The Professor posted a brand new deck box review? It's true, a video like that happened just last Tuesday, and you can watch it here: th-cam.com/video/E_FHG6bXpws/w-d-xo.html
Professor Don't be Gruul!, any chance of doing the King of haymakers, Xenagos God of revels deck tech? Etali hasted for 12 damage with that trigger on the stack before damage or blockers chosen *Chef Kiss
Thank you for not only making a really cool deck tech, but one for a deck that’s pretty affordable and attainable for most players. I know that can sometimes be super hard so I always appreciate deck techs I can actually consider.
Ive been trying really hard lately to build cheaper decks. Me and my friends starting having arms races where our decks were getting outrageous! Like $800 minimum just to be able to compete with each other and the decks are SUPER salty. It started to get not fun, real fast. My last 2 decks have been both under $100 and honestly, iam more excited about this new one and the strat I got going for it then any deck ive ever built before!
Thank you Prof. Chainer is one of my long time favorite characters in the lore, actually just finished Chainer's Torment novel and this is exactly what I needed. Thank you again, Commander!
Some of these suggestions are pricey, but pick and choose to your own means. Generally artifacts are the best options. All the Signets, all the talismans, Mox Diamond, Chrome Mox, Thran Dynamo, Worn Powerstone, Sol Ring, Coldsteel Heart, Darksteel Ingot, Fellwar Stone, Mindstone, Star Compass, Thought Vessel, Coalition Relic, Commander's Sphere, Palladium Myr, Alloy Myr, Extraplanar Lense, Hedron Archive, Ur-Golem's Eye, Sisay's Ring, Gauntlet of Power, Gilded Lotus, Caged Sun, Dreamstone Hedron. I think most of these are good options. Of course there are more, but it's pushing it (I am already on a few of these, but if you are desperate this is what you get). If want to go deeper, you have the banners, obelisks, cluestones, keystones, and lockets. White just has some catch up land draws when behind on lands: - Land Tax - Weathered Wayfarer - Knight of the White Orchid - Kor Cartographer (no land restriction) - Gold Myr - Marble Diamond Blue really on has some rituals for temporary mana bumps, but other than that you have: - Silver Myr - Sky Diamond Black doesn't ramp either but has swamps matter cards that produce a lot of mana (All which work well with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth): - Cabal Coffers - Crypt Ghast - Nirkana Revenant - Leaden Myr - Charcoal Diamond Red has lots of rituals, but those aren't really ramp. It has some that can have narrow uses and some that are universal effects: - Braid of Fire (Only can be used at instant speed during upkeep) - Gauntlet of Might (doubles all mountains) - Mana Flare (doubles everyone's mana) - Iron Myr Tried to keep it under two mana per mana return, unless you get a rainbow mana per three. GLHF
Just run artifacts and rituals. Signets, Talismans, and Felwar Stone. Bauble is worse, but playable I guess and certain decks can recur it for extra value. The best artifact ramp isn't budget. Unfortunately if you are criteria for ramp are non-green AND budget, your options are extremely limited. As SV just said though there are an insane number of tools at your disposal to go through magic cards and find what you are looking for. Scryfall, gatherer, and others. Just... go look... you're going to find that generically speaking the things I already posted are going to be your best bet. If you are mono or dual that heavily favors one color you can run Medallions as well.
Love that you did this vid Prof! Made a chainer deck myself and lamented that there were so few deck techs out there for him. People are sleeping on this Hasty Rakdos Reanimator!
When I got the Madness precon this last year, Chainer was definitely one of my favorite cards from it. The whole synergy he has with other cards is amazingly fun.
I love my chainer nightmare adept deck, it is so similar to this decklist... I also would suggest stitcher's supplier and mire triton to fill graveyards, apprentice necromancer and unearth (used to reanimate the necromancers) to cheat on reanimation costs, warstorm surge for additional damage and finally anathemancer as a chep reanimation target to punish the guy with a lot of utility lands... Love your work on this one Prof
I've decided to make my own Chainer deck today and my first draft made without looking at any reference decks is almost identical to yours! That makes me confident in my choice!
You would not believe how happy I was to see Chainer and Greven in the 2019 commander decks (please correct me if I'm wrong). I love everything to do with the Weatherlight stuff, despite joining the game years after ended
Just one consideration that I would like to point out. Vedalken Orrery. Why, you might ask. So that you can bring back creatures from your graveyard with Chainer during your opponents turn.
One really strong card is Doomed Necromancer. Discard Doomed Necromancer to Chainer, then cast it for 3 mana. Then because Chainer gives it haste, you can activate its ability and return something like Ancient Brass Dragon or Sheoldred, Whispering One. My Chainer deck pretty much hinges on Doomed Necromancer cheating out big things. Literally negates the downside of having to pay the mana cost
I've noticed a substantial increase in the quality of your editing and I want to commend you for it because it makes watching your videos even more enjoyable. I think I would like to see you get together with a few special guests here and there, maybe once a month, and do a commander game :-)
Chainer was the deck I built with last years deck and it has some crazy fun plays. Protip, necrotic ooze is an allstar in this deck. It has all the activated abilities of all creatures in your graveyard and can be a second copy of your commander.
I could not believe my eyes! Thank you so much! Torment is my favorite expansion and I even have a odyssey block themed black/red deck with all the legendaries.
