    Egyptian born and bred nerd here.
    Watching this episode gave me feelings I didn't know I was missing out on.
    Hearing Egyptian songs, whether the modern or ancient, and seeing all the ancient Egyptian history and mythology surrounding Steven/Marc are all just unexplainable. Everyone, from all walks of life, deserve to feel that.
    Even the chants they went with when Khonsu revealed himself are so authentically ancient Egyptian, as reflected by Coptic Orthodox churches that have taken on some of ancient Egypt's traditions, songs and hymns.
    Thank you Nazih and Diab for this.

    I love that he doesn't consider that the sleepwalking version of him doesn't just jump from the bed, over the sand and then out the window instead of opening the door
    Because that's rational, no one would expect your second personality that you might not even know having, to jump out the fucking window instead of leaving through the door

    • @kptmaci4979
      @kptmaci4979 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I also wonder whats even the point? If he knows he has second personality and is not just sleep walking, the other personality would easily do what he does to get out of the bed and put himself back to sleep...? I thought that Stephen thinks he sleepwalks, thats it. Even then though that kind of routine that he has of setting everything up could be possibly replicated by him during sleepwalking, he doesnt have to do much thinking during it and it is routine, almost muscle memory at this point. Its probably useless in each case. Camera to record him leaving and time lock would be more suitable in his case.

      I am pretty sure he thinks he is literally sleepwalking. Marc insisting that he is real, to me implies he didn't believe up until now that there was actually a second sentient person within him. Someone capable of getting around his set up. His set up is his way of figuring out if he moved at night. It's not to stop another personality or be some type of trap/cage.

    This was a good way of showing how involuntary alter changes are. For what I know about DiD, you can really lose days even when one of you alters decides to front. Seems Steven is a fairly new-ish alter so whatever happened to Marc to make Steven take over for so long must’ve pretty large trauma (which alters are born/created which is through Massive trauma). I appreciate the fact they (the host and alters) Haven’t made an “Evil” alter yet. Again DiD is about managing trauma not causing it. Yes, some alters (known as Protecters) can be rougher on the outside ( aka in front while the host is in the mind). But, never straight-up causing problems on purpose only to protect the host and the other alters. And Marc is the host as for Steven he is the one who is the most out aka in front so he can have some social life.
    Also Marc always had DiD as a kid/teen he has 4-5 alters

So I think that Steven was 'born' during the period that Marc has been missing. A few months ago, something traumatic must have happened to Marc that caused him to retreat into a new alter and hide out until Khonshu made him go on a mission to go after that scarab.

    I think another reactor I watch said it really well when they said that your immersion as the viewer in this episode is not seeing what Marc is doing while he's fronting, and only being with Steven when he fronts again and returns confused and not really sure where he is or what's happening. It seems they took the approach in terms of the disorder by saying that Steven's trigger to switch to Marc is extreme stress, which would be a viable enough trauma to trigger a switch in someone with DID. So far they seem to have done it right. We'll see how that holds up.

  • @tiberiusgrey1529
    @tiberiusgrey1529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Theories:
    The broken glass-filled sandals is a "litmus test" for regenerative powers.
    The "judgement process" is a misdirect; Anubis is the one who oversees the judgement by weighting the person's heart against the feather of Ma'at, the goddess of order, truth and righteousness. If the person's heart is heavier than the feather then they will be sent to the underworld and/or Ammit will devour their hearts. The Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) explicitly says that each person will be judge by Ammit which is incorrect since Ammit is the executioner not the judge like the feather of Ma'at was suppose to be. They also mentioned something about "speeding up " the process since Ammit can't wait to devour souls.
    The elevator floors is a code; 3-2-5 can refer to GH-325, one of the drugs derived from the blood of a Kree corpse ( bloody hands after transitioning in the fight scene in the Alpine village with a scarab artifact now with wings open). When administered, the drug causes rapid healing by promoting advanced cellular regeneration, healing severe and fatal wounds, and in some cases can even revive the recently deceased. Khonshu is hinting of what happened in the Alpine village where an elderly woman was drained of her life force by showing another elderly woman in the elevator.
    In Egyptian mythology the scarab is a symbol of renewal and regeneration. With the aforementioned theory, the artifact maybe a device that can be utilize to gain dominance over the populace through "miracles' of healing and restoration or regrow a goldfish's non-working fin or heal a broken jaw from falling from atop of a tall structure.

      Or the chaos bit was in reference to how Marc (Steven in this case) had Dissociative Identity Disorder.
      Ethan Hawke’s character tried to judge Steven, but the scales couldn’t lean to one side or the other because Steven was but one mind inside of a shared body, and the scales couldn’t judge properly because of the alternate personalities. It seems the scales can only judge one soul/mind at a time, which would make it difficult when it tries to judge someone with multiple clashing minds.

    If anyone is wondering the creature that is continuing to haunt Steven Grant/Marc Spector is Khonshu an Egyptian moon god who saves Spector's life after he is left to die in Egypt. It's not 100% explained what he is, he's depicted as a father figure to the identities, something only the identities can see, I believe there's also a version in the comics where he's a complete figure of the Spector's imagination.

