    If I am correct on my NYC subway history, if you follow the Bushwick branch to its western stub end at Bushwick and Montrose Avenues, that was how the BMT was able to get subway cars into the western end of the 14th Street line before the eastern section was completed to connect it to the Canarsie line at Broadway Junction. A temporary ramp was built to send the cars onto the newly constructed tracks that were ready to begin revenue service.

      pretty sure that was actually the south Brooklyn railway, that's how the BMT got there geometry cars and work trains.

    There are still an active track for freight trains on Morgan Avenue near Newtown Creek in Brooklyn New York.
    Can you please do a video about it? We actually got stuck when a Locomotive was pulling ten freight cars across Morgan Avenue. There's a firehouse on Morgan Avenue which is Engine Company 237. You can stop by their quarters and ask them about the 1965 LUMBER YARD FIRE. It was a great BIG CONFLAGRATION with flames shooting over two HUNDRED feet high. Actually it was the FDNY'S SUPER PUMPER'S first fire, which didn't belong to the fire DEPARTMENT yet. It was going through a shakedown trial on Welfare ISLAND which was the fire Department's training school.

    Awesome. I run up and down Metropolitan Avenue a lot but haven't caught any movements. One of these days - but this excellent video will suffice for now. I was a kid living near the Fresh Pond yard (late 50's early 60's). Man that was a busy place - back in the day. Thanks.

    Instead of strictly using for freight, why can't NYAR create a passenger line that utilizes the Bay Ridge branch that runs from Fresh Pond all the way thru Bay Ridge? Or the Lower Montauk Branch that used to service the LIRR? I am sick and tired of looking at the poorly-maintained and dirty NYC subway cars. These diesel trains look so much more interesting and would probably run at a more efficient speed.

    Why is titled NY&A when a CIT is front engine?

    • @trainutjob
      @trainutjob  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      joe r NYAR is the railroad, they are just leasing the CIT Geep.

    • @1atech
      @1atech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But, doesn't the NY&A have many new engines (ecofriendly ones) from about 2-3 years ago?

    • @1atech
      @1atech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know. Why are they leasing an engine if they have their own?

    • @1atech
      @1atech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just assumed that the NY&A would have enough engines since there aren't as many freight customers as in the 1960's when the LIRR was used. ie central branch in Lindenhurst.

    • @mychemicalbromance97
      @mychemicalbromance97 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      many railroads lease engines long term, too. Indiana Rail Road leases all of their SD90MACs from CIT and it's not uncommon to see one of the blue CIT lettered locomotives on an Indiana Rail Road train. Sometimes they just need a lease engine for short term while some of their own engines are in maintenance and sometimes they need them long term if they have an increase in traffic and not enough power to haul it.

    Why are those conductors walking and flagging the crossings while going short nose forward with working lights and bells on the crossing ? Very unnecessary and a waste of time just do your whistle sequence and proceed with caution sheesh haha

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OG Ragan thank you! So now a motorist sees either the engine coming, or the crossing lights, and stops. They now have to wait for a less than enthusiastic engine to pull up, stop, the conductor to walk up to the crossing, stop, the train to pull up, stop, then leave. Until the conductor reaches the crossing, running the crossing is fair game, thereby defeating the entire point of the warning.