Great list! I love Chainer (both versions)! The only addition that I would make to the list presented here is adding Cathartic Reunion and Thrill of Possibility, as the discarding downside is offset by Chainer, and the card draws are delicious.
I'm really tempted to take apart my old Rakdos, Lord of Riots i haven't played in like 2 years to build this! I really, really like the idea of recurring ramping robots like sad robot and Burnished heart for BR in the early game. Tortured Existence could be added to do an impersonation of our Commander's activated ability. Winding canyons and Veldeken Orrery giving flash to everything, making your toolbox all the harder to interact with. As someone who has played Survival decks for years and years, I can't wait to abuse Squee for card advantage all over again.
Im really surprised on the quality of this... deck guide? This has been produced so greatly. I wish to see more videos like this, specially in white commanders since white is such a difficult color to build on and keep up the power level.
As someone whos not really into rakdos as a color combo in commander i was surprised by how much ive loved Chainer since i built him, way more flexible than i would have thought
Have you ever stubbed your toe and thought it must be ghosts? When was the last time you were standing in an ATM vestibule and were attacked by a living puppet holding a tiny knife? Have you ever been walking down the street and fallen down a manhole only to be trapped for an eternity in a never-ending black hole of sorrow and agony?
My good friend plays a Chainer, Nighmare Adept deck and while not exactly the same looks pretty similar to this package. Definitely a strong deck. Lost to it twice last night.
Professor, I want you to know I downloaded a copy of Extreme Thickness on my computer for archival purposes before you deleted it. A masterpiece like that must be preserved.
Have to hand it to you, Prof, the dark outfit and the beard are a very nice look for you. Very stylish. Also pretty sweet deck, might have to try it out myself sometime!
Another nice synergy card for Chainer is Blacklance Paragon (or Dire Fleet Poisoner). You can discard them for reanimation and because they have flash and deathtouch, you can always block and kill an attacking creature as long as you have a card in hand and 2 mana open for Chainer's ability, strongly discouraging players from attacking you. Flash in general is a pretty strong mechanic for Chainer, so Vedalken Orrery can also be a strong option. Having a toolbox of creatures in the yard that allows you to react to any circumstance at instant speed is great. Fulminator Mage is also nasty. Oversold Cemetery turns creatures in your yard into Squee, basically drawing you a card every turn for just 2 mana.
I play Chainer and one of my favourite plays is to use Buried Alive to put into the yard Keldon Firebombers and It That Betrays, reanimating both with Victimize and look at the horror and despair in my opponents faces as we all sacrifice all but 3 of our lands, and moments later, all their sacrificed lands come into play under my control.
My version of chainer is a self discard deck build around cards like bone miser and ghirapur orrery, it's fun to have a commander that makes the grave a toolbox while you have the rest going on
My friends and I did a c19 league with the precons, while changing cards over time following our system. I opted to turn the anje deck into a chainer reanimator deck. While I did fairly bad early on, by the end the deck was really powerful
I was hyped for Chainer since he was spoiled. (only reason why i bought the pre-con. he came with) I'm so glad Prof. finally did a video on him. I love many of the suggestions made. Gotta say where's the dredge 😂 From my experience the deck runs really well with it and they usually act like extra Squee's. Just some more suggestions i like Prof's take as is.
the beyond belief (which was called the x-factor in my country) was probably one of the best skits ever on this channel. loved it and the pull from outside of magic meme and pop culture
I built a Chainer deck a while back that I'm quite happy with. One of my favourite ways to win with it is to infinitely cast Chainer from grave using his own ability. You activate Chainer's ability, sacrifice him, preferably to something that generates mana, then replay him and do it again. It gives me the chance to use some cards that don't see play too often like Skyfire Pheonix. It's a phoenix that reanimates itself whenever you cast your commander. Each time I cast Chainer from grave, the phoenix comes back too, ready to be sacrificed again.
Really great deck tech! I've always loved Chainer's ability End of the video was the best part :P I've been shuffling around some ideas for Marisi, Breaker of the Coil I'm aiming for a hatebear focused build but having trouble working out the rest of the deck I'd be very interested to see what you could brew up for this sort of spicy build
I'm so glad you're doing Pauper guides! This way I'm actually able to build one of your decks without the financial power of a real professor.😅 But I still like watching your commander videos, one must be allowed to dream these days...
One card I would like to recommend as well if possible is Rakdos, the Showstopper. While it's not as consistent as Massacre Girl, it is a strong and hilarious commander card that can clean house on big boards. Having both the demon and the assassin in your deck for 2 board wipes on bodies is good as well.
Chainer is by far one of my favorite decks :D My list is pretty similar to this one, but I also play things like: Creature Jaya, Faithless Looting and Tormenting Voice effects and its really fun to play!
great deck tech, great underrated commander. I hope the prof does some budget techs though, a lot of the cards in this build are over 20 snoots and not in my collection
Rise of the Dark Realms is an even nastier win con with Chainer since you don't have to wait til next turn to use your newly minted army. Chainer has been the Rakdos deck I've always wanted in EDH.

