    5y later I spotted MP15 engine 152 docked in the Port Jefferson station this past August with the new track going down in the near future. New paint job, looking good. Nice spots!
    As I continued watching 163 also has a new paint job and was with 152 in Port Jeff in August

    I’ve lived Long Island for 58 years and up till October 2022 didn’t know we had freight trains on the island. Thanks for the video

    They really need to catch "Bobby" and make him repaint all the cars he has tagged.

    I always wondered, I see freight trains on Long Island and Queens. Besides the Hellsgate bridge, is that their only off Long Island? It seems like that a Penn Station would be a way for a freight to get on and off Long Island.

      Usually, New York Atlantic Railway brings freight from Long Island to Fresh Pond Yard in Queens, from there it is picked up by either CSX or Providence And Worcester and taken over the Hell Gate Bridge and that is their gateway off of the island. I doubt any freight would ever go through Penn, I’m not sure if the cars would even have clearance.

      There is also the NYNJ Railroad with their carfloat. Not sure how much freight comes or goes via that route though. Providence and Worcester mainly brings stone and sand from CT. I do not believe they move any general freight to the NYA.

      @@Resident_Engineer Yes that is true, NYNJ rail does a carfloat operation from 65th street yard in Brooklyn to Greenville yard in Jersey. Not sure exactly what P&W hauls to or from Fresh Pond, although I have seen P&W lite power above Fresh Pond on the bridge many times.

      freight trains are not allowed in Penn station or the tunnels - live catenary is one reason. MOW doing special moves would be an exception, but under close scrutiny.

    I'm guessing those blue & white striped loco's at Fresh Pond never venture East bound?
    Do you need special permission to go to Fresh Pond? My son and I could watch for hours.

    We heard freight train coming through stony brook this weekend in the middle of the night. Any idea which train this was ? There also seemed to be a separate train following behind that was lit up with lights

      Cool! Was it around the early AM hours or around late PM hours?

    • @CatchATrainRailfanProductions
      @CatchATrainRailfanProductions  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it was late PM hours, that was the New York Atlantic Railway RS51 and RS80 freight trains. If it was the early AM hours, it was the New York Atlantic Railway RS50 and RS81 freight trains.

      There is an Eastbound freight Monday-Friday at 10AM. I think its the first train after the morning rush hour. The best trains come through Mineola at night between 8:50 and 11pm. There are trains later also!

    NY&A needs more funding for better 6-axle locomotives, so they can haul more.

    • @davidvilabrera
      @davidvilabrera 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I read somewhere that six axle locomotives are prohibited on the NY and Atlantic as the sharp curves in their yard at Maspeth cannot take them - too much binding.
