    Keep in mind that Vorinclex does not specify "effect" like doubling season, and as a result, will also increase your own planeswalker upticks. Combined with the Ozolith, if you have a creature with 2 counters on it that dies, the Ozolith gets 4 counters, and when you move those counters off of it, the creature gets 8. It is also interesting to note that the doubling effect also works with energy and experience counters too.

      Really? Most play groups have decks that consistently win on turn 5 and can even win as early as turn 3. Then again I live in a town with a popular military base, so many of them have money, but still it's so common to see decks worse than this

    • @Corwin404

    I remember opening a random Kaldheim pack and then seeing this incredible beast, full alt art glory and imagining the cool things I'd do with it. My primary commander at the time was Willowdusk, Essence Seer, a commander based on counters that fit with Vorinclex. He was amazing. Then much later I made a planeswalker deck, not knowing the first turn bullshit you could do with him. I just thought that it would double the counters added from their + abilities. I thought that this couldn't possibly be right, you just can't use a planeswalker's ultimate on its first turn, maybe with Carth the Lion and Chain veil, but not with just one other card and without tons of mana. I was wrong, and now I'm disgusted. I thought he would be somewhat fair, that he would be based off of +1/+1 counters and maybe infect, but not this. Vorinclex is ruined for me, because I loved him but he grew too powerful to be acceptable. My heart is broken. This truly is an asshole deck.

    I lean more toward Elf Tribal for Vorinclex +1/+1, with a couple of the money hydras, like Kalonian.
    The extra ramp from cards like Numa and Marwyn lets you begin slapping down your coverage spells like Ascetism much earlier, without disrupting your tempo.
    Saying nothing of the fact that cards like Jorega Warcaller and Haldir, Lorien Lieutenant can provide comparable counters support, while contributing to the mana base.

    Can WotC just stop making sets "with Commander in mind". While it was nice at the start when they would dip their toe in with a card here and there that was focussed on Commander, this whole mindset is adding too much, too fast. I've got four Commander decks, and all four are now completely outclassed in the past year. Like... not even upgradable. Why run Atraxa when this monstrosity is running about?

    • @heroic_gamer2108

      uhh well atraxa is multicolored and has access to way more card types

    • @APyralis
      @APyralis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heroic_gamer2108 There isn't a need for that with Vorinclex here. Access can be great, but is easily overcome by a focussed strategy that requires less to get online. If every card in your deck needs double white, or some combination of W/B/U/G you'll waste time trying to find mana over a mono-green or 80/20 G/B.

    • @heroic_gamer2108
      @heroic_gamer2108 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@APyralis Well maybe, but the appeal is ultimating planeswalkers immediately upon entry which is great with green and colorless; however, planeswalker ultimates in other colors are far more lethal than a lot of green or colorless ones ever could be. So I still think that there's definitely an appeal for rolling with Atraxa. The benefit of Vorinclex is that he has a better focused synergy with specific counters and has the doubling season effect stapled onto him in the command zone. Atraxa lacks this, but because she has access to more colors and cards, there are more directions that you can take her decks

    If the new Vorinclex works like Doubling Season, then it will only double the quantity of Loyalty Counters that Planeswalkers enter with. Their Activated Abilities being used do not add double, as those Loyalty Counters are considered to be a cost to said Activated Ability.

    You showed a lot of hydras at that cost 6 mana. That might run into a bit of conflict if you're prioritizing Vorinclex when you hit 6, and then want to follow it up the next turn with a planeswalker. Some good options that can fit lower on the curve would be managorger and bristling hydra. There are a lot of good X hydras that I've enjoyed playing with recently. Steelbane is a great way to get multiple naturalize effects, Voracious Hydra can be good creature removal or quadruple counters, and Hungering Hydra is a nearly strictly better Protena Hydra. I don't know if you want to lean into combo, but the three mana dorks you cited can go infinite with sword of the paruns and a few other things, and then can use that infinite mana to draw your creatures from the deck with duskwatch recruiter or cast an arbitrarily large Walking Ballista.

I still feel like my Pir/Toothy deck would be stronger outright but Vorinclex is a direct counter to it. I won't run him in toothy so that my opponents can't steal or copy him. (Doubling season and this in toothy is just asking to mill yourself at a bad time for little benefit)

    When you talk about the opponents using the abilities of the planeswalker, up taking then, and getting half of the counters, i believe that part has a minor rulling error. In the doubling season rules scryfall has a reminder that up take the planeswalker is a part of the cost, so you put the same amount of counters in then.

    • @BaikenAndEggs

  • @topsykrett1744
    @topsykrett1744 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually am not sure Vorinclex's second ability would affect counters being added the way you think. For instance. Doubling season doubles the counters the planeswalker gets when they enter, that is true. But when you activate their ability, they only get the noted counter on the card. It doesnt double the amount of counters they add since it is their cost or some weird ruling. So i dont think Vorn would stop planeswalkers adding counters for the opponents

    • @willh1655

    I could easily be wrong, but the wording of Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider is "if you would PUT one of more counters on a permanent or player..." so unlike doubling season, which states "if an EFFECT", It does double the uptick of plansewakers , but does not double their ETB of counters. As that is "this card enters with x of y counters on it."
    I could very easily be wrong. I hope its not just a 'better' doubling season in the command zone, but we'll have to wait and see what the rulings are on this card.

    • @matthewyoho5422
      @matthewyoho5422 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're correct that it doubles upticking planeswalkers, but incorrect about it doubling their starting loyalty: He does that bit too - when a planeswalker enters the battlefield and gets its starting loyalty counters via an effect (what Doubling Season looks for and replaces), the way that it gets those counters via that effect is the game instructing YOU to place them there (the condition that Vorinclex looks for, and replaces). The way he's worded means that it doesn't matter why you're putting counters on permanents or players, so long as it's you doing that (which in the case of any planeswalker you control as it ETBs, you would be), then you'll be doubling counters.