VERY GOOD LOOKING PROF, NAILED IT. Cheers from Argentina
Where is the deck list?
Professor Don't be Gruul!, any chance of doing the King of haymakers, Xenagos God of revels deck tech? Etali hasted for 12 damage with that trigger on the stack before damage or blockers chosen *Chef Kiss
I like the Professor much better with short hair. I’m not a fan of this slicked back, black clothes look. He looks like my cocaine uncle.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT!
The prof channeling his inner Jonathan Frakes is the best opening I’ve seen to a video as of yet!
I can’t believe he opened with a meme. I love it.
It's not a meme, it's Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, with your host, Jonathan Frakes.
Lmao, "a meme"
If you can't express something recognizable, just call it meme
@@GraemeGunn You expect these people to know anything outside of Reddit? Surely you jest.
Huh
That monologue was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Prof in actually good looking clothes looks terribly well as a villain.
building this dude rn because I needed a budget deck, thanks professor!

I've had a Chainer deck for like six months, and I've never realized he gives himself haste when cast from the zone. Duh!
Haste on everything except the "fair" way :)
I've had it built since he came out. One of my favorite decks even
lol same

All love prof, great video
Thank you Prof. Chainer is one of my long time favorite characters in the lore, actually just finished Chainer's Torment novel and this is exactly what I needed. Thank you again, Commander!
The First is wise.
Oh, my nostalgia! I miss Beyond Belief. Also, good to know what I can do with Chainer. Poor guy has been sitting in a binder.
I threw him in my higher power Golos deck and it’s a great inclusion for late game recursion if the game stalls.
Prof, could you make a guide to ramp and fixing in the commander format, with options for budget? I feel like lots of people could use that.
Definitely.
I can help you with ramp, fixing...to a lesser extent. It'll be green-focused though.
Some of these suggestions are pricey, but pick and choose to your own means.
Generally artifacts are the best options.
All the Signets, all the talismans, Mox Diamond, Chrome Mox, Thran Dynamo, Worn Powerstone, Sol Ring, Coldsteel Heart, Darksteel Ingot, Fellwar Stone, Mindstone, Star Compass, Thought Vessel, Coalition Relic, Commander's Sphere, Palladium Myr, Alloy Myr, Extraplanar Lense, Hedron Archive, Ur-Golem's Eye, Sisay's Ring, Gauntlet of Power, Gilded Lotus, Caged Sun, Dreamstone Hedron. White just has some catch up land draws when behind on lands:
- Land Tax
- Weathered Wayfarer
- Knight of the White Orchid
- Kor Cartographer (no land restriction)
- Gold Myr
- Marble Diamond
Blue really on has some rituals for temporary mana bumps, but other than that you have:
- Silver Myr
- Sky Diamond
Black doesn't ramp either but has swamps matter cards that produce a lot of mana (All which work well with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth):
- Cabal Coffers
- Crypt Ghast
- Nirkana Revenant
- Leaden Myr
- Charcoal Diamond
Red has lots of rituals, but those aren't really ramp. It has some that can have narrow uses and some that are universal effects:
- Braid of Fire (Only can be used at instant speed during upkeep)
- Gauntlet of Might (doubles all mountains)
- Mana Flare (doubles everyone's mana)
- Iron Myr
Tried to keep it under two mana per mana return, unless you get a rainbow mana per three. GLHF

A beautiful tribute to the old James Brolin/Jonathon Frakes show. I love it!
Just one consideration that I would like to point out. Vedalken Orrery.
Why, you might ask. So that you can bring back creatures from your graveyard with Chainer during your opponents turn.
I’d love to see this deck in action with that set up
‘Does playing Rakdos give you pleasure?’

Prof I love this. I used to watch Beyond Belief nonstop.
But also, love the new look. Like a nerdy Sheriff Hopper from Stranger Things.
I will try this deck!! I have almost all the cards, a few are in other decks, but I'll manage!

I was thinking about building a deck with Chainer, and I'm happy to see a deck tech on it!!
That intro reminds me of Jonathan Frakes on that true-or-false show
DeSaxofoonVanPeter I believe you are correct ;)

it's called Beyond Belief, which is a phrase the professor even mentions in the intro :D

Wow I am currently building a chainer deck lol. Thanks for the nightmarish suggestions Prof 🙏
I built a Chainer deck a while back that I'm quite happy with. One of my favourite ways to win with it is to infinitely cast Chainer from grave using his own ability.
