    regarding Joan Collins:
    The second volume of her autobiography was called "Second Act" and was released in 1996, following her successful court battle against her publisher, Random House. The company had demanded that Joan return the $2-million advance it had given her for two novels, as it claimed her submissions were "substandard". The New York judge ruled in her favor.

    • @fredbloggs6080
      @fredbloggs6080 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Maybe they thought they were substandard compared to sister Jackie's novels.

    • @musik102
      @musik102 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      AND, Bennett Cerf was one of the owners of Random House. ( although Bennett was well dead by the time Joan was writing.)

    • @oliviamartini9700
      @oliviamartini9700 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bennett Cerf was also the mastermind behind the long-standing scam of the "Writing School", which, like the "Famous Art School", encouraged people to send samples of their work, told them they had talent, and scanned them for tuition fees. This was all exposed in a feature by famed muckraker Jessica Mitford.

    Around this time, many of my classmates were into watching Soupy Sales in a big way. In contrast, I was never much of a fan of his.
    Even so, I have been impressed by his two appearances on WML so far. He doesn't abandon his shtick, but he dials it back a couple of notches so it enlivens the game play without interfering with it.
    I thought that his question of one of the challengers about wearing gloves was a good one. I don't recall the question having been asked before,

      Interesting. I'm just the opposite. In this episode in particular, Dorothy annoys me. For example, getting hung up on the 'display' aspect of the trampoline. I can't believe how quickly they were able to guess the mystery guests.

      That was Anthony Newley's fault. He should have from the very beginning hid his British accent with an American one. Once they knew they were British, it was all over (they were the talk of the town back then)

    Somehow it doesn't quite seem correct to call Soupy Mr. Sales.

    Now I know that the source of Joan Collin's inimitable power surely lay in her helmet!

    I love Arlene, Dorothy and Bennett! Did anyone notice that the right side of Arlene's face drooped slightly? You can see it 7:30 through 8:20. I was never a fan of Anthony Newley's singing voice. His vibrato was excruciating on the ear but I suppose it does well on the Broadway stage. For me, he came off as self absorbed when he sang. Sorry.

    It's worth a laugh searching TH-cam for "Soupy Sales Do The Mouse" to see what Arlene was describing. Can anyone imagine Bennett doing the Watusi? The audience was more rowdy than I've ever heard, between the baby crying, wolf-whistling a male contestant, and the guy who keeps shouting "Bravo!"

    John, know when to be quiet, dude. That bit with Joan Collins... No one watching cares about you and your wife and the name dropping. We aren't impressed, nor do we care, that you were a neighbor of Joan Collins and she didn't seem to either, for that matter. We just want to hear from the celebrities. Lol
