It was fun seeing Keegan learning stick shift! A lost ability among todays younger generation! I was teaching my 15 yr old sister in law to drive my work beater, an Ion 2.2 5spd! Its cool to see them catch on and learn to control the clutch!
Understandable @davidkauffman561 I have a 16 yrs old nephew. Gonna be teaching him on a 92 Mitsubishi 3000GT. Luckily i have a new engine i built, spare trans, and clutch. Should be interesting to say the least.
If you haven’t already, run an ozone generator in the interior a few times. Should nuke any remaining microbes and mold spores assuming it was adequately cleaned. Make sure to run the ac and heat while the generator is running.
A little tip, you should never have to beat your brake pads onto the brackets. What you want to do is wirewheel down the part where the stainless steel hardware contacts, cleaning all the rust and bs off and then apply brake lube THEN stick your hardware on top of that. It will prevent rust from squeezing the pads and will make the pads go in really nice.
As someone who lightly built a track modded EP3, they're so much fun! They won't turn the fastest laps but they're a riot with the stock engine. A RSX Type-S transmission was a huge upgrade, both on track and on highway cruising speeds.
Best tip you can have Keegan do that will help him start into gear every scenario is have him on a perfectly level surface first. - have him hold the clutch and in first gear NO GAS. - Next have him stare at the rpms as he very slowly lets off the clutch. The moment he sees the rpms dip, that’s the catch point and it’ll sometimes creep forward. - he can now slowly apply gas and teaching this practice he will gain muscle memory and can find the catch on any new vehicle without looking jerky and inexperienced.
Exactly as I do when I’m teaching someone. Some even told me that as soon as they felt it, it becomes much easier. On an incline I just tell them it the exact same but more throttle and less clutch
Please tell me you fumigated that back seat... Keegan, and you are developing a host cohost personality and I really like it. I love the Idea of fixing up the car and showing what the mods do for your car each time you take it up a step or level.. Also, keeping the car kinda stock would be nice... I'm not sure where do you stop modding it, like definitely turbo it for sure, but after that where do you really go with it?
Awesome to be seeing Keegan in more and more videos. He's so lucky to have you to learn from and you're lucky to have someone that wants to learn and help.
So happy to see more of the EP3! I love my EP3, its my quirky little egg car. It has 350k miles on it and I'm at the point that I'm ready to drop in a K24. My plan is to keep it OEM+. Last month I bought a 6-speed GK5 Fit that I will be daily driving while I work on the EP3 and I'm loving the Fit so far. Love your channel and excited to see what you do with the EP3!
I miss my 03 they are great cars I wish parts were plentiful enough for them to be actual single car daily drivers still. Good Luck hope the mods work our great! Btw a great cheap mod is putting RSX type S sway bars on it they are stiffer in the front and soft in the back and they bolt right in. I got a set from a junkyard near me and it drastically changed how it handled.
I just did the same thing on my 02 Civic Si. It had sat for a couple years. Needed new calipers, rotors, tires, clutch hydraulic system, exhaust, etc. I've put quite a bit into it but it's been worth it so far.
You did really good learning Keegan how to drive stick. Would love seeing more with him, learning to drive, starting track days together, learning to wrench. Cool kid, deserves it. Keep up the good work!
The reason why the steering is "different" in the EP3 is because it has Electric Power Steering which many people swap into other Honda Chassis to convert to and eliminate the PS Pump and the draw it has on power.
Doing a build with showing how each mod performs on its own as you go sounds like an awesome series. I can see it also being a way to show what mods impact the most and help other people decide/learn what they can do with their builds!
Repaired 100's of air idle valves...lots of them w/o having to remove the throttle body. Snap-On actually made a 5 point special socket for removing the older "cheese head" screws used on them. I used to gently "peen" them w/a long sharpened punch before I acquired the tool! Still got it, in my "retirement" tool box! Hollar if U need to borrow it!!😁
One of the things that really helped me learn how to drive a manual was learning that it normally takes about 7 seconds to let out the clutch when taking off. I would always release the clutch too quickly because people had always said "don't ride the clutch".
Here in Canada I have a turbo RSX-S. I bought a daily EP3 Civic then sold it and got a daily 2005 type- for $1650 with 130,000kms ( 80,000miles. It had a newer clutch, tires and brakes. Half the paint sucks though but no body rust or damage except typical dings and a quarter sized dent.
I can certainly guarantee that you will fall in love with this car. I bought my EP3 as my first car, and I found it to be a bit ugly but still ok. 2 years later and it’s been the best purchase I’ve ever made. What they really need is a set of coilovers. The stock suspension is the biggest issue with it, makes it extremely tail-happy.
@ As of current, I’m not sure. I bought my EP3 with a set of Rev9’s on it already, and they’ve been pretty good. A little rough, but nothing terrible. I’d go for a reputable company to start. For instance; Maxpeedingrods, Fortune Auto, TEIN, etc. It’s a little more expensive, but coilovers are something you should never cheap out on!!
I like the idea of hitting the track after each additional mod, kinda shows how each mod has what effects on the vehicle. I enjoy the vids you’ve been posting keep it up! 🎉
Hey Idk if you will read this comment, but I got my first ever manual car and its a Honda Accord just wanted to say you were the main motivator in buying it I can't wait for more of your videos!!
love these kinds of videos because i learn exactly what to look for when buying up a used car or looking into a car im interested in. Good stuff man keep it up and hope that SI gives you an awesome time
I love seeing Keegan learning manual, he's picking it up pretty quick. He's got a great teacher too, seeing you bang gears in anything fwd is just sick 😂
Haha, man, I remember my first time driving manual. It was terrifying, I had to drive my friend car home since he drank too much. And the hills were the worst. Luckily, not many cars were out at the time.
seen a video of a guy removing a stuck o2 sensor, he got the thing to crack loose but said that the threads didnt feel good and if he continued to try and turn it, it would damage the threads and more than likely snap becuase there was so much resistance. So he heated the sensor to hot AF and used a crayon where the sensor meets the bung, and then worked the wax into the threads by tightening and loosening... was a neat trick to see when he eventually worked the sensor out without ruining anything.... thought it might come in handy for you or your viewers as another trick up the sleeve for when crusty bolts just suck
This build makes me super excited! I personally have a EP3 myself. I also live near the Athens area. I don’t have much mods so I’m excited to see what you do with yours! I would love to do the track day with you.
I had a 2003 SI that I bought new , same color, started with intake exhaust and 50 shot of nitrous, then turbocharged it and ended swapping a k20z out of an 05 RXS Types and at 7 lbs made 420whp , it was a fun car , just be careful with the third gear
Your idea of starting at oem and then testing each mod by taking it to the track is great! That's what I wish I did when I "built" my ek because I think I did a lot of useless/detrimental mods lol.
Awesome. My father bought a new 05 ep3 identical to yours in every way back in the day. I at the time had a 2000 Civic si. When I drove his the first time, I loved it. Plus it would bark the tires going to 2nd gear, mine with the b16a2 in stock form never could. He sold it with only 36k on it because he didn't like the shifter location. I on the other hand loved it.
