Beautiful job. It was interesting to see the resin found its way into all the nooks and crannies of the burl without you having to manipulate the mold. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching Dick. When I prep burls I look for places that may cause trouble and try to prevent it. Not always possible with hidden voids though. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it!
Boy, I'm glad my "green with gold flakes" vote didn't make it. That is beautiful. Blue was the right answer.
Also, love the shape. Simple but classy.
I am so stealing this idea. I have absolutely no creativity of my own 🫤.
Finally, I do prefer the dub over as opposed to the trying to talk over the lathe technique.
Keep em coming!
Thanks
Cliff in Minnesota
The people were correct with blue I agree. I still catch myself editing places where I was talking with the lathe going even after 100+ videos. You would think that I’d learn. I appreciate you watching!
I've only turned 1 stabilized burl and you ain't kidding... that thing was like turning a rock. It laughed at my gouge and made me pull out my carbide tools. I remember feeling like I was getting sand blasted by the chips coming off the burl.
It is unbelievable huh? I took over 3 hours to hollow this which is 2-1/2 hours too long. Worth stabilizing though! Thanks for watching

Truly inspirational. Thanks for sharing and letting me stop by again 🌞
Thank you Ray, always glad you stop!
Those colors work perfect with the cherry
Thank you Michael, the people were right!
Beautiful! The burl is stunning and the resin swirls are perfect!
Missing your videos…so I’m going to start at the beginning and watch them all again! Hope you are doing well… ❤
Thank you Sandra! I am doing fine, just extremely busy. Thank you for asking!
Lewis, very nice I love the colors. I’m glad you or the vessel were not hurt. It turned out beautiful.
Thanks Kevin, other than the short lived action of it leaving all was good! I appreciate you watching
That is astonishing Lewis. I love it.
I still jumped when it came off the lathe even though I knew it was going to happen. LOL.
Take care Lewis.
Cheers, Huw
It’s like a horror movie for woodturners Huw, I get it buddy! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely beautiful ! Nice repair. You are true craftsman.
Thank you Ric. I was very happy it was a minor issue! I appreciate you watching
sure is beautiful. you were fortunate to recover the vase.
Thanks Paul, yes it could have been a write off for sure. Thanks for watching!
...an "OUTSTANDING" piece of art from concept to creation. Beautiful burl and resin colours. I work with driftwood sculptures and would like to see a creative piece using the two elements. Abalone/Paua shell and driftwood + resin. ✌️👍
Hey Ian! I’m not familiar with Abalone/Paua shell. Something I will research. I appreciate you watching!
Awesome finish. Great job trouble shooting. Thanks again for great video.
Thank you Jim, if I had not recorded it I may have never known! Thanks for watching!
Great work 🍺🍺👍
Lewis beautiful hollow form and the colours are amassing well done.
Thanks Alan, I appreciate it!
absolutely amazing and stunningly beautiful
Thank you Kobie!
A Beautiful creation 👍👍👍.Thank you for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
Thank you, be safe as well!
Spectacular hollow form, Lewis. A real shame that it came out of your chuck but you certainly did a good job of rescuing it. Breathtakingly beautiful piece, my friend. 👍👍👍😃😃😃
Thanks Gord! That was so strange but it all worked out! I appreciate you watching buddy!
As always, you have produced a beautiful, artistic piece of turning Lewis. I watched the first part on the preparation of the burl & was amazed at the process but it was totally worth it. I read a lot of the comments on colour that you asked for but decided that all bases had been covered by other people so held back on that one. It was not a problem because it came out in my my colour of choice. Love the work you put into your commentary & love the finish you achieved too. Cheers, Don from South Aust.
Hey Don! Glad your favourites got chosen. I appreciate you watching sir!
Lewis what a Stunning Vase 👏👏👍👍
Thanks so much Douglas!

No surprise. Beautiful… again! I really like that you show when things don’t go according to plan. Thank you for another great video!
Thanks Sandra, I show all the “unplanned” adds suspense! Thanks for watching!
Nice work. Love seeing these turns
Thanks Chris!
