free Guy movie.

Whitney's first two big hits seem to be forgotten or overlooked these days, but they are great. Saving All My Love For You and You Give Good Love made her a big star right away when she was 21-22. Her first two albums went to #1 for long periods of time in 1985-7.

Whitney is legendary... plain and simple! Jay and Amber... please check out more of SHEENA EASTON's catalogue! Her voice is spectacular, yet she is highly underrated! She had multiple hits through the 80's/early 90's. For her showcasing ballad vocals, check out "Almost Over You", "For Your Eyes Only". For pop/dance, "The Lover In Me", "Strut", etc. You will not be disappointed!
Oh dear god NOOOOO! Even as a fellow Scot I MUST pull you up on this. Sheena Easton's voice is AWFUL, TRULY AWFUL! She lasted less than a year here in the UK before her career was STONE DEAD and she went away to America where frankly, standards were MUCH lower. She was the only mistake Prince ever made.

There's a reason Whitney was known as The Voice. This is one of my faves. You should check out the music video/live performance of Didn't We Almost Have It All. That blew me away and solidified her voice as a true powerhouse. I usually don't like remakes of songs but she killed the remake of Chaka Khan's I'm Every Woman. Her icon status became permanent with the Dolly Parton written song I Will Always Love You. It's a great song that I grew to dislike only bc it was played all the time everywhere. It's from the hit movie The Bodyguard starring Whitney and Kevin Costner. But seriously, every Whitney song is fantastic and she gives her all on every record. Love your channel and stay blessed!

THE VOICE. Period. The first 2 albums were amazing (this was off her 2nd album), but her masterpiece, in my opinion, was I'm Your Baby Tonight. That album was on another level. You guys should react to her live performance of "He's All the Man I Need" from Welcome Home Heroes. One of the greatest live performances of all time.

Absolutely agree with I'm Your Baby tonight album, it has so many of my favourite Whitney tracks - the duet with Stevie Wonder We Didn't Know, the Luther co-written and produced Who Do You Love, I really need to dig that out and have another listen.

Whitney Houston is the GOAT!! I remember hearing her for the first time on the radio singing You Give Good Love and I cranked that volume UP!! I was driving over Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel at the time and I'll never forget how perfect the song was with the visual I was seeing of the open waters of the Chesapeake Bay. I still get goosebumps thinking about that. Thank goodness the song finished and I got her name before I got to the tunnel and lost the signal. Simply the best(Tina Turner pun intended. I love how in almost all of her videos you can see her keeping the beat and time with her microphone hand as she sings!
