    Liz is cool because she has good taste in games! Aeons End is awesome, I think my favorite is Aeons End New Age but this is a great way to get into this game! This is my favorite deck builder and it needs more love!

    Just got this as an early birthday present and am waiting til then to play. I think the gentle intro will be good for me and my husband.

    I have pretty much all of Aeon’s End and the legacy version is a good way to bring new players on board. It wasn’t as engaging as Pandemic Legacy, but it was enjoyable

    i need that playmat. I didn't realize it laid everything out so well.
    Sidenote: There's a 3d printable market holder for this on thingiverse, it's awesome.

    Great review Liz! Wife and I are in the minority and eagerly traded away the base game. Didn't find it fun to play, and after beating each boss a few times, we'd settled on a consistent strategy that worked regardless of the boss. I understand expansions fix some of that, but it wasn't fun enough to warrant additional purchases... Nor did we want to challenge ourselves using bad cards x) Glad this hits the spot for so many others though! For now, Helionox remains our favorite deck builder.

    For cards from other Aeon's End games, they vary in usefulness depending on mage, nemesis, and combinations with other cards. I feel a LOT of cards in Aon's End can be cut because they have no combos, or too specific combinations to work with. Keeping all of them in together is great if you decide to set the market space so combinations are always present, bad if you randomize your options. The more sets you combine the harder it is to randomly generate specific combinations. Some mages function best with specific cards too, and some nemesis are easier to deal with when you have the correct combination of market cards and/or mages.
    The biggest issue I have with the game is that there are so many cards, I don't get the value of buying them if I am only retaining 2 or 3 cards from that set in my play collection. Oh there is one more reason for reducing the pool of cards, and that is space limitations of the box. I do not like having multiple boxes for a single game.
    My only reason to buy this game would be for a few extra market cards, to make mages that don't exist in my collection, and add interesting nemeses. There's a few market cards that I really want, but then comes the question, can I make the mages interesting enough.
    A major aspect for me is building decks, but this also involves thinning a deck to make it as optimal as possible. There aren't many cards in Aeon's End that do this, and with such a tiny market there is very little space to allow for it. Is it possible to create a mage that destroys cards?

    For me, it was the best experience of Aeon's end ever. The expedition mode of New Age is a "mini Legacy" and is very enjoyable and challenging!

    Aeon's end's main flaw: the white-bordered cards!!!

    Aeon's End Legacy was one of the worst gaming experiences we've had - and we love Aeon's End. The story was horrible, the first 4 games were boring since they miss mechanisms, the Legacy elements interfered with the normal game play and turned the game into a slog and to put insult to injury - you can only use 40% of the cards in the normal game since the rest are either unusable or overpowered/underpowered.

    • @Lordjunon
      @Lordjunon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      40% where are you getting that number? you get all the market cards, a carpton of level 1 2 and 3 nemesis, and a good majority of the nemesis. Thats more than 40%

      @@Lordjunon according to the End of Campaign booklet, only the market cards from chapters X and Y are similar to other Aeon's End boxes. Market cards from previous chapters are underpowered and cards from later chapters are overpowered. 40% sounds about right. That being said, I will counter that argument by saying that with 2 and 3 mages, not all 9 market piles of cards are used. More often than not, there is a gem, a relic and a spell that were not used at all, which means that 1 or 2 underpowered cards in a random market do not break the game.
      Kentchangar Nimoghtony has a point about the story: it is only an excuse to string the sequence of nemesis. Anybody who takes this game to have a good story will be disappointed.
