    Tully Blanchard was to the heel role what Ricky Steamboat was to being a face! They were both so good that I could never imagine them in the counter roll.

    Tully was briefly a Face in his last days in Southwest Championship Wrestling. The story was that the Sheepherders (who, in SCW were The NWO Before the NWO) had attacked and injured promoter Joe Blanchard. Tully set out to rid SCW of the Sheepherders, and promised that if he couldn't beat them he'd retire. He lost the big match, and "retired". No mention was ever made on the show that retiring just meant moving to another territory.

    Tully, it is wonderful to see you be at such peace and contentment.....Getting to know you outside of the ring from 35 years ago is really a neat thing....
    I remember when I heard you would not be wrestling anymore due to an issue with drugs. As I reflect back at that time, it makes perfect sense that a strong and tough man like yourself, wasted little time in picking up another way to express the artist in you when you gave it up to YHWH and decided to go into ministry - PRISON MINISTRY of course...I believe you were under Pastor Loran Livingston out of Charlotte, NC....I lived in SC for about a year back in 1995 and picked the Pastor up on the radio on Sunday nights. He was the absolute best....when he fired up, he could get a man to rise up and be instantly ready to kick some a--.some evil a--.
    Or pump you personally up and get you to believe you can do anything...
    His style really motivated me.....
    I had went to SC to battle my drug issue and was really struggling and that's when I found out you had went into ministry and was free free and Free of the madness...
    I used to love all sports and wrestling was one them....during my battles, I eventually got clean and stayed that way in February of 1997, if I flicked on wrestling, I would gravitate in my head to Tully and Arn and then winder how you wee doing....you became part of a motivation wheel that helped me get the desire and strength to get clean..
    I knew Jesus, but if you do not make Him your priority, you got nothing....
    I have come a long way since then and so has my friend, Tully Blanchard, who I will have to wait to meet on the other side....
    MAKE NO MISTAKE
    When I think about Tully Blanchard, I di not go to the wrestling ring in my head, I go to a prison and see a crowd of men totally focused on what you are saying....Pastor Loran Livingston type - No
    But what they do get is a man they know 100% is telling them the Truth..
    You did not get the integrity tag as being an honest man after YHWH.
    You earned that in the Wrestling business. You and Arn might have been
    A little shady in how you fought and did others but you never, ever withheld the Truth. Matter of fact, you relished in the Truth and loved telling Dusty to be on the look out and don't turn your back, cause the Horsemen might just jump out of a bush and kick your a--.
    Mr. Blanchard, sir, thank you for being a MAN of YHWH.
    Oh, and a wrestler too......
    You were part of that last generation of grapplers that can be called an ARTIST.
    It was as much a part of you as painting was to Picasso....I never saw that back in the day, but now that wrestling is not worth watching today because there are but a handful of artist left, if any...I can appreciate your art work now and you and Arn have no equal on tag team art work.....
    I am certain that the intensity you had with wrestling art is the same in reaching others and YHWH has and is turning your spiritual art work to His good use.
    Love ya, man

    When you look at the cocky playboy heel technicians who would also strut around that damn ring, THE BIG THREE is Buddy Rogers, Flair, and Tully. And even though Bockwinkel didn't strut around the ring, he STILL came across as a cocky playboy heel technician on the highest level. So I always VIEWED Tully as the younger 5'10 version of those guys. Plus all four of those guys were great on the mic, were well dressed, AND of course had that true main event charisma/IT factor. So the fact he said Bock was a major influence isn't surprising. MJF FOR SURE is from the blueprint of these legends. Hopefully AEW turns him back heel soooner than later.
    I also think Tully's athletic ability is underrated. His blend of athletic ability and technical skills was CLOSE to the level of babyfaces like Steamboat, Santana, Martel, or Brad Armstrong in that era. But since Tully was true pure heel, he DIDN'T use that babyface type of in ring skillset. He played to the heel side of things. BUT the way he moved in the ring, would throw dropkicks, and even do sunset flips off the top rope at times, you could see he was one of the most athletic guys in wrestling. Only reason why Tully wasn't NWA or WCW World Champion was timing. He was in the Horsemen with Flair. Then when Flair went to WWF in the early 90's, Tully MAY HAVE gotten a WCW World Title reign if he was active full time in the business.

      Flair went back and forth

    • @bizil100
      @bizil100 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@die2no Sure he did. BUT Flair was still the EPITOME of the cool playboy heel technician type of wrestler. MOST GUYS switch between face and heel. BUT at the end of the day, MOST GUYS are best off as one or the other. Flair was BEST OFF as a cool heel type. He has said himself he's best off as a heel. Flair's PEAK was arguably as the leader of heel Four Horsemen. MOST of Flair's World Title reigns were as a heel. BUT he still can be a very effective babyface because of his swag and jovial nature. Tully was more of wrestling' s version of JR Ewing. Hella charismatic and cool. BUT a total asshole who doesn't have many if any redeeming qualities. LOL

    • @proggydoggie
      @proggydoggie 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bockwinkel was smooth as silk, both talking and wrestling. He's largely forgotten today, but us old timers remember how great he was. I actually think MJF has a little bit of Tully in him. They are similar size (MJF is more jacked, but similar). Both are good athletes and move with precision in the ring. When MJF was a heel, he would go on angry tirades that reminded me a little of Tully. Of course, MJF is his own person and does things in a unique way. But he certainly studied the legends like Tully, Flair, Piper, etc.

    • @bizil100
      @bizil100 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@proggydoggie Damn right!! MJF is a literal mix of Tully, Flair, and Piper. I see shades of all three in him. That’s why i loved it when they had The Pinnacle with Tully and MJF a part of it. Ive heard MJF in interviews say he was heavily influenced by the legends i mentioned earlier. And on Busted Open radio, a fan asked him what era of wrestling young guys should watch for character development. MJF said Jim Crockett Promotions. I can’t wait for MJF to go back to being a heel!