Outstanding, Lewis! That resin really popped and what an incredible combination. I'm so glad you got such accents. I did not realize that pouring it in that matter would create streaks. I thought it might just become more homogeneous. I think we can all feel a little bit of the pain when that came off on your. Good job recovering and you could almost see the
hesitancy reshaping that dove tail after remounting it.
I'm just about done cleaning out my Maple burl and plan to do it with copper. Not sure when I'll be done because I works so slow and I've got a lot of other things on the burner right now. Thinking of this video will keep me motivated to get it in the pressure pot sooner than later.
Thanks Jay! Yeah I was apprehensive because it didn’t make sense that it came off in the first place. All ok though. I’m anxious to see your when it is finished! Thanks for watching
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman I'll remember to mention it when it's done. Just posted a pair of platters to IG that have a cool story, which I'm pleased with. Not trying to self promote, just share with those whose opinions I value.
I’ll be sure to check it tonight! Thanks

A beautiful vase Lewis. I didn't think it would turn out so good when you were mixing the colours but you are a master at creating something to enhance the beauty of nature.
Thanks so much Colin, you are too kind!
very nice Lewis.
Thank you Michael!
Oh Lewis that is just lovely!!! I do believe this rivals the goblet you turned last week. Cherry is such beautiful wood, the blue resin just pops!
Thank you Jane! Blue was a good call I think!
This is an absolutely gorgeous vase. Love the blues! Great work! Thank you for sharing your work. 😎🙃❤️
Thank you Dotty! This will be up for a charity auction. In October. Keep watching for details! I appreciate you watching!
That combination of colors is so beautiful and the burl is well.. burl so, it’s always going to be gorgeous, when the artist knows how to showcase its beauty as you have.😊I love large pieces like this. Can’t wait for the next red combination. My hubby and I just did the tops of our nightstands in epoxy. The main colors were rose gold (which was a light copper) a reddish copper, dark bronze with splashes of blood red and greenish gold alcohol inks. We also added reddish gold holographic maple leaves🍁to a sub layer so, you can catch a glimpse of those here and there. We did 4 layers and it gave it such a wonderful sense of depth. We both love autumn colors and we were really happy with the results. You do amazing work, thanks for sharing it.
Thank you! The night stands sound awesome. Please email pictures! Klondikecraftsman@hotmail.com
This is beautiful, but I really wish you would've used a shade that was more turquoise than blue. Or even a darker purple. I think it would've gone with the wood better. It's still beautiful, though.
Thanks, I did a survey in the video where I prepared the burl and this was the popular choice. I appreciate you watching!
she a "beaut" Clark. 👍👍
Thank you!
Another beautiful piece. Thanks so much for sharing your process. I learn a lot every time I watch one of your videos.
Thank you Joseph! I’m glad these help! I appreciate you watching
Very nice work
Thank you Todd!
Thank you John!
I was surprised the vessel was not damaged beyond use.
Very fortunate Larry! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful. The blue and gray resin complemented the burl nicely.
Thank you George, I appreciate it!
Kudos on the turning - and recovery. The choice of the resin colors is masterful as there is a definite perception of depth in the larger resin areas. Well done, sir.
Thanks so much John, I appreciate it!
awesome dude
Thanks JP!
I'm afraid the red copper will blend in to much the blue highlights makes it to me pleasing to look at beautiful piece
Sometimes it is best to contrast for sure. Thanks for watching!
That is a beautiful vase. Thanks for the stabilizing lesson.

Thanks Brent!
Fantastic looking vase Lewis very well turned and finished just fabulous well done mate 👍
Thanks so much Paul!
Fabulous vase Lewis, the blue with silver gives a stunning effect.
Thanks Ian!
Beautiful piece of work! I’ve watched a number of your videos and your inspiring me to get back into wood turning having not done any for 45 years. I’m just looking at lathes (probably a midi lathe) but unsure on makes, as well as what tools I’m going to need to get up and running.