    After the first episode of Moon Knight I began thinking about all the personalities/beings in “Steven Grant”and came up with a theory. I theorize that if there was a situation where Dr. Strange needed to push Steven Grant’s astral form out of his physical body, more than one astral form would be pushed out. Or on the other side of that theory, Steven would be pushed out and Marc or Konshu would take over his physical body. Maybe like Spider-Man’s “Peter tingle” taking over in NWH. Or Konshu is just way too powerful for Dr. Strange’s spell to work on Moon Knight? What do you think?

    I think Adam misses the mark on what SHOULD be horror. Horror is a broad umbrella and if you are expecting gore, body horror or the like then you will be disappointed. YES Moon knight is known to be violent, he has shaved faces off people BUT that's not the essence of Moon Knight. I have every Moon Knight Publication and volume that has come out since I was 7 (so 1996). Moon Knight is classic horror, it's a love letter to creatures, adventure and the swashbuckling of the Universal Monster horror movies and the books they are based on. Yes there is bloody gore in Moon Knight but bloody gore isn't horror, that's an aesthetic that is also found in other genres, So I don't NEED that in this series but I like the horror we are getting. So if Adam you are looking for body horror and straight up horror and not a Love letter to the classics, you will disappoint yourself. Cause what you are expecting isn't Moon Knight.

    • @my5head
      @my5head 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Indeed, I never for a second thought we would get Charlie Huston's version of Moon Knight. Even though that's one of my favorite comic stories, it's incredibly gory. Far too much for the MCU. Just like we'll never get Uncanny X-Force with the grey suits.

    • @koreywinicky7767
      @koreywinicky7767 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@my5head And we don't need Huston/Finch's aesthetic either for it to BE Moon Knight. "Bottom" is a great story but that gore doesn't make that story, it's more so what the character is going through at that moment. "Bottom" still has a lot of classic horrorisms from earlier movies, I sorta feel the face stuff in that run is aa bit much at times, so it's not just it's "too much" for the MCU, it's also just unneeded in general.

    • @my5head
      @my5head 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@koreywinicky7767 oh yeah, the part where he keeps the face was way unnecessary and pretty stupid. Even so, I still love that story. But it's also far into Marc's story and there's no need to rush into it.

      @koreywinicky7767 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@my5head That but also later with Midnight and that whole-body horror stuff, I don't need even that, in fact, I found that part to be distracting with how much gore was there. Introduced werewolf by night moon knight trained as a boxer before he joined the army. Stephen in the comics is a playboy but now he works at a museum. Two reflections on the period could be marc and jake with Stephen. A lot of reflections from mirrors I love it. The bob dylan song was a nice touch. Y’all see the crocodiles everywhere lol ammit from Egyptian mythology. The theme of waking up is there but really Stephen has did dissociative identity disorder. He has sand around his bed. He has a goldfish that have been said to have bad memories funny enough Stephen has trouble with his memory. Notice the scale tattoo Arthur has in the Egyptian afterlife a person heart is weighed to see if they had been good or bad. That song was sampled for big pimpin lol.

    Moon Knight The GoldFish Problem (museum sense) Episode One.
    We are guessing when Steven was talking to the little girl at his museum job. She said to Steven, Did it suck for you? Getting rejected from the field of reeds? We think she is actually Khonshu, We know Steven, etc. is dead because he has to be dead in order to meet Khonshu. Also, how would she know or ever thinks in that way? When Steven said I am not dead...Am I? the way he said like he is not sure if he is alive or not?
    Please remember we are saying our opinion, not facts, this is what we are guessing what happens by watching the show. For Fans By Fans, "We Are Comics" Posted: 4/2/2022 #unitedcomicsuniverse #wearecomics #hotonenews #moonknight #disneyplus #marvelstudios

      While I would rather chew on my shoes than eat a well done steak, for a vegan who possibly has moral objections to consuming animal products, seeing a 'bloody' steak would be a hard no so well done makes sense. Not that the waiter knows he's vegan so it still doesn't excuse him, but it was probably for the best in that scenario.

    Great first episode! I honestly can't wait to see how the rest of the show will turn out and I also can't wait to see how this'll potentially tie into Midnight Sons. There's rumors going around that we might see Gael Garcia Bernal's Werewolf By Night since it's just like Hector said, Moon Knight first appeared in a Werewolf By Night comic, we also might see Blade by the end of the show which he'll likely be the "Nick Fury" of the team as in he's the one assembling the team, and there is of course, Kit Harrington's Dane Whitman from Eternals since he lives in London, the same location as Steven. Regardless, I am excited for this show exploring a different corner of the Marvel universe that has never been explored that much in the MCU and still can't wait to see how it'll potentially set up that team and there's only 1 major problem with the MCU version of this team: there's still no Ghost Rider who is a staple member of that team. There's the rumor that we might see a Ghost Rider in Multiverse of Madness and I'm just saying, since we already have two Latinos in the team (Oscar as MK, Gael as WBN), you might as well add in a 3rd Latino to the team (Robbie Reyes).