Hey! I really appreciate that! I cannot recommend a lathe other than buy the biggest and best you can afford because you will likely want to upgrade if you dont. If you like traditional tools, a 1/2' bowl gouge, 1/2" spindle gouge, a parting tool, a good thick scraper and a pointed tool will do mostly everything. If you like carbides I highly recommend Easywood tools and I dont get paid to say that. Love to see what you get and what you make when you get going. klondikecraftsman@hotmail.com . Thanks for watching!
Amazing work turned out beautiful love the colors in it
Thank you Jim!
That is absolutely stunning love the resin colours
Thank you Jennifer!
Love the resin colors, you do beautiful work.
Thanks so much Denise, I appreciate it
Absolutely beautiful Lewis! Excellent colour choice!
Thank you Heather! I appreciate it!
Absolutely beautiful, Lewis! Love the resin colors. They are a great compliment to the burl. Thanks!
Thanks so much Greg!
Lewis, this is what got me to subscribe to your channel way back in the beginning. Your hybrid work is absolutely amazing! Once I acquire the rest of the equipment I need to begin making resin combos. I hope to be able to make them as beautiful as you. Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate that, thanks. Can’t wait to see yours when you are geared up!
Шикарная работа, браво.
Thank you!
Lewis that combo of blues and silvers looks amazing, and a really enjoyable shape! I love it. So... although my goto colours are blues, I'm very much looking forward to the red one. Did you have enough left over resin to do a small pour for one of your little projects? Cheers, Rick
Thanks Rick!
I did make enough for another project yes. Keep an eye open! Thanks for watching
OMG! Your heart must have sank when it flew off the lathe!! I had never heard that cactus juice resin doesn’t bond well with turning resin… I stabilize pinecones and cast them and at times have issues with voids. I wonder if that is the issue. Is it just personal experience that has you say that? Or have you heard it from Curtis or elsewhere? Also, I’ve never trusted a mortise enough for hollowing. I haven’t finished the video as I am writing this, but I trust it works out well for you and it saves you the step of having to turn off a tenon at the end…. Thanks for your videos, they are great!
Thank you Amy, I know from experience! I’ve not had any issues with mortises hollowing but I do prefer a tenon. I appreciate you watching!
man she’s a beaut, your audience picked a great color combo. is that smoke coming off the forstner bit when you’re hollowing or just wood dust? i’ve seen that before in other videos and couldn’t tell if it was actually smoke or not. do the bits get hot enough to make smoke or is it just super fine wood particles im seeing??
I think it is the cactus juice heating up. The bit is hot but not burning. Stabilized wood is very powdery so it is hard to say. WhT I do know it the burl was stabilized completely through. Thanks for watching Dan
This is Stunning! I really want to try casting a resin/wood block myself but I don’t know how much resin I would need to buy. How much resin do you think you used in this piece and what type of resin is suitable for hollow forms? Thanks, Cheryl 🥰
Thank you Cheryl! I use either the deep pour from Red Creek Wood Designs or Alumilite Clear slow. I mixed about 2200 grams for this one but I wanted some for another pour. The key is to have a container ready for extra, always shoot for extra over having to match colours from being short. If you start with more regular shapes it helps you to get a feel for the irregular. I appreciate you watching!
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman brilliant thank you so much for the advice and for replying!
Beautiful work! May I ask how long you keep your piece under pressure in the pot?
Thank you. The time in the pressure pot is determined by the cure time of the resin. I have some that takes 6 hours and some that takes 36 hours. Thanks for watching!
Have you ever considered repair patching with real highly coloured and figured wood instead of epoxy bondo.
I don’t think filling the natural voids in burl is possible that way. It is irregular on a multi-axis basis. Check out the video where I roughed this in, the link is in the description, you will see what I mean. Now if it were something like a hole in the bottom that I could fit wood into I would be game. Thanks for watching!
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman Installing wood inserts in burrs has to be done when very close to the finished size by making a repeatable shaped straight edge hole the male plug sticks out on both sides of the square shouldered hole. It works on pool cues and the inlays are installed this way except they have a flat bottom. If you have a 3 axis milling machine it is easy to do, albeit time consuming, hence the high price of heavily inlaid pool cues. The only easy way to do it is with round drilled holes which would work for eye pupils.
